  • Various silanes, amino silane, vinyl silane, sulfur silane (TESPD), and ZS (TESPD/zinc soap complex), are added into chlorinated isobutylene-isoprene copolymer (CIIR)/soft clay/carbon black (CB) and CIIR/hard clay/CB compounds and they are investigated with respect to the vulcanization characteristics, the processability, and the mechanical properties. Comparing hard clay and soft clay filled compounds, hard clay (Suprex) filled system shows a higher die C tear than the soft clay (GK) filled one. The other properties (Mooney, extrusion torque/pressure, torque rise ($M_H-M_L$), modulus at 300%) are close to each other. Among various silanes, the ZS treated hard clay (Suprex) compound shows the highest mechanical property following hard clay(S)/vinyl silane(V) and soft clay(GK)/vinyl silane(V) compounds. The TESPD and the ZS effectively helps a formation of a strong 3-dimensional network structure between silica and CIIR via coupling reaction due to bifunctional nature of TESPD. In addition to that, the ZS added compounds show both a better processability and mechanical properties compared to the S2 ones at low concentration due to improved compatibility between zinc soap and CIIR matrix. Only the ZS added compound shows both improved processabilities (Mooney, Extrusion torque-& pressure) and improved mechanical properties (degree of crosslinking, elongation modulus, tear, and fatigue to failure counts) on both CIIR/hard clay/CB and CIIR/soft clay/CB compounds.

  • The use of natural organic dyes obtained from renewable resources such as plants and trees has the potential for not only preserving petrochemicals but also all-endangered environment for coming next generations. In spite of inferior fastness, natural dyes can be employed in the colouration of natural as well as synthetic fibers. Recently, the potentiality of using natural dyes in colouration with additional UV-protection and antimicrobial properties has been reported. This study is aimed to investigate the effect of Zinc compounds compared to another metallic compounds as mordants on the dyeing properties of natural dye extracted from mulberry leaves and coffee. In this study, the results showed Zinc compounds was expose that is more similar than other mordants in washing fastness through a repeated experiment. Also, Zinc is the environmental impact is less material compared with other mordants, essential edibility minerals ingredient that is necessary in human body.

  • The electrochemical behavior and corrosion inhibition of zinc in 0.5 M $H_2SO_4$ in the absence and presence of some chromones has been investigated using weight loss, potentiodynamic polarization, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and electrochemical frequency modulation (EFM) techniques. The presence of these investigated compounds in the corrosive solutions decrease the weight loss, the corrosion current density, and double layer capacitance but increases the charge transfer resistance. Polarization studies were carried out at room temperature, and showed that all the studied compounds act as mixed type inhibitors with a slight predominance of cathodic character. The effect of temperature on corrosion inhibition has been studied and the thermodynamic activation and adsorption parameters were determined and discussed. The adsorption of the investigated compounds on zinc was found to obey Langmuir adsorption isotherm.

  • (Pyridine)(tetrahydroborato)zinc complex, $[Zn(BH_4)_2(py)]$, as a stable white solid, was prepared quantitatively by complexation of an equimolar amount of zinc tetrahydroborate and pyridine at room temperature. This reagent can easily reduce variety of carbonyl compounds such as aldehydes, ketones, acyloins, α-diketones and a, β-unsaturated carbonyl compounds to their corresponding alcohols in good to excellent yields. Reduction reactions were performed in ether or THF at room temperature or under reflux conditions. In addition, the chemoselective reduction of aldehydes over ketones was accomplished successfully with this reducing agent.

  • The pancreas is an important organ in the maintenance of zine homeostasis. The pancreatic tissue used in this study was obtained from rats fed varying levels of dietary Ca nd phytate followed by intraperitoneal {TEX}${65}^Zn${/TEX} injection. THe objective of this study was to determine the molecular size and distribution of compounds that may represent zinc-binding complexes in pancreatic tissue homogenates. The supernatant of the homogenized pancreatic tissue was separated using a Sephadex G-75 column with Tris buffer at pH 8.1. All subfractions were assayed for zinc, protein and {TEX}${65}^Zn${/TEX} activity. The elution of subfractions from pancreatic tissue homogenates showed a prominent peak corresponding to the high molecular weight protein standard (>66kd). A sall molecular weigth protein (<6.5kd), that was absorbed at 280nm, was also present: prominently in low Ca group, however not much as in high Ca group. These small compounds may combine weakly with zinc in pancreatic tissue an serve as zinc-binding ligands in pancreatic/biliary fluid. In the duodenum, these ligands dissociate zinc into an ionic form which becomes vulnerable to phytate complexation.

