An Analysis on the Citizen's Health by Using the Twitter Data of Yellow Dust

  • Economic and social damages are expected due to yellow dust, occurring every year in Korea and risk of citizens is getting higher accordingly. This study acquired tweet data for yellow dust, which had been the greatest since 2009 for 11 days before and after February 23, 2015. After that, it conducted an analysis on the issue words and association rule. Regarding acquired tweet data, the results of analyzing issue words by using open source R, statistics language shows that 'Mask' was ranked to be the highest, followed by health-related issue words. This indicates that people put the priority in the use of mask for keeping their health, as a result of the occurrence of yellow dust, and subsequently, they showed an interest in diseases, caused by yellow dust. In addition, yellow dust-related diseases, 'cold', 'rhinitis', 'flu', 'asthma', 'bronchitis' were found as issue words, revealing that people had a high concern on the disease occurrence of the respiratory system. The analytical results are judged to reflect the citizen's thought effectively in the process of establishing measures for the prevention of yellow dust.

Dynamics of Air Pollutants during the Yellow Sand Phenomena (黃砂現象의 大氣汚染物質 動態에 關한 硏究)

  • To check the possible transportation of gaseous air pollutants with the particles of yellow sand in the movement of air masses during the Yellow Sand Phenomenon, the concentrations of such air pollutants as TSP, $SO_2, CO, NO_x, O_3 and N-CH_4$, and wind wpeed were measured during the Yellow Sand Phenomenon (April 8 $\sim 10, 1990) and they were compared with those during the normal times in Korea. Meanwhile dust color of the samples during the Yellow Sand Phenomenon was the color of sand, that during the normal times was dark-brown. The concentrations of dusts; water soluble components, and metallic components of soil-originated elements during the Yellow Sand Phenomenon were higher than those during the normal times. While the metallic components in the dusts during the Yellow Sand Phenomenon were from soil-originated elements, those during the normal times were of both soiloriginated and sea-originated elements. The change of hourly concentrations of air pollutants showed bi-modal distribution during the two periods. Generally, the concentration levels of air pollutants during the Yellow Sand Period were higher than those during the normal times. Although similarity was observed in the primary sources, differences were observed in the dynamics of the secondary sources due to chemical reactions of the air pollutants during the two periods.

On the Yellow Sand Detection using KOMPSAT OSMI Data (KOMPSAT OSMI 자료를 이용한 황사탐지)

  • Radiative transfer model was used to detect the yellow sand using KOMPSAT-1/0SMI data. With OSMI and SeaWiFS data, spectrum analysis for spatial and channel were carried out to investigate the characteristics of sensor for the detection of yellow sand. It was compared and analyzed the optical depth of OSMI and SeaWiFS data. Spectral characteristics of x-axis is similar in 765 and 865nm according to spectral analysis for OSMI and SeaWiFS data. It is considered that band 7 and 8(765 and 865nm) of OSMI is suitable for detecting the yellow sand. Compared the yellow sand images by OSMI and MODIS, the data of OSMI are applicable to monitor the yellow sand phenomena. The optical depth of yellow sand event was about 0.8 with 1.0 maximum.

  • In other to understand the effect of yellow soil to mortality of Korean scallops, P. yessoensis, We investigated its mortality at indoor tanks. The environmental conditions such as water temperature, Salinity, Do and pH were continued constantly during the experimental periods. The 100% of survival rate showed in two experiments groups such as 0.1% and 0.4% of concentration of yellow soil and the other groups as 0.05% and 0.2% of concentration of yellow soil was appeared one dead scallop at each group for 8 days of the experiment periods. the gills of scallop in high concentration of yellow soil (0.2% and 0.4% groups) were covered by yellow soil particles so that this group's scallop should be got a high stress from yellow soil. I think this situation will be more continued for long time the scallop will become to dead. The results of bacteriological analysis did not isolated from haemolymph of scallops and no Perkinsus infectious disease in scallops and the scallops showed necrosis and degeneration on digestive grand and gills of scallop.

  • A new graft cactus (Chamaecereus silvestrii f. variegata) cultivars "Yellow Ttree" was developed at Cactus Research Institute, Gyeonggi-do A.R.E.S. in 2007. GC013001 and GC0110703 were crossed in 2005 and we got 42 seedlings from this combination. After pedigree selection in 2005, one cultivar were finally selected through the test of specific character in 2007 and named as "Yellow Ttree". "Yellow Ttree" has cylindrical shape of yellow color with 13~14 ribs. Formation of its offshoots is concentrated on the lower part of the plant. This cultivar is able to produce 13.9 offsets shoots per plant and its offshoots are hard.

