  • This paper deals with accuracy of accumulated fatigue damage estimation using stochastic fatigue analysis method based on Rayleigh PDF. From full scale measurement data on an 8100TEU container vessel, zero-order spectral moments for wave- and vibration-induced energy spectral densities are determined on the probability level of 99%. 80 simulation cases in total are prepared according to the variation of ratio of zero-order spectral moments and center frequency of vibration ESD. By using inverse Fourier transformation and rainflow cycle counting for the combined ESD of wave and vibration, exact fatigue damages are derived. Fatigue damages in frequency domain based on Rayleigh PDF show large conservativeness compared to exact fatigue damages in times domain. The main cause of the excessive conservativeness is analyzed by two aspects: ratio of zero crossing and peak frequencies and ratio of initial zero order spectral moments and zero order spectral moments from rainflow stress range distributions. Finally, a guideline of applicability of Rayleigh PDF is proposed for wide band processes.

  • In conventional Zero-Voltage-Transition(ZVT) PWM converters, zero-voltage turn-on and turn-off for main switch without increasing voltage/current stresses is achieved at a fixed frequency. The switching loss, stress, and noise, however, can't be minimized because they adopt auxiliary switches turned off under hard-switching condition. In this paper, new ZVS-PWM converters of which both active and passive switches are always operating with soft-switching condition are proposed. Therefore, the proposed ZVS-PWM converters are most suitable for avionics applications requiring high-power density. Breadboarded ZVS-PWM boost converters using power MOSFET are constructed to verify theoretical analysis.

  • In designing $SF_6$ puffer circuit breakers, analyzing are behavior during current zero region and thermal recovery characteristics after current interrupt ion is very important. In this paper, a mathematical are model based on the integral method has been based to analyze them. The pressure rise in the puffer chamber and the distributions of pressure, density, velocity and enthalpy inside nozzle are calculated and analyzed at current zero region. The influence of fault current magnitude and change of di/dt at current zero on the interruption capability of puffer circuit breakers is investigated. Finally, the calculated results are compared with the available results from experiment.

  • A new high efficiency zero-voltage and zero-current switching (ZVZCS) bidirectional DC/DC converter is proposed in this paper. The proposed converter consists of two symmetric half-bridge cells as the input and output stages. MOSFETs of input stage are turned-on in ZVS condition, and those of output stage are turned-off in ZCS condition. In addition, MOSFETs of input and output stages have low voltage stresses clamped to input and output voltage, respectively. Therefore, the proposed converter has high efficiency and high power density. The operational principles are analyzed and the advantages of the proposed converter are described. The 300W prototype of the proposed converter is implemented for 42V hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) application in order to verify the operational principles and advantages.

  • In this study, a new algorithm for canceling a MRI artifact due to the translational motion In the image plane is described. Unlike the conventional iterative phase retrieval algorithm, in which there is no guarantee for the convergence, a direct method for estimating the motion is presented. In previous approaches, the motions in the x(read out) direction and the y(phase encoding) direction were estimated simultaneously. However, the feature of x and y directional motions are different from each other. By analyzing their features, each x and y directional motion is canceled by the different algorithms in two steps. First, it is noticed that the x directional motion corresponds to a shift of the x directional spectrum of the MRI signal, and the non-zero area of the spectrum just corresponds to the projected area of the density function on the x axis. So the motion is estimated by tracing the edges between non-zero area and zero area of the spectrum, and the x directional motion is canceled by shifting the spectrum in an reverse direction. Next, the y directional motion is canceled by using a new constraint condition, with which the motion component and the true image component can be separated. This algorithm is shown to be effective by using a phantom image with simulated motion.

  • During seek operation in disk drives, the recording head is moved toward desired track by seek servo controller and then is settled onto the center of the desired track by settling servo controller. If the head speed at the start of settling servo control is not slow, it may produce overshoot relative to the center of track and thus extend the settling time. The degradation in settling performance will be more severe as the track width becomes smaller for higher density of data storage. We design a new settling servo controller for minimizing settling time based on the pole-zero cancellation. In order to cancel slow poles in settling response, we apply discrete pulse signals to the system in addition to the state feedback control. For exact pole-zero cancellation, we consider the dynamics of power amplifier used for actuator current regulation and the effects of delay in control action. In addition, we present system parameter identification algerian for the robustness of our controller to system parameter variation. In order to demonstrate the practical use of our controller, we present experimental results obtained by using a commercially available disk drive.

  • This study evaluated the effect of zero measurements of rainfall on the spatial correlation structure using the mixed distribution function. Three cases of data structures were considered at two gauge stations: only the positive measurements at both stations, the positive measurements at either one or both stations, and all the measurements including zero measurement at both stations. Also the rainfall data were categorized into the frontal, typhoon, and convective for their comparison. Hourly rainfall data from 12 rain gauge stations within the Geum river basin were analyzed to find that the rain gauge density of WMO to be good for the frontal and typhoon, but not enough for the convective storms.

  • We consider a Bayesian test of independence in a two-way contingency table that has some zero cells. To do this, we take a three-stage hierarchical Bayesian model under each hypothesis. For prior, we use Dirichlet density to model the marginal cell and each cell probabilities. Our method does not require complicated computation such as a Metropolis-Hastings algorithm to draw samples from each posterior density of parameters. We draw samples using a Gibbs sampler with a grid method. For complicated posterior formulas, we apply the Monte-Carlo integration and the sampling important resampling algorithm. We compare the values of the Bayes factor with the results of a chi-square test and the likelihood ratio test.

  • We investigate the zeros of Epstein zeta functions associated with positive definite quadratic forms with rational coefficients in the vertical strip ${\sigma}_1$ < ${\Re}s$ < ${\sigma}_2$, where 1/2 < ${\sigma}_1$ < ${\sigma}_2$ < 1. When the class number h of the quadratic form is bigger than 1, Voronin gave a lower bound and Lee gave an asymptotic formula for the number of zeros. Recently Gonek and Lee improved their results by providing a new upper bound for the error term when h > 3. In this paper, we consider the cases h = 2, 3 and provide an upper bound for the error term, smaller than the one for the case h > 3.

  • This paper presents a voltage source type half-bridge series resonant high frequency (HF) inverter for induction heated fixing roller in copy machines. This high-frequency inverter works under zero current soft switching (ZCS) commutation and has wide power regulation range due to employing a pulse density modulation (PDM) scheme. Transient and steady state operating modes of the inverter are presented in this paper together with its PDM-based power regulation system. Experimental operating performances of the developed HF-ZCS inverter as well as power losses and actual efficiency are discussed and compared with computer simulation results.
