Yarn tension is a key factor that affects the efficiency of a ring spinning system. In this paper, a specially constructed rig, which can rotate a yam at a high speed without inserting any real twist into the yarn, was used to simulate a ring spinning process. Yarn tension was measured at the guide-eye during the simulated spinning of different yarns at various balloon heights and with varying yarn length in the balloon. The effect of balloon shape, yarn hairiness and thickness, and yam rotating speed, on the measured yarn tension, was examined. The results indicate that the collapse of balloon shape from single loop to double loop, or from double loop to triple etc, lead to sudden reduction in yarn tension. Under otherwise identical conditions, a longer length of yarn in the balloon gives a lower yarn tension at the guide-eye. In addition, thicker yarns and/or more hairy yarns generate a higher tension in the yarn, due to the increased air drag acting on the thicker or more hairy yarns.
This paper aims at the performance enhancement of tension controller for the yarn manufacturing process. The tension controller is required to keep the tension constant while the yarn is manufactured by a draw and twist machine, which is essential and critical for good quality production of yarn, steel, paper, etc. This paper proposes a linear model of tension control plant to develop a precise tension control system, which is derived by the close observation of the conventional mathematical model of motor driving and tension control systems. It is shown by experiments that the proposed control system precisely maintains the tension constant within the error bound of 0.05% while the conventional PI controller has about 0.2% error. The control performance of the system has been compared to that of conventional PI control not only for constant speed control but also for transient speed control experiments.
An experimental investigation has done for studying the changes of physical properties of the air-jet textured polyester yarn. Through the experiments of polyester 85/72 drawn yarn and 50/36 partially oriented yarn doubling' the following results are obtained. The tenacity of textured yarn decreased as the number of tension rings increased when the nozzle diameter was 1.2 mm. In the case when the tension ring was not used during the texturing process, the tenacity of textured yarn decreased as the nozzle diameter increased. But this tendency changed according to the number of tension rings used, the diameter of the nozzle, and yarn take-up speed. Breaking elongation decreased as the number of tension rings increased from one to four and the take-up speed increased at diameter 1.2 mm of the nozzle. The higher the diameter of the the nozzle the higher the breaking elongation until 1.4 mm. The number of interlacing went down as the diameter of the nozzle increased and the take-up speed of the yarn increased. The higher the number of tension rings, the lower the number of interlacing.
Polyester fabrics, which is a major product in Daegu and Kyungbuk district, recently have a frequent warp streak phenomenon of sizing textiles for peach skin. So, this paper intensively focuses on the analysis of finding causes of poor products which may be produced in the process of sizing. Depending on the changes of sizing yarn's physical characteristic varying on sizing conditions, results of the research are as followed. 1. Sizing add-on rate, following tension changes of originally supplied yarn in sizing, does not fluctuate until 30g sizing tension, but marks high on the increase of sizing speed. 2. Sizing add-on amount increases approximately by 2.5% when interlacing pressure is raised from 1.5kg/$cm^2$ to 3.5kg/$cm^2$ at $130^{\circ}C$ sizing temperature. 3. Following the increase of sizing tension from 10g to 50g, boiling shrinkage rate of desizing yarn changes approximately from 7% to 11%. But the more sizing temperature and speed increases, the bigger the change rate becomes. 4. The thermal stress of desizing yarn is sensitively influenced by sizing tension in the sizing degree of above $130^{\circ}C$. 5. The deviation rate of sizing yarn's initial modulus value, which is influenced by air pressure in interlacing raw yarn, marks the highest at 40g and 50g strength.
The increase of the spindle speed to enhance the productivity in ring spinning processes has been limited by yarn tension and heat generation of the traveller/ring. The main causes of yarn tension are 1) the force added directly to the yarn by the rotation of the spindle and 2) the centrifugal force exerted by the yarn balloon generated by traveller rotation. The dominant causes of heat generation are 1) the friction between the ring and traveller and 2) the friction between the traveller and yarn. These factors cause yarn end-breaks and heat damage. In the case of the staple yarn manufacturing process for PET (polyester) and nylon (a heat plasticity material), the rotational speed of the ring spinning system has deteriorated to 10,000rpm. The objective of this study was to develop a rotating ring which has dynamic stability, high productivity and a simple structure to overcome the limitations of the conventional fixed ring/traveller system. The results of this study revealed that the spinning tension could be reduced by 67.8% using the newly developed rotating ring.
