Effects of sowing time and quantity on naked oat (Avena sativa L.) in South Korea

  • This study was conducted to evaluated the effects of different sowing time(October 22, February 20, March 3, March 13, and March 23) and sowing quantities(150kg/ha, 200kg/ha, 250kg/ha, and 300kg/ha) on growth of naked oat(Avena sativa L.) cultivar(Choyang-Gwiri) at a cultivation area in Iksan, south Korea. Heading times were delayed with later sowing times. In autumn seeding(Oct. 22) the ear was headed at April 30, in spring seeding(Feb. 20, Mar. 3, Mar. 13, and Mar. 23) heading times were respectively May 14, May 14, May 15, and May 19. Heading time of spring seeding was delayed about 3 weeks than autumn seeding. Ripening times were similar trends to the heading times. In autumn seeding ears were ripened at June 7, in spring seeding each times were respectively Jun. 15, Jun. 13, Jun. 20, and Jun. 20. Ripening time of spring seeding was delayed about 2 weeks than autumn seeding. Culm length and ear length were shortened in spring seeding, but number of plants per $m^2$ were increased. Number of grains per a ear were 106 in autumn seeding, but grains per a ear in spring seeding were respectively 88, 83, 83, and 73. Weight of 1,000 grains in spring seeding was heavier than that in autumn seeding, the weights were tend to light as later seeding times. Yield of grains was declined as later seeding times, yield of in autumn seeding was 2,900kg/ha, whereas that in spring seeding was 2,180kg/ha. The highest yield of spring seeding time was in Mar. 13, before this seeding time soil surfaces were severely dried as few rain fall, so germination was poor in those seeding times. As several seeding quantities were seeding, earing and ripening times were not different. but increasing seeding quantity, culm length was lengthened and ear length was shortened, number of plants per $m^2$ were increased and grains per a ear were reduced. Yield of grains were increased more seeding quantities, yield was highest up to 250kg/ha seeding quantity.

Effects of Seeding Date and Rate on Growth and Yield of Barley Cultivar 'Duwonchapssalbori' in Southern Region

  • In order to develop an appropriate cultural practice for a newly bred 2-rowed, waxy, naked barley cultivar 'Duwonchapssalbori' in the southern region, 2 varieties, 3 seeding dates, 4 seeding rates were designed with 2 replications. The heading and maturity dates of 'Duwonchapssalbori' were' earlier than 'Saessalbori by 2-5 and 4 days, respectively. Culm length of 'Duwonchapssalbori' was 60 to 66cm with lodging resistance. Grain yields of both varieties were 4.28-4.33 ton/ha in the plot of Oct. 20 seeding, 4.11-4.18 ton in the plot of Oct. 28 seeding, and 3.7-13.89 ton/ha in the Nov. 5 seeding. Grain yield with different seeding rates highly significantly fitted with secondary polynomial equations in the plots of Oct. 20 and Oct. 28 seedings ($R^2$=0.84-0.85), showing the greatest yield with seeding rate of 140kg per ha. However, the grain yield with various seeding rates in the plot of Nov. 5 seeding showed simple linear regression ($R^2$=0.71), showing the seeding rate over 160kg in the case of later seeding to be optimal. Number of spikes per $m^2$ significantly contributed to grain yield, and fitted to simple linear regression ($R^2$=0.881-0.891), suggesting that plenty of early stands should be established at early seedling stage for high grain yield. Young spikes of 'Duwonchapssalbori' in the plot of Oct. 20 seeding elongated with linear increments since Feb. 10 (6.7mm), and showed rapid increment since March 7 (15.1mm). However, elongation of young spikes of 'Saessalbori' began from March 15 with slow increments. From these studies, the optimum seeding date and seeding rate in 'Duwonchapssalbori' were Oct. 20-28 and 140kg per ha for high grain yield in the southern regions.

  • History , achievement and future of direct-wet-rice-seeding technique in Korea and problems encountered in on-farming research were introduced. Some farmers are very eager to lower production cost and save labor. Their effort results in several direct-wet-seeding methods and seeding machines. The design problems and improvement points related to the direct -wet-rice-seeding machines were drawn out of field test.

Effect of Seeding Time on Fatty Acid Composition, Oil Contents and Seeds Yield in Flax

  • Influences of different seeding dates on growth, seed yield, fatty acid composition and oil content were investigated in flax plants for two years. The results indicated that plant height in early seeding date was higher than that of delayed seeding dates during first season. Furthermore, seeding date also significantly affected the ripened seed rate and the rate increased with the delay in seeding date in first season. Seed yield in the first crop season was significantly higher than the second crop season. Palmitic acid showed variation in different seeding dates. Contrarily, stearic acid was stable and did not changed by different seeding dates. Linolenic acid was found in highest amount in all seeding dates consecutively in two cropping years. Highest oil content was recovered from the seeds of flax sown at 29 Apr. and May 9 in first and second cropping year respectively.

