인터넷을 통한 디지털 컨텐츠의 활발한 유통은 디지털 컨텐츠를 보호함과 동시에 컨텐츠 대한 저작권정보를 표현하고 관리하는 데에 많은 관심을 갖게 하였다. 이에 디지털 컨텐츠에 대한 저작 권 정보의 효율 적인 표기 및 저장, 공유를 가능하게 하기 위해 XML(extensible Markup Language)의 한 어플리케이션인 XrML(extensible rights Markup Language)이 W3C를 중심으로 각 벤더들에 의해 제정되었다. 이 XrML 문서의 작성으로 디지털 컨텐츠에 대한 저작권 정보를 구조적인 언어로 표현할 수 있게 되었으며, XrML 문서를 효과적으로 작성하기 위해서는 XrML의 구조적 정보를 이용한 사용자가 효율적으로 편집할 수 있는 시스템이 필요하게 되었다. 이에 본 논문에서는 디지털 컨텐츠에 대한 저작권이나 사용 조건에 대해 기술 할 수 있는 XrML 문서를 사용자가 효율적으로 편집할 수 있도록 디지털 컨텐츠 저작권 관리를 위한 XrML 문서 편 집 시스템을 설계 및 구현하였다.