  • The intercalated compounds of alkylsulfonate into hydrated and dehydrated zinc were synthesized. From the XRD, FT-IR, TGA, elemental analysis data, and the molecular size, the orientation of the intercalated alkylsulfonates was determined. For the hydrated compounds, alkylsulfonates were intercalated into hexaqua zinc layer with the bilayer structure of $32.9^{\circ}$ angle of inclination. For the dehydrated compounds, alkylsulfonates were directly bonded to zinc ion with the bilayer structure of $51.4^{\circ}$ angle of inclination.

  • One hundred thirty-four putative Bacillus isolates were recovered from soybean rhizosphere soils of Nimar region to select effective zinc solubilizers for increased assimilation of zinc (Zn) in soybean seeds. These isolates were screened in vitro for zinc-solubilization ability on Tris-minimal agar medium supplemented separately with 0.1% zinc in the form of zinc oxide, zinc phosphate, and zinc carbonate. Of all, 9 isolates and a reference Bacillus cereus ATCC 13061 were characterized and identified as Bacillus species based on Gram-positive reaction, endospore-forming cells, and the presence of iso-$C_{15:0}$ and anteiso-$C_{15:0}$ as predominant fatty acids. On plate assay, two isolates KHBD-6 and KHBAR-1 showed a greater diameter of solubilization halo and colony diameter on all the three zinc compounds. The isolates KHBD-6, KHBAR-1, BDSD-2-2C, and KHTH-4-1 and the reference strain ATCC 13061 had higher soluble zinc concentration in liquid medium supplemented with zinc phosphate and zinc carbonate compounds as compared with the other isolates and uninoculated control. Evaluation under microcosm conditions showed that inoculation of isolates KHBD-6 (57.34 ${\mu}g/g$), KHBAR-1 (55.67 ${\mu}g/g$), and strain ATCC 13061 (53.10 ${\mu}g/g$) significantly increased the Zn concentration in soybean seeds as compared with the other isolates and uninoculated control (47.14 ${\mu}g/g$). This study suggests the occurrence of zinc-solubilizing Bacillus in soils of Nimar region and isolates KHBD-6 and KHBAR-1 were found to be promising zinc solubilizers for increased assimilation of Zn in soybean seeds.

  • Two inorganic (zinc sulfate and zinc oxide) and three organic (zinc acetate, zinc-methionine, and zinc-lysine) zinc sources were evaluated for their effects on the performance and carcass characteristics of broiler chicks. The birds were randomly assigned to one control (non-supplemented) and 15 treatment (supplemented) groups consisting of four replicates of 10 chicks each in a $5{\times}3$ factorial arrangement of treatments (five zinc sources and three supplemental zinc levels). Birds were kept in floor pens in a temperature-controlled room from 1 to 42 d of age and fed a non-supplemented basal diet (control) or the basal diet supplemented with 40, 80 or 120 mg/kg of Zn as mentioned sources. Dietary zinc source had considerable effect on feed intake in all experimental periods. Increasing Zn level from 80 to 120 mg/kg decreased the average feed intake in the growth stage (p<0.01) and also in the entire experimental period (p<0.001). Similarly, the average daily gain during the entire trial period was affected by the type of Zn source (p<0.001) and supplemental level (p<0.01). One degree of freedom contrast comparisons showed that the inclusion of organic zinc sources into the diets caused significant increases in feed intake and body gain when compared with inorganic counterparts. Except in wk 1, dietary supplementation with organic sources improved (p<0.05) feed conversion ratio; FCR values were not affected by dietary Zn source or supplementation level. Breast meat yield increased with supplemental levels of organic Zn sources; however, other carcass parameters were not affected by dietary Zn source. On the other hand, organic versus inorganic zinc supplementation caused a significant increase in liver, breast and carcass weight percentages. The present findings suggest that supplemental levels of organic Zn compounds had beneficial effects on broiler performance, and Zn requirements can be reduced using these feed supplements in poultry rations.