혼합파종에 따른 CSG 식생 블록 내 식물의 발아, 피복도 및 근계력 특성 (The Germination, Cover View and Root Potential Properties of Plants within CSG Planting Block by Mixture Seeding)

  • This study was performed to evaluate the planting properties and root potential of planting block with mixing seeding of herbaceous plants and cool-season grasses in CSG blocks manufactured by cemented sand and materials (CSG) in order to develop environmentally friendly CSG block applied revegetation. Five types of CSG mix designs with cement contents were determined, and the mechanical properties of CSG materials were studied experimentally. To analyze growth properties of plants within CSG block, germination ratio, visual cover, plant height and root potential were measured in four weeks and eight weeks after seeding. The germination regardless mixture seeding of plants and CSG mixproportions started within 4 ~ 7 days after seeding and the germination ratio were in the range of 60 ~ 65 %. The visual cover of kinds of plants evaluated by visual rating system were in the range of 6 ~ 8 in case of seeding the species of cool-season grasses and were in the range of 4 ~ 6 in case of seeding the species of herbaceous plants in four weeks after seeding. The root potential of CSG block with the species of cool-season grasses and herbaceous plants were in the range of $5.7{\times}10^{-3}{\sim}7.7{\times}10^{-3}$ MPa and $2.3{\times}10^{-3}{\sim}6.7{\times}10^{-3}$ MPa in eight weeks after seeding, respectively.

Comparative analysis of growth, yields and grain quality of rice among no-tillage dry-seeding, wet-hill-seeding and transplanting

  • No-tillage practices are expected to provide several benefits such as increasing soil organic matter, reducing labor time and saving energy cost compared with conventional tillage practices. This study was conducted to investigate the effects of no-tillage dry-seeding on rice growth and soil properties in comparison with other rice cultivation methods, machine transplanting and wet-hill-seeding on puddled paddy. Rice seedling establishment was slightly higher in no-tillage dry-seeding treatment ($145seedling\;m^{-2}$) than wet-hill-seeding on puddled paddy treatment ($111seedling\;m^{-2}$), but the seedling establishment in both treatments fell within the optimum range for direct seeding rice cultivation. Plant height, number of tillers and chlorophyll content (SPAD value) of rice in no-tillage dry-seeding treatment were higher than those of the other treatments. However, no significant differences in grain yield was observed among three cultivation methods, and the yield ranged 5.8 to $5.9ton\;ha^{-1}$. The heading date from seeding under no-tillage dry-seeding treatment was on average 109 days, which was similar to that under machine transplanting treatment (112 days), but 10 days later than that under wet-hill-seeding on puddled paddy treatment (99 days). Grain quality characteristics grown in no-tillage dry-seeding were similar to those grown in the other cultivation methods. These results indicate that no-tillage dry-seeding practice is comparable to conventional tillage system in terms of seedling establishment, growth, yields and grain quality.

Effect of Early Seeding on Seedling Establishment and Yield in Direct Dry Seeding Rice at Honam Plain Area of Korea

  • To examine the seedling stand and growth as affected by early seeding dates of dry direct seeded rice in the Honam plain area of Korea, Dongjinbyeo was seeded at six seeding dates from early March to late April in rice fields of silty loam soil(Jeonbuk series) at the National Honam Agricultural Experiment Station (NHAES) for two years, 1996 and 1998. Seedling stand decreased slightly. with an early seeding date, but it produced more than the optimum seedling number except for the seeding of 25 March in 1996. Days to emergence was significantly longer, as seeding date was earlier, and days to emergence by early seeding was shortened only by 8 days because the mean air temperature was lower in 1996 than average, while in 1998, the reduction effect was nine to twenty five days because the mean air temperature was higher than average. In early seeding, various weeds occurred at the emergence date of rice and dominant weeds were Alopecurus aequailis, Ludwigia prostata and Rorippa islandica. NH$_4$$^{+}$ -N content in the soil at the 5th leaf stage and maximum tillering stage were lower, as the seeding date was earlier when nitrogen was split applied as basal and top dressed in 1996, while it was not significantly different among seeding dates when nitrogen was intensively applied as a top dressing in 1998. Tiller number at the maximum tillering stage and panicle number/m$^2$ were more, as seeding date was earlier in 1996, while it was not different in 1998. Filled grain rate and 1,000 grain weight was not different among the seeding dates. Milled rice yield was significantly decreased in the seeding before the middle of March, but in the seeding after late March, it was not varied when compared with the normal seeding date in 1996, while in 1998, there was no difference among seeding dates. From the above results, in consideration of seedling stand, weed occurance, rice growth and milled rice yield, the critical optimum early seeding time in the southern plain area may lie in early April. But it was suggested that when soil moisture is proper for seeding practices, seeding amount is increased and nitrogen is applied after plumule emergence of rice, milled rice yield may not be reduced in the seeding of middle or late March, compared with the seeding in April.l.

