  • The purpose of this paper is to study the basic medicine of the Gojoseon(古朝鮮) dynasty, especially 5 fields which are the theory of yin-yang(陰陽論), the theory of 5 progressive phasis(五行論), the theory of mind-body(心身論), Seon-gyo(仙敎), acupuncture(鍼術). The theory of yin-yang can be studied in the point of contents of it, not the name of it. Whan-in(桓因) is the god of sky, Woong(熊) is the god of earth. Whan-woong(桓雄), who is the son of Whan-in(桓因), came down from the sky, turned into a man. Woong(熊) lived in the cave, eating garlic and wormwood for 21days, got out of it and turned into a woman. The changes occurred by the mutual aid of Whan-woong and Woong. The theory of 5 progressive phasis can be founded in the archery. The bow and arrow is made of cucumber, horn and ligament of cow, glue made from airbladders of sciaenoid fish, which belong to mock(木). Beejeongbeepal(非丁非八) and make strong one's abdomen(腹實) belong ti soo(水), empty out one's chest(胞虛) belongs to whar(畵), thrusting(前推泰山) belongs to mock(木), shooting(發如虎尾) belongs to geom(金). Basically mind and body have no differance. Mind without body does not exist. Exocism excites the exorcist to the condition of whar(火). There are 3 parts, as treaLment, prevent, regimen, in the medicine. 2 parts as idealism and realism are in regimen. Seon-gyo(仙敎) belongs to the idealism of regimen. In China, is became Taoism(仙敎) later The art of accupunture was developed in the Gulf of pohair(渤海灣).

  • Background : Yang-do-rack is frequently used in diagnosing syndromes in oriental medical hospital, but there has been few clinical report on Yang-do-rack. So we intended to find out the relationship among Yang-do-rack, general characteristics and the differentiaion of syndromes in acute stroke patients. Materials and Methods : In this study we selected the subjects who were hospitalized from March 1, 1998 to July 31. 1998 at the department of circulatory internal medicine at college of oriental medicine, in Kyung-Hee University, diagnosed acute cerebral infarction or hemorrhage within 7 days after onset time. We checked Yang-do-rack scores with Autonomic Nervous System YORAK (Sord Medicom co. Ltd, Korea) and calculated the scores of each diffentiation of syndroms. Resuts : 1. In left leg meridian, there was more numerical value male than female on LF1, LF2, LF4, LF6. The value of LF1, LF3, LF4, LF5 was getting lower as the score of heat-transformation syndrom(火熱證) increased. 2. In left arm meridian, there was more numerical value male than female on LH2, LH5. The value of LH1, LH3, LH5 was getting lower as the score of exuberance of Yang due to deficiency of Yin syndrom(陰虛陽亢證) increased. 3. In right leg meridian, there was more numerical value male than female on RF1, RF2, RF4, RF6. The value of RF3, RF5 was getting lower as the score of heat-transformation syndrom(火熱證) increased and RF4 as the score of exuberance of Yang due to deficiency of Yin syndrom(陰虛陽亢證) increased. 4. In right arm meridian, the value of RH1 was getting lower as the score of exuberance of Yang due to deficiency of Yin syndrom(陰虛陽亢證) increased. These results show that the Yang-do-rack diagnosis could offer supplemental help for diffrentiation of syndroms in acute stroke patient.

  • Objectives : He Meng-Yao(何夢瑤), a doctor from Qing Dynasty, wrote Yi Bian(醫碥, Fundamentals of Medicine), in which he described many things related to Medical Medicine of divination (醫易). As the content includes a lot of teachings for the posterity, I have studied it. Methods : I have taken from Yi Bian(醫碥) the selections related to Medicine of divination(醫易) and explained them. Results : While accepting the principle of upholding yang and suppressing yin based on the understanding of the Book of Changes(周易) that takes a superior man for yang and a small man for yin, He Meng-Yao(何夢瑤), who thought of both yin and yang as Qi (energy), criticized the contemporary malpractice of uniformly applying the principle. In matching the five viscera to the Eight Trigrams(八卦), he put Qian and Dui Trigram(乾兌) to lung, Kan Trigram(坎卦) to kidney, Zhen and Xun Trigram(震巽) to liver, Li Trigram(離卦) to heart, and Kun and Gen Trigram(坤艮) to spleen, which is reasonable. He didn't fix the position of the vital gate and called it Fire in water(水中之火), and set great store by the role of Fire from Vital Gate(命門火) by calling it Water begetting tree(水生木) when the fire of the vital gate steams the kidney water and turns it into Qi to send it up to liver. He emphasized Water-ascending and Fire-descending(水升火降), which he said involves all five viscera. He also argued that mind runs on the principle of water-ascending and fire-descending. He thought that Qi and blood both originate from kidney, which I think is a significant suggestion. Conclusions : The criticism on the uniform application of upholding yang and suppressing yin, the combination of the five viscera and the Eight Trigrams(八卦), the belief that the Vital gate(命門) is Fire in water(水中之火), the excellent opinion on water-ascending and fire-descending, and the suggestion that Qi and blood both originate from kidney, as presented by He Meng-Yao(何夢瑤), are all theories that should be reasonably appreciated and further developed by the posterity.

