The coupling between electric, magnetic, and structural order parameters results in the so-called multiferroics, which possess ferroelectricity, ferromagnetism, and/or ferroelasticity. The simultaneous ferroelectricity and ferromagnetism (magnetoelectricity) allow potential applications in information storage, spintronics, and in magnetic or electric field sensors.