  • The changes of amine, nitrate and nitrite nitrogen in yellow corvenia were studied during its processing and storage in order to clarify the precursors of N-nitrosamine(NA) formation in the salted and dried yellow corvenia(Gulbi), prepared y using the different salting method like dry and brine salting by pure and curde salt. As a result, during the processing and storage of Gulbi, DMA and TMA contents were significantly increased in the yellow corvenia. And after 40 days storage the increase rate showed 25.7∼45.7, 3.3∼5.6 times higher than those of 0.3, 2.4mg/kg, respectively, while nitrite contents, during its processing and storage, were scarcely changed in the salted and dried yellow corvenia. During the processing and storage, of Gulbi, DMA and TMA contents were less produced in brine salted and dried yellow corvenia using crude salt than in sample prepared using were scarcely changed in the salted and dried yellow corvenia. During the processing and storage of Gulbi, DMA and TMA contents were less produced in brine salted and dried yellow corvenia using crude salt than in sample prepared using pure salt, while the former were more effective than the latter in inhibiting the production of nitrate and nitrite. Therefore, it was revealed that reduction of NA precursors such as DMA, TMA, nitrate and nitrite were more effective in preparing with the brine salting method than with the dry salting method.

  • In the present study, we investigated the characteristic of growth and the tolerance of cold temperature in small yellow croaker and yellow drum. The results shows that the growth of yellow drum were faster than those of small yellow croaker with high food convergency efficiency. In condition factor (CF), the results shows that the values of yellow croaker and yellow drum were significantly higher in September, respectively. In mortality according to cold shock, two fishes was died under $4.7^{\circ}C$ in slow temperature descending test, but was both died under $9^{\circ}C$ in acute temperature descending test.

  • To examine the detectability of the aerosol and/or Yellow dust from China crossing over the Yellow sea, three works carried out as follows , Firstly, a comparison was made of the visible(VIS), water vapor(WV), and Infrared(IR) images of the GMS-5 and NOAA/AVHRR on the cases of yellow sand event over Korea. Secondly, the spectral radiance and reflectance(%) was observed during the yellow sand phenomena on April, 1998 in Seoul using the GER-2600 spectroradiometer, which observed the reflected radiance from 350 to 2500 nm in the atmosphere. We selected the optimum wavelength for detecting of the yellow sand from this observation, considering the effects of atmospheric absorption. Finally, the atmospheric radiance emerging from the LOWTRAN-7 radiative transfer model was simulated with and without yellow sand, where we used the estimated aerosol column optical depth ($\tau$ 673 nm) in the Meteorological Research Institute and the d'Almeida's statistical atmospheric aerosol radiative characteristics. The image analysis showed that it was very difficult to detect the yellow sand region only by the image processing because the albedo characteristics of the sand vary irregularly according to the density, size, components and depth of the yellow sand clouds. We found that the 670-680 nm band was useful to simulate aerosol characteristics considering the absorption band from the radiance observation. We are now processing the simulation of atmospheric radiance distribution in the range of 400-900 nm. The purpose of this study is to present the preliminary results of the aerosol and/or Yellow dust detectability using the Ocean Scanning Multispectral Imager(OSMI), which will be mounted on KOMPSAT-1 as the ocean color monitoring sensor with the range of 400-900 nm wavelength.

Evaluation of Occurrence of Yellow Patch Caused by Rhizoctonia cerealis of Cool Season Turfgrass Cultivars and Species (한지형 잔디의 종과 품종 간에 황색마름병의 발생 평가)

  • We investigated occurrence of yellow patch for early spring season of 48 cultivars in 5 species of turfgrass, most popularly used in Korea golf courses. Only yellow patch disease caused by Rhizoctonia cerealis was occurred naturally from late fall season. Perennial ryegrass and creeping bentgrass cultivars showed susceptibility from yellow patch in early spring, respectively. However, among There was no significantly different between the other species. Creeping bentgrass, 'Pennlinks II' cultivar was the most susceptible. Yellow patch symptom showed reddish brown with margins in color and patch showed size from 5 cm to 50 cm in diameter. Based on our results, Yellow patch showed large differences among cultivar and each turfgrass species.

The volume decreased with increasing mandarin powder concentration. The weights of yellow layer cake increased with increasing mandarin powder concentration. L value and a value decreased with increasing mandarin powder concentration in the crumb. b value increased with increasing mandarin powder concentration. The baking loss rate decreased with increasing mandarin powder. In the texture hardness, gumminess, chewiness and adhesiveness of yellow layer cakes significantly increased with increasing mandarin powder concentration. springiness and cohesiveness of yellow layer cakes significantly decreased. In the results of sensory evaluation, when compared to the control, the bread added to 9% of mandarin powder was superior to in color and flavor, while was similar to texture and taste.
