A Study Regarding a Formal Change of Bureau - From Medieval Ages to Neo-Classicism - (뷰로의 형식 변화에 대한 연구 - 중세~신고전주의시대를 중심으로 -)

  • The historical consciousness of furniture is one of the crucial elements that become the medium for initiating design. Also, it is an important task of the science to figure out the headstream of furniture being used these days. From this purpose, this study intends to understand the bureau that has not been studied much in terms of the headstream and changes based on historical facts centering around England, France, or America regarding the forms or terms. These points are expected to be used as the foundational research data to develop the science and products.

Development of a Landslide Hazard Prediction Model using GIS (GIS를 이용한 산사태 위험지 판정 모델의 개발)

  • Based on the landslide hazard scoring system of Korea Forest Research Institute, a GIS model for predicting landslide hazards was developed. The risk of landslide hazards was analyzed as the function of 7 environmental site factors for the terrain, vegetation, and geological characteristics of the corresponding forest stand sites. Among the environmental factors, slope distance, relative height and shapes of slopes were interpreted using the forestland slope interpretation module developed by Chung et al. (2002). The program consists of three modules for managing spatial data, analyzing landslide hazard and report-writing, A performance test of the model showed that 72% of the total landslides in Youngin-Ansung landslides area took place in the highly vulnerable zones of grade 1 or 2 of the landslide hazard scoring map.

COMPARATIVE STUDY UPON THE CHARACTERISTICS OF WRITING BETWEEN THE PATIENTS WITH WRITING DISABILITIES AND NORMAL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS (쓰기 장애 환자와 정상 초등학교 학생의 쓰기 특성 비교)

  • Characteristics of handwriting were investigated and compared between the patients with writing disabilities and normal elementary school pupils. Generally, the heights of the letters of the patients were significantly larger than those of normal children, and letters of the patients were more sparsely distributed than those of controls. The distance between the words were significantly reduced in the patients’ writings, which indicated that patients had much more problems of space-leaving than normal pupils. Letter heights differences were significant across all grades in the patients and normal controls. The heights of the letters decreased as they grew older, and the slope of the decrements were more steeper in normal girls(r=-0.45) than girls with writing disabilities(r=-0.16). Sex differences were found in the letter spacings in low grades(grades 1, 2), that is, the distances between the letters were significantly narrower in the male patients than normal boys in these grades, and the differences were almost indiscriminating in grades 3 through 5, and finally, in sixth grade, letter spacings were signifycantly broader in normal boys than male dysgraphics. In girls, letter spacings were significantly broader in the patients across all grades. These findings supports the hypothesis that male and female writings were qualitatively different and that distinct mechanisms served in boys and girls dysgraphics. Across all grades and sexes, spaces between the words of the patients were significantly broader than normal pupils, which suggested that space-leaving between the words was important in Korean writings. There was trend that letter spacings and word spacings decreased across grades, but in girls, no correlations between the letter spacings and grades were found. Correlation analyses revealed that letter heights and letter spacings had mild correlation(r=0.11-0.15), and that letter spacings and word spacings had robust correlation(r=0.99). Phonological errors were mostly found in last phoneme(Jong-seong), especially double-phoneme(ㄳ, ㄵ, ㄶ, ㄺ, ㄻ, ㄼ, ㄾ, ㄿ, ㅀ, ㅄ), and in the case the sound values changed due to assimilations of phonemes. Semantic errors were rare in both groups. Space-leaving errors were correlated with phonological errors, and more frequent in boys than girls. In conclusion, significant differences existed in the letter heights, letter spacings, word spacings, and frequencies of phonological errors and spaceleaving errors between the patients with writing disabilities and normal pupils. The characteristics of writings changed across grades and the developmental profiles were somewhat quantitatively different between the groups. The differences became obvious from the second-third grades.

A study on the graphology in Korean based on relationship with personality types (한글에 대한 필적분석과 성격유형과의 관계성에 대한 연구)

  • The effort for identifying personal information for example one's personality, based on one's handwriting has been continued in foreign countries, however, there is no research on the graphology for Korean in Korea. In the area of handwriting analysis, of course, they have made attempts to identifying people depended on expert's individual ability or judgment. For these reasons, the academic approach is needed for the graphology for Korean. In this thesis, we performed the frequency analysis, test of difference, cross tabulation analysis, factor analysis, correlation analysis, regression analysis and logistic regression analysis by using the data on the test of personality diagnosis based on 5 factors method and writing habits such as the size and slope of letters for 339 adults. It can be shown that the 5 factors method has high consistency and reliability, so we accept these 5 factors as the personalities. In cross tabulation analysis, it is found that there is significant relationship between sex and the size of letters, hometown and the margin, job and habit. The correlations between 5 factors are very high and we can find the useful relationships between 5 factors and writing habit through regression analysis and correlation analysis. It is difficult and impossible to compare the Graphology between English and Korean because there are various interpretations and structures of Korean that is much different from those of English. But it is very important to try to test and analyze the Graphology in Korean to found the basic theories at the present stage when there is no research on the graphology for Korean.

