  • Bertolotti's syndrome is a rare spinal disease and it is known to cause low back pain due to a lumbosacral transitional vertebra. There has been rare study of Bertolotti's syndrome. This study reports the effects of Korean medicine treatment on the patient who was diagnosed on Bertolotti's syndrome. The patient was treated with Korean medicine treatment including acupuncture, pharmacopuncture, herbal medicine, and Chuna manual therapy during 40 days. Numerical rating scale (NRS), Euroqol five dimension (EQ-5D) index, Oswestry disability index (ODI), lumbar range of motion were used for assessment. After treatment, low back pain NRS decreased from 3 to 2, and low limb pain NRS decreased from 5 to 2. EQ-5D index, ODI and lumbar range of motion also were improved. This study shows Korean medicine treatment can be an effective care for Bertolotti's syndrome.

  • Objective: The aim of this study was to report the effectiveness of traditional Korean medicine treatment of a gait disturbance in a patient with idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus induced by secondary Parkinsonism. Methods: The patient was treated with Korean herbal medicine (Yukmijihwang-tang-gami), acupuncture, moxibustion, and rehabilitation exercise. The gait of the patient was evaluated by the 10 m Walk Test, Timed Up and Go (TUG) test, 360° turning test, Functional Ambulatory Category (FAC), and GAITRite. Results: After 20 days of traditional Korean medicine treatment, we observed improvement in the symptoms of the gait disturbance. Conclusion: Traditional Korean medicine treatment might be effective in the treatment of gait disturbance in patients with idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus induced by secondary Parkinsonism.

  • Objectives This study is planned to classify effectiveness of Korean medicine treatment on lumbar intervertebral Disc herniation patients' fear-avoidance belief. Methods We measured 84 patients with lumbar intervertebral disc herniation in Jaseng Korean Medicine Hospital. We used numeric rating scale, oswestry disability index, fear-avoidance belief questionaire for evaluating effectiveness of oriental medicine treatment on lumbar intervertebral disc herniation. And We used Magentic Resonance Imaging(MRI) for classifying the patient who has lumbar intervertebral disc or not. Results 1. There was statistical effectiveness of korean medicine treatment on lumbar intervertebral disc herniation patients' fear-avoidance belief (p<0.01). ${\Delta}NRS$ and ${\Delta}ODI$ (r=0.587) was Most statistically correlative. ${\Delta}ODI$ and ${\Delta}FABQ$ had a little of statistically correlation (r=0.313). ${\Delta}NRS$ and ${\Delta}FABQ$ has no statistically correlation (r=0.145). Conclusions This study suggests that screening for the korean medicine treatment reduces fears and negative belief of patients with the lumbar disc herniation and prevents chronic physical symptoms that come from them so that it can be a great help to controlling patients' pain clinically.

  • Cervical dystonia (CD) is a disorder characterized by sustained or intermittent, involuntary muscle contractions which cause twisting, repetitive movements and abnormal postures. In this case report, a CD patients was treated with transfer energy capacitive and resistive (TECAR) therapy and conventional Korean medicine, which consists of acupuncture, Chuna manual medicine, pharmacopuncture and herbal medicine. For outcome measures, this study evaluated Cobb's angle, EuroQol five dimension scale (EQ-5D), numerical rating scale (NRS), neck disabillity index (NDI) and cervical range of motion. As a result, improvements were found in Cobb's angle ($18.65^{\circ}$ to $15.90^{\circ}$), EQ-5D score (0.808 to 0.862), NRS (5 to 3), NDI (16 to 8) and angle of cervical lateral bending ($15^{\circ}$ to $25^{\circ}$). In conclusion, this study shows that combined therapy of conventional Korean medicine treatment and TECAR therapy can be effective for CD patients.