This study surveys the warp and weft tension differences between projectile and air-jet looms and analyses the mechanical properties of worsted fabrics for garment with relation of these loom characteristics using KES-FB system. The paper is divided by two parts. In the 1st paper, the worsted fabric is woven as 5 harness satin weave using 1/40 Nm sirofil worsted warp yarn and 1/30 Nm worsted weft yarn by projectile(Sulzer) and air-jet looms(Picanol PAT and OMNI), respectively. The weavability is also analysed by measuring warp tension variation according to the warp position and weft tension of 3 kinds of looms. The relationship between shed amount and the warp tension is surveyed, and the relationship between end breaks and warp and weft tensions is also discussed.
This paper is devoted to yarn tension control problem in winding machines. The passive take-up unit is replaced by active one with ADRC(Active Disturbance Rejection Control) and it was compared with the method using conventional PD(Proportional-Derivative) controller. The main part of ADRC is ESO(Extended State Observer) which continuously estimates nonlinearities of the system, such as intrinsic nonlinearity, external disturbance and sensor noise. Then the estimated nonlinearity is used to compensate the real one, thus making controlled system linear. A number of experiments have been conducted in order to verify the performance of the original winding system to the modified one. Experiments have shown improved efficiency of the system with adopting active yarn tension control. Experimental results show that the ADRC achieves a better tension response than PD controller and is robust to parameters variation.
Texturing is the process of including a characteristic of a natural fiber in a synthetic fiber. The most common method of it the false twist texturing. Nylon textured yarn is primarily manufactured by the disk type. The major process parameters or the disk type false twist machine ratio, disk/yarn, and heater temperature. This study therefore investigated the effects of false twist texturing, especially speed and draw ratio, on the physical properties of nylon textured yarn. The increase of speed was proportional to the increase of unwinding tension, which could reduce the production efficiency by elevating the tension affecting to fiber during the process. In addition, the increase of speed was inversely proportional to the increase of crimp rigidity of nylon textured yarn. Draw ratio was proportionally increased with the increase of tenacity and the reductions of fineness and elongation, showing the influence or draw ratio to the ultimate physical properties of textured yarn.
In the single yarn spinning process by the ring spinning system, the finer the fineness of yarn and the lower the twist coefficient, the lower the breaking strength and breaking elongation. The change of yarn specific volume to yarn number agreed with Peirce's formula in the range of Ne 50 to 70, but above that range the values of the experiment are higher than that of the formula. The change of diameter of yarn to the reciprocal of the square root of yarn number agreed with Peirce's formula in the range of under 0.14, but above that value the values of the experiment are higher than that of the formula. In breaking strength variation according to twist constant of single yarn, as the twist coefficient increased, breaking strength increased. At 5.8∼6.0 of twist coefficient the maximum breaking strength was shown, but above that value breaking strength decreased. Breaking elongation also showed a similar tendency. But at 6.0∼6.5 of twist coefficient the maximum breaking elongation was shown. Also spinning tension increased as twist coefficient increased. Twist coefficient, breaking strength and breaking elongation according to the number of coils stayed almost the same. Yarn spinning tension according to the number of coils at the maximum of diameter was the lowest value. The speed of the traveller at the maximum of diameter was the highest value.
Shrinkage properties of drawn textured Poly(trimethylene terephthalate, PTT) yarn, which has been developed recently, were investigated to provide fundamental information for the textile industry. Shrinkage ratio characteristics on PTT yarn with six different count were investigated with tension, dry and wet thermal temperature. In non-tension, the shrinkage ratio were increased to increasing temperature at dry and wet thermal treatment, and in tension, the shrinkage ratio were increased to increasing tension at dry and wet thermal treatment.
