Purpose: This study was aimed to determine the optimum low-density lipoprotein : high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (LDL : HDL-C) ratio for predicting coronary heart disease(CHD) in Korean people. Methods: It was analyzed this data of 5,431 adults who had undergone health examinations in a hospital in Gyeonggi-do between January 2006 and December 2007. The covariation of the coronary risk factors such as age, HbA1C, systolic blood pressure(SBP), and waist-to-stature ratio(WSR) were analyzed by using logistic regression analysis. Results: The LDL : HDL-C ratio in the male and female groups was mostly distributed between 1.5 and 4.0. The LDL : HDL-C ratio was the most significant cholesterol-related parameter influencing CHD (male: B = .306, p = .054, female : B = .940, p = .010), followed by LDL-C and total cholesterol. It was observed a sharp increase in the odds ratios for LDL : HDL-C ratios of 2.25 - 2.50(male) and 2.00 - 2.25(female). A significant difference was observed in both male(2.25 : $x^2$ = 2.494, p = .072) and female(2.00 : $x^2$ = 413.742, p = .000) groups. Conclusion: The risk level of CHD was set to 2.25 for males and 2.00 for females. Therefore, the optimum LDL : HDL-C ratio for Koreans should be far lower than that for the people in western countries.
In this paper, we first propose a fast division algorithm in GF($2^{163}$) using standard basis representation, and then it is mapped into divider for GF($2^{163}$) with iterative hardware structure. The proposed algorithm is based on the binary ExtendedGCD algorithm, and the arithmetic operations for modular reduction are performed within only one "while-statement" unlike conventional approach which uses two "while-statement". In this paper, we use reduction polynomial $f(x)=x^{163}+x^7+x^6+x^3+1$ that is recommended in SEC2(Standards for Efficient Cryptography) using standard basis representation, where degree m = 163. We also have implemented the proposed iterative architecture in FPGA using Verilog HDL, and it operates at a clock frequency of 85 MHz on Xilinx-VirtexII XC2V8000 FPGA device. From implementation results, we will show that computation speed of the proposed scheme is significantly improved than the existing two approaches.

There are a lot of on-going researches on various security technologies for guaranteeing the safety of home network systems. Until now, a few security technologies such as device authentication mechanism, user authentication mechanism, access control mechanism and firewall are generally deployed, and they are just simple. However, we need some representation skills in order to efficiently define the home network and describe the security for managing and performing these security mechanisms. So, in this paper, we define the xHDL language to define and describe the security components of home network and analyze the semantics of each components.

With an increasing importance of the information security issues, the efficienct calculation process in terms of finite field level is becoming more important in the Elliptic curve cryptosystems. Serial multiplication architectures are based on the Mastrovito's serial multiplier structure. In this paper, we manipulate the numerical expressions so that we could suggest a 3-times as fast as (3x) the Mastrovito's multiplier using the polynomial basis. The architecture was implemented with HDL, to be evaluated and verified with EDA tools. The implemented 3x GF (Galois Field) multiplier showed 3 times calculation speed as fast as the Mastrovito's, only with the additional partial-sum generation processing unit.
Purpose: The triglyceride-to-high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (TG/HDL-C) ratio is one of the main predictive indices for cardiovascular disease. This study was examined the relationship between TG/HDL-C ratio and metabolic syndrome (MetS) in male office workers. Methods: Secondary analysis was conducted to determine the risk between the TG/HDL-C ratio and MetS in male office workers. A total of 765 people underwent the 'regular workplace health checkups in 2014'. Among the subjects who were male and responded to the questionnaire and health lifestyle survey, 470 (61.4%) excluding those with missing and/or abnormal values were analyzed. The association between MetS, MetS components, and the TG/HDL-C ratio was examined by a Chi-square test, One-way ANOVA, Turkey post-hoc test and Logistic regression analysis. Results: The number of males with MetS was 70 (14.9%) and the number of MetS components increased with increasing TG/HDL-C ratio (p<.001). Logistic regression analysis with an adjustment for potential confounders revealed a 31.8 times higher odds ratio of the Quartile4 group for MetS than that of the Quartile1 group (p<.001). Conclusion: These results show that the likelihood of MetS, particularly the risk of MetS in the Quartile4, increases with increasing TG/HDL-C ratio.

