The poetic world of Han Young-Un, Rhetoric of oxymoron and Yusic唯識 of Buddhist thought

1. We use terms like paradox or oxymoron in poetics. Oxymoron is defined as ‘condensed paradox’ in『Princeton Encyclopedia of Poetry andPoetics』. One classic example is ‘O fangeuse grandeur! Sublime ignominie!’ by French poet, Baudelaire. In short, the use of oxymoron in poetics orients sameness among contradiction.2. Han Young-Un is a grea poet in Korea. He worked as a poet andpublished a collection of poetry『The silence of the lover』while Japanese imperialism governed Korea. This collection of poetry works is also loved by contemporary Koreans widely. The lover in this poem includes se eral comprehensive meanings such as real woman, motherland and Buddha of religious object. The most important rhetoric in this collectionof poetry is oxymoron.3. The background thought is Buddhism in the poetic world of Han Young-Un. It is Yusic which is the most profound philosophical thought in Buddhism. There is an intimate relation between the rhetoric of oxymoron and the Yusic. This paper’s aim is an illumination of this connection. The poems referred in this paper are「A zen-monk preaches Buddhist teachings」,「I am not sure why it’s so」, and「Falling blossoms」. Inaddition to these, I refer some of his poetic works written by Chinese character.

한용운의 시「선사의 설법」은 속박의 인과율에서 해탈의 자유를 얻을 수 있다는 시적인 신념이나 비전 같은 것을 제시하고 있다. 그가 모순형용의 수사학에 기대어 시인의 상상력을 가다듬을 수 있었던 것도 인과나 윤회의 속박에서 자유(해탈)를 얻을 수 있다는 불교의 역설적인 원천 논리에 기인한 것이다. 시편「알ㅅ수업서요」에서의 화자는 미지의 문을 두드리고 있는 경건한 구도자로서의 시인사제(poet-priest)로서의 시인 자신인 한용운이다. 본 연구에서 시편「알ㅅ수업서요」와『야스나스』의 44장을 함께 제시하면서, 서로 비교하였다. 여기에서 되풀이되는 의문문은 순환적으로 상속되는 일종의 정신 활동이다. 유식 불교에서는 이를 두고 식전변(識轉變)이라고 이름한다. 시편「알ㅅ수업서요」가 ‘모른다’로 일관한 시라면, 시편「낙화」는 ‘안다’가 되풀이되고 있는 선적인 취향의 시다. 이 시는 깨달음으로 향하는 죽음의 이미지를 소재화한 것으로서, 낭만주의의 핵심 개념인 것으로 ‘파괴와 생성을 거듭하는’ 원리로 수용되고 있다. 이때 낭만적인 것의 발상이 전환되고, 또 그 질감이 강화되고 있는 것은 물론이다. 제5장은 한용운의 한시에 나타난 우주적인 오도(悟道)의 체험을 소주제로 삼았다. 인용된 한시 세 편 역시 모순형용의 수사학이 잘 드러나 있다.