  • Analysis frame for undergraduate physics laboratory reports in collecting, processing, and analyzing data was developed. Using the frame and questionaries, we analyzed what difficulties students have in the concepts of error and uncertainty in writing laboratory reports. Students considered repetitive measurement for collecting data, but they didn't express it distinctly in their reports. They also had difficulties in measuring data around the extreme value or the large slope. Especially, most students have had difficulties with error and uncertainty. They can't apply the basic formulation to propagation of error and uncertainty. They also had the difficulties in analyzing data with concepts of error and uncertainty. While most students responded that error and uncertainty is important, there were few students who analyzed the influence of the cause of error on the results quantitatively. The result of the study showed that students have difficulties in writing the laboratory reports because they didn't have the correct concept of the error and uncertainty. So, it is needed to not only teach the physics concept about experiment but to teach basic concept of data collecting, processing, and analyzing specially about error and uncertainty for students as well.

Development of the Surface Forest Fire Behavior Prediction Model Using GIS (GIS를 이용한 지표화 확산예측모델의 개발)

  • In this study, a GIS model to simulate the behavior of surface forest fires was developed on the basis of forest fire growth prediction algorithm. This model consists of three modules for data-handling, simulation and report writing. The data-handling module was designed to interpret such forest fire environment factors as terrain, fuel and weather and provide sets of data required in analyzing fire behavior. The simulation module simulates the fire and determines spread velocity, fire intensity and burnt area over time associated with terrain slope, wind, effective humidity and such fuel condition factors as fuel depth, fuel loading and moisture content for fire extinction. The module is equipped with the functions to infer the fuel condition factors from the information extracted from digital vegetation map sand the fuel moisture from the weather conditions including effective humidity, maximum temperature, precipitation and hourly irradiation. The report writer has the function to provide results of a series of analyses for fire prediction. A performance test of the model with the 2002 Chungyang forest fire showed the predictive accuracy of 61% in spread rate.

A Study on the Space Organization and Garden Language of Mongsimjae in Namwon (남원 몽심재(夢心齋)의 정원구성과 조형언어 해석)

  • In this study, the characteristics of Mongsimjae in Namwon-si, Jeollabuk-do have been researched focusing on the writings engraved in huge stones and rocks of pavilion standing beside a lotus pond and its formative languages in the garden has been interpreted as follows. Name of pavilion(堂號) Mongsimjae(夢心齋) includes a classical scholar's spirit, refusing to serve two kings and homecoming after resignation from a government office(歸去來) of Songam(松菴) Park Moonsu(朴門壽), an ancestor who has brought to the Juksan(竹山) Park's family again. A pavilion standing beside a lotus pond(蓮塘) built in the reception garden is a gardening facility symbolizing 'Yeondang(蓮堂)' Park Dongsik(朴東式) who built Mongsimjae. The bamboo hill connected to the backyard seems to be relevant to 'Juksan', the family clan of Mongsimjae's owner and this kinds of intention can be found in the bamboos in the outer garden naturally led to inside the garden through the flower beds. The purpose for the western arrangement of the main building and gate contrary to the 'chukjwamihyaug'(丑坐未向; a direction toward to the south-southwest) of the prospect of Sarangchae(guesthouse) is interpreted to naturally attract people's eyes to the pavilion standing beside a lotus pond and to mitigate the sense of closure resulting from the huge stones located in the reception garden. Also the writing engraved in the three huge stones, 'Jonsimdae(存心臺)', implies that it is a place where was selected with heart by Juksan Park family who settled down in Homsil, Namwon after 'Haengchon(杏村) Park Jaryang(朴子良)' in Yiphyangjo(入鄕祖), Namwon and 'Jeongwa(靖窩)' is interpreted as a signature representing that it is the most comfortable house where Jeongwa Park Haechang(朴海昌: 1876~1933), the third owner of Mongsimjae, has lived. The pavilion standing beside a lotus pond of the 'Bangjibangdo(方池方島; square pond and square island)' type has no lotus for now and waterside cornerstones roughly piled with broken stones naturally mitigate the slope. There are two water inflows gathering rainwater in the reception garden other than the water inflow of valley and the upper-side water inflow was built using a high waterfall method. The middle island cut into a square was designed to use in two ways, as 'island' or 'steppingstone', according to the water level and the old name of the pavilion standing beside a lotus pond was revealed as 'Cheonundam(天雲潭)' from the engraved writing located in the side of the middle island. In addition, 'Imni(臨履)', engraved writing in the finishing stone of waterside by citing a line of 'Sigyeong(詩經)', implies 'Be a upright classical scholar who pays close attention to one's own behaviors' and 'Jeongchuk(渟?)' is interpreted as a message that desires the eternal staying of the Juksan Park family's wealth. Ultimately, the writings engraved in the huge stones and rocks of the pavilion standing beside a lotus pond are interpreted as a symbol language that wishes the heaven protects and maintains the wealth of the Juksan Park family who is the owner of Mongsimjae.