This experimental research is aimed to apply a health promotion program based on Cox's interaction model to such college students as are on the brink of dyslipidemia, so as to investigate the effects of the program on the subjects' blood lipid indexes including total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), high-density lipoprotein (HDL), and low-density lipoproteins (LDL). The subjects are 39 in all including the experimental group comprising 20 and the control group comprising 19. The analyses applied include descriptive statistics using SPSS WIN 18.0, $X^2$-test, independent t-test, and paired t-test. By means of nursing interventions which are an element of client-professional interaction, the following were offered including health information (exercise management, dietary management, health education), emotional support (sharing of experiences, encouragement, self expression), decision-making controlling (counselling by phone), and professional/ technical abilities; and blood lipid indexes were measured before and after the interventions. The results of this research found that TC, TG and LDL decreased significantly and HDL increased significantly in the experimental group, which indicates that the health promotion program was effective.

FlexRay is a high-speed communications protocol with high flexibility and reliability. It was devised by automotive manufacturers and semiconductor vendors and implemented as on vehicle LAN protocol using x-by-wire systems. FlexRay provides a high speed serial communication, time triggered bus and fault tolerant communication between electronic devices for automotive applications. In this paper, we first design the FlexRay communication controller, bus guardian protocol specification and function parts using SDL (Specification and Description Language). Then, the system is re-designed using Verilog HDL based on the SDL source. The FlexRay system was synthesized using Samsung $0.35{\mu}m$ technology. It is shown that the designed system can operate in the frequency range above 76 MHz. In addition, to show the validity of the designed FlexRay system, the FlexRay system is combined with automobile advance alarm system in vehicle applications. The FlexRay system is implemented using ALTERA Excalibur ARM EPXA4F672C3. It is shown that the implemented system operates successfully.

Efficient finite field operation in the elliptic curve (EC) public key cryptography algorithm, which attracts much of latest issues in the applications in information security, is very important. Traditional serial finite multipliers root from Mastrovito's serial multiplication architecture. In this paper, we adopt the polynomial basis and propose a new finite field multiplier, inducing numerical expressions which can be applied to exhibit 3 times as much performance as the Mastrovito's. We described the proposed multiplier with HDL to verify and evaluate as a proper hardware IP. So far, there have been grossly 3 types of studies on GF($2^m$) multiplier architecture, such as serial multiplication, array multiplication, and hybrid multiplication. In this paper, we propose a novel approach on developing serial multiplier architecture based on Mastrovito's, by modifying the numerical formula of the polynomial-basis serial multiplication. The proposed multiplier architecture was described and implemented in HDL so that the novel architecture was simulated and verified in the level of hardware as well as software.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study is to understand the difference in the risk factors of coronary artery disease (CAD) between Korean and American CAD patients to determine the discriminant factor for each group, as well as to provide useful information to be reflected in the national concern of health. METHODS: Data were collected from 248 Korean and 107 American CAD patients who underwent either percutaneous coronary intervention or coronary artery bypass grafting. By using t-test and $X^2$-test, risk factors were compared between the Koreans and Americans. To elucidate which risk factor was the most discriminant for each group, logistic regression analysis was performed. RESULTS: All risk factors, except diastolic blood pressure, showed a significant difference between the two groups. $X^2$-test showed statistical significance with respect to the smoking rate between the female groups. Moreover, there was a statistically significant difference between the two groups regarding blood total cholesterol (TC) and triglyceride, and between the male groups, here was a statistically significant difference with respect to blood high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL). Diabetes mellitus (DM) was the most discriminant factor for Korean patients while TC/HDL is the most discriminant for the Americans. CONCLUSION: The characteristics of CAD risk factors were determined to be different between Koreans and Americans in this study. TC/HDL was a discriminant factor for Americans while DM was a discriminant factor for Koreans. This result implies that DM should primarily be given attention to prevent CAD in Korean adults.