케나프 생산성 향상을 위한 안정 재배기술 개발 (Development of Stable Culture Techniques for Kenaf (Hibiscus cannabinus L.))

  • 양질의 사료작물 소재로서 국내 재배기술에 대한 재배기준이 설정되어 있지 않은 케나프를 2012~2013년 2년 동안 시험처리를 통하여 파종법을 구명한 결과 케나프의 파종방법은 기계화 파종(옥수수 파종기 사용)이 가능한 점파가 수량 증가에 적합하였는데 파종거리를 $20{\times}20cm$로 할 경우 관행 $20{\times}30cm$ 처리에 비해 수량이 32% 증가한 13,641 kg/10a가 가능하였다. 케나프의 최대수량 확보를 위한 적정 파종시기는 5월 1일 이었는데 5월 1일 파종의 경우 생체수량 13,423 kg/10a로 5월 30일 파종 대비 30%가 증수되었고 조단백질 함량도 12.7%로 5월 30일 대비 16.5% 증가하였다. 제초제는 Fluazipof-p-butyl 사용이 가장 효율적이었는데 제초율이 97% 이었고 약해는 5% 이하로 안정적이었다. 케나프의 전북지역 적응성을 임실, 고창, 순창 등 3개 지역에서 확인한 결과 모두 안정적으로 재배가 가능함이 확인되었는데 3개 지역 평균 수량이 12,400 kg/10a로 옥수수에 비해 약 1.7 배 정도 수확하는 것이 가능하였다.

드문모심기 적정 파종량 및 육묘일수 분석 (Seeding Rate and Days for Low-density Transplant Cultivation)

  • 최근 벼 이앙 시 필요한 육묘상자 개수를 크게 절감할 수 있는 새로운 생력재배기술로 주목받고 있는 드문모심기의 안전 육묘기술을 개발하기 위해 육묘상자당 파종량 및 육묘일수에 등 육묘환경에 따른 모소질 변화를 분석한 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 육묘일수 10일 시 파종량에 따라 엽수, 줄기두께가 변하였으며, 육묘일수 20일에는 초장, 엽수, 줄기두께가 유의적인 차이를 보였다. 2. 상자 당 파종량 증가에 따라 육묘일수에 따른 초장신장, 엽령증가정도 및 줄기두께 증가정도가 감소하는 경향이었다. 3. 상자 당 파종량 증가에 따라 줄기 건물중 및 뿌리 건물증이 감소하였으며 그 감소폭은 육묘일수 10일에 비해 20일에 크게 증가하였다. 4. 어린모의 줄기 건물중은 뿌리건물중, 초장 및 줄기두께와 높은 정의 상관관계를 보였으며, 상자 당 파종량 증가 시 모충실도는 낮아지며 육묘일수당 모충실도 감소량도 증가하는 경향이었다. 5. 드문모심기 시 육묘상자 절감의 효율증대를 위해 최소 묘취량을 설정하여 이앙 시 주당 3~5본을 이앙하기 위한 적정 파종개수는 11,000로 현미천리중이 22 g인 종자의 경우 약 280~300 g으로 판단되며 이 때 적정 육묘일수는 모충실도감소가 적은 13~16일로 판단된다.

보리 품종간 혼파 비율에 따른 수량과 사료적 가치 (Effect of Mixed Seeding Types and Ratios of Whole Crop Barley for High Yield and Feed Value)

  • 사료용으로 개발된 청보리 품종들은 일반 곡실용 보리품종에 비해 조사료 생산량이 30%이상 증수하고 가축선호성이 우수한 품종이다. 이러한 사료용 전용품종을 이용하여 품종이 가지고 있는 생육특성별 단점을 보완한 품종간 혼파 재배기술의 개발을 통한 군락공간의 최대 활용 및 영양가치 등을 고려한 단위면적당 생산량을 최대화하는데 목적이 있다. 영양보리는 직립초형이고 다수성이며, 유연보리는 삼차망이면서 키가 크고, 다미보리는 무엽이 특성이 있고, 우호보리는 포복형이면서 키가 크고 매끈망을 지니고 있다. 소만보리는 숙기가 빠르고, 분얼이 많은 특성이 있다. 2조보리인 호품보리는 청보리에 비해 등숙이 빠르고 분얼이 많은 장점을 가지고 있다. 이러한 각기 다른 특성을 지닌 품종을 이용하여 청보리 최적 혼파 조합을 선발하고자 시험조사한 결과, 영양50+호품50 조합, 유연70+호품30 조합, 다미50+호품50 조합이 가장 좋았고, 이 중 가장 높은 생산성을 보인 조합은 유연70+호품30 조합이었다. 품질특성면에서는 조단백함량이 높고, NDF와 ADF 수치가 낮고, TDN 수치가 높을수록 좋은 품질로 인정받는데 품종간의 조합 중 유연보리와 호품보리, 다미보리와 호품보리 조합이 우수한 성적을 나타냈다.
