  • When you move to a new home, or when you change the wallpaper or flooring of your home, office, etc., you can enjoy the joy of opening your new home with the sick house syndrome, such as the stinging smell and stinging eyes that may appear after the interior work. It is only a moment. Volatile organic compounds from building materials, adhesives, wallpaper, and paints used in new buildings or new furniture cause residents' health and discomfort in indoor life. These volatile organic compounds include benzene, toluene, acetone, and styrene, as well as the representative formaldehyde, and these substances are slowly released over a long period of time, causing acute or chronic diseases to residents. As a method for removing organic volatile substances, physical methods using adsorption, chemical methods for converting volatile substances to other substances, or a mixture of the two are mainly used. In this paper, a sustained release chlorine dioxide gel pack obtained by a method for controlling the reaction rate of a reactant and the release of a product is mixed with a zeolite adsorbent having an optimized hole diameter to adsorb and decompose and remove formaldehyde suspended in the air. I would suggest an effective method.

  • Surface complexation models(SCMs) have been performed to predict metal ion adsorption behavior onto the mineral surface. Application of SCMs, however, requires a self-consistent approach to determine model parameter values. In this paper, in order to determine the metal ion adsorption parameters for the triple layer model(TLM) version of the SCM, we used the zeta potential data for Zeolite and Kaolinite, and the metal ion adsorption data for Pb(II) and Cd(II). Fitting parameters determined for the modeling were as follows ; total site concentration, site density, specific surface area, surface acidity constants, etc. Zeta potential as a new approach other than the acidic-alkalimetric titration method was adopted for simulation of adsorption phenomena. Some fitting parameters were determined by the trial and error method. Modeling approach was successful in quantitatively simulating adsorption behavior under various geochemical conditions.

  • Recently, CFT column has been well-studied and reported on, because a CFT column has certain superior structural properties as well as good productivity, execution efficiency, and improved rigidity over existing columns. However, CFT column still has problems clearing the capacity evaluation between its steel tube member and high-strength concrete materials. Also, research on concrete has examined numerical values for high-strength concrete filled steel square tube columns (HCFT) to explain transformation performance (M-${\phi}$) when a short-column receives equal flexure-moment from axial stress. Moment-curvature formulas are proposed for HCFT columns based on analytic assumption described in this paper. This study investigated structural properties (capacity, curvature), through a series of experiments for HCFT with key parameters, such as strength of concrete mixed design (58.8 MPa), width-thickness ratio (D/t), buckling length to sectional width ratio (Lk/D) and concrete types (Zeolite, Fly-ash, Silica-fume) under eccentric loads. A comparative analysis executed for the AISC-LRFD, AIJ and Takanori Sato, etc. Design formulas to estimate the axial load (N)-moment (M)-curvature (${\phi}$) are proposed for HCFT columns based on tests results described in this paper.

  • The dehumidifiers were prepared by the impregnation of the zeolites such as MCM 48, USY, beta on the silica ceramic paper. Their capacities for $H_2O$ absorption and regeneration of the bed were tested in a fixed bed reactor system. The $H_2O$ absorption capacities of the dehumidifiers impregnated with the zeolites were $1.5{\sim}2$ times higher than those without the zeolites. Especially, the humidifier using MCM 48 and colloidal silica showed an excellent capacity (42.1g $H_2O/g$ absorbent). It was found that the $H_2O$ absorption capacities of the dehumidifiers were improved because the amount of silica gel, the main component in absorbing $H_2O$, increased due to the large surface area and pore volume of the zeolites. In addition, $H_2O$ was easily desorbed from the dehumidifiers with zeolites at $80^{\circ}C$ of regeneration temperature and the desorption amount of $H_2O$ was the same as that absorbed. It was confirmed that the $H_2O$ absorption capacities of the dehumidifiers impregnated with zeolite were maintained without deactivation through the repeated cyclic experiments.

  • Effect of BA concentrations and culture methods on in vitro plant multiplication from shoot-tip cultures of Wasabia japonica was studied. Shoot-tips with leaf primordia and apical meristem were cultured on MS basal medium for all the experiments. Liquid medium for 2 weeks followed by semi-solid medium for 4 weeks containing 1.0 mg/L BA was the best to number of shoots (22.8) and shoot length (3.5 cm). Shoots proliferated could be divided into ca. 5 to 11 of cultures for the multiplication of plantlets. Divided plantlets showed root formation (90%) well onto MS basal medium without growth regulators like IBA and NAA. After rooting, all the plantlets transferred into the pots containing composed soil (bio-media Co., peatmoss $8{\sim}10%$, coir dust $66{\sim}70%$, zeolite $13{\sim}17%$, vermiculite $3{\sim}7%$, perlite $2{\sim}4%$) and grown well into whole plants with multiple shoots.

  • The discharge of fly ash that is produced by coal-fired electric power plants is rapidly increasing in Korea. The utilization of fly ash in the raw materials would contribute to the elimination of an environmental problem and to the development of new high-performance materials. So it is needed to study the binder obtained by chemically activation of pozzolanic materials by means of a substitute for the cement. Fly ash consists of a glass phase. As it is produced from high temperature, it is a chemically stable material. Fly ash mostly consists of $SiO_2\;and\;Al_2O_3$, and it assumes the form of an oxide in the inside of fly ash. Because this reaction has not broken out by itself, it is need to supply it with additional $OH^-$ through alkali activators. Alkali activators were used for supplying it with additional $OH^-$. This paper concentrated on the strength development according to the kind of chemical activators, the curing temperature, the heat curing time. Also, according to scanning electron microscopy and X-Ray diffraction, the main reaction product in the alkali activated fly ash mortar is Zeolite of $Na_6-(AlO_2)_6-(SiO_2)_{10}-12H_2O$ type.

  • Polyacrylate dispersion(emulsion) as adhesive material was superior in quality such as preservation characteristics and reversibility. The tapes for repairing archival documents manufactured with four different types of formulation resulted in pH 7~8.8, soluble solid 50~52%, and viscosity 1,300~2,500 cps. Sample 4 of those was most excellent. Probably, sample 4 included inorganic materials such as MgO, silica gel, and zeolite. For selecting carrier of tape, tracing papers, were applied for manufacturing tapes and tested for adhesive strength and peel strength. Adhesive strength of tracing papers, was 3.1~3.8(N/10mm), 2.2~2.8(N/10mm), and 1.7-2.3(N/10mm), respectively. Peel strength was similar in all samples. To determine characteristic of conservation to the selected carriers, stability of deterioration was examined at conditions of $105^{\circ}C$ and $80^{\circ}C$ 65% for 7 days.

  • Natural zeolites have recently been the subject of intensive research due to their versatilities in possible industrial applications. Among several different types of domestic natural zeolites, clinoptilolite, is one of the highly prospective domestic natural zeolites. However, it is always possible for heulandite, the isostructure of clinoptilolite, to coexist with clinoptilolite. Unfortunately, heulandite is thermally very unstable restricting its application to industrial process. In this paper, the effects of ion exchanges and heat-treatments on the thermal stability for domestic natural zeolite, heulandite are described. Two different ion-exchanging experiments were carried out followed by heat-treatments at different temperatures. X-ray, IR and AA spectroscopic analyses showed the enhancements in thermal stabilities of heulandite by $Na^+$ cation exchanges.