  • The most distintive features on the Thinking Structure of the Views of the Nature and the Theories of the Medicine of the ancient Chinese are a Comprehensions to the System of the Nature which reveals in the Natural Phenomena. Nothing doesn't changed in the Nature and man also. These Changes are inevitable to the man. So it isn't easy to grasp the Essence of the Natural Phenomena which always be changed. I-Ching (易經, Book of Changes), Chung-Yung (中庸) and many other books are that has a theories about the Changes, the ancients could recognized the unchangeable constancy from the ever changeable Natural Phenomena. The unchangeable constancy on the Oriental thinking means as same as an 'Idea' on the Western thinking. These process made them shape up the Views of the Nature and the Medical theories. And Chi (氣), Yin-Yang (陰陽) and Wu-Hsing (五行) are the most important concepts of their views and theories. In the concepts of Chi as an epistemological meaning; the Nature and the Han can be appreciated as a one System, because his being is within the Changes of the Nature and should be in accord with those Changes. He was going to believe that all beings are exist as an existential rules of himself. So Chi can be thougt as an epistemological system to all beings' existence. Thinking of Yin-Yang as a existential meaning; all beings are exist having a contrary and a complementary to each other. Birth and Death, Be ginning and Finishing in a series of the process occurs in all beings are the two sides of their existential and intrinsic tendencies. That can be condensed to the Yin-Yang concepts. In the consideration of Wu-Hsing;all beings are observed and explained more deliberatively by it's own rules. By the way the concepts of Chi, Yin-Yang and Wu-Hsing which derived from the processes of the recognition to the Changes of the Nature are practiced actually by the thoughts of Harmony. And it is represented by the accordance to the Time of the Natural Changes, that is, Shiling (時令). It means a adjustments to the Time and Changes of the Nature. The health of all beings that is an aim of the Medicine can be maintained by their practical thoughts or the concepts of Shiling.

  • For the purpose of searching examination in the connection with clinical medicine and the basic theory of Korean Medicine, we comparatively studied on the physiological system of Hyun-Gok (1912~1987) and the Hyunsang system of Ji-San (1927~2000). The results are as follows. The metabolism of Yin and Yang is connected 'Gallbladder (膽)'-'Bladder (膀胱)' and Man (男), Woman (女), Old aged (老), Young child (小) style. Man and Woman are divided in the body form chacteristic not by the sex. 'Gallbladder (膽)'-'Bladder (膀胱)' style are divided in the body form chacteristic by the terms of Yin (陰) and Yang (陽). 'Gallbladder (膽)' style represents excessive Yang and deficient Yin, 'Bladder (膀胱)' style represents excessive Yin and deficient Yang. The four composition factor of the body is connected Material basis (精) type, Vital energy (氣) type, Mental faculties (神) type and Blood (血) type. In the diagnosis of body form on the Hyungsang Medicine, there are several types of body shape and categories of people. The Material basis (精) type, Vital energy (氣) type, Mental faculties (神) type and Blood (血) type are classified by the four composition factor of the body. The structural-mechanics organization of five Internal Organs (臟) is connected five Internal Organs (臟) types and the running-animal (走), bird (鳥), fish (魚), turtle (甲) types in the Hyunsang system. The five Internal Organs (臟) types are percived on the ears, eyes, nose, mouth and facial complexion. And the running-animal, bird, fish, turtle types are accorded to the individual personalities and the most-developed part in the body trunk by the Organ picture (藏象) theory. The six atmospheric influences (六氣) is connected the six Kyung types (六經形). The six Kyung types are regulated by the shape of eyes and nose representing for the relation of Vital energy (氣) and Blood (血). By the comparative study on the physiological system of Hyun-Gok and the Hyunsang system of Ji-San, we can search the connection with clinical medicine and the basic theory of Korean Medicine.
