In this paper, the multi feature extraction algorithm for estimation of wrist movements based on Electromyogram(EMG) is proposed. For the extraction of precise features from the EMG signals, the difference absolute mean value(DAMV), the mean absolute value(MAV), the root mean square(RMS) and the difference absolute standard deviation value(DASDV) to consider amplitude characteristic of EMG signals are used. We figure out a more accurate feature-set by combination of two features out of these, because of multi feature extraction algorithm is more precise than single feature method. Also, for the motion classification based on EMG, the linear discriminant analysis(LDA), the quadratic discriminant analysis(QDA) and k-nearest neighbor(k-NN) are used. We implemented a test targeting twenty adult male to identify the accuracy of EMG pattern classification of wrist movements such as up, down, right, left and rest. As a result of our study, the LDA, QDA and k-NN classification method using feature-set with MAV and DASDV showed respectively 87.59%, 89.06%, 91.75% accuracy.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the kinematics variables of upper limb joint during forehand stroke by swings patterns. Eight high school tennis players were chosen for the study, who have never been injured for last six months, in Busan. They performed horizontal swing and vertical swing that it was done each five consecutive trial in the condition of square, semi-open and open stance. It was filmed by 6 video camera and used with 3-dimensional motion analyzer system. The following kinematic variables were analyzed in relation to angle of joint(shoulder, elbow and wrist joint). The conclusion were as follow: 1. The angle of right shoulder joint represented all event that both swing were shown similar pattern in swing type and stance pattern. 2. All event in the angle of elbow joint had consistent with that except E2, horizontal and vertical swings in square stance. 3. All event in the angle of wrist joint was show to similar pattern except E2, horizontal and vertical swing in open stance.
The purpose of this study was to present the basic data on improving the skills for 3 junior high school national badminton players in clear and drop motion through the 3-dimensional image analysis. Therefore, the results of this study are as follows: 1. In the duration times per phase, subject C relatively showed a similar time between clear and drop motion. Accordingly, C took a more effective motion than A and B. 2. In the velocities of racket head, subject A and C showed similar changes relatively. However, in case of subject B, the velocity was decreased before back swing(E2) and increased until impact(E3). 3. Regardless of clear and drop motion, the changing phases of joint angle for wrist and elbow showed similar changes comparatively. 4. In the angles of upper body, clear motion was average 85.0 degree and drop one was average 80.7 degree during the impact(E3). Hence, it showed that drop motion hit the ball bowing the upper body more than clear one. 5. In the angles of racket head, clear motion was average 87.7 degree and drop one was average 85.6 degree during the impact(E3). Consequently, drop motion was impacted forward more than clear one.
The human arm is modeled by three rigid bodies(the upper arm, the forearm and the hand)with seven degree of freedom(three in the shoulder, two in the elbow and two in the wrist). The objective of this work is to present a method to determine the three-dimensional kinematics of the human elbow joint using a magnetic tracking device. Euler angle were used to determine the elbow flexion-extension, and the pronation-supination. The elbow motion for the various driving conditions is measured through the driving test using a simulator. Discomfort levels of elbow joint motions were obtained as discomfort functions, which were based on subjects' perceived discomfort level estimated by magnitude estimation. The results showed that the discomfort posture of elbow joint motions occurred in the driving motion.
Objective: The purpose of this study is to assess the reducing effect of workload on developed electro-motion scissors. Methods: To achieve this, we measured the pressure distribution, Joint angle of fingers and JSI(Job Strain Index) for electro-motion scissors and hand-operated scissor in objective assessment and surveyed the uncomfortable degree in subjective assessment. Results: As a result, The peak of pressure in the electro-motion scissors was generally lower than the hand-operated scissors. JSI and overall joint angle of fingers for the electro-motion scissors were remarkably lower than the hand-operated scissors. Also, the subjective uncomfortable degree showed that the uncomfortable point of electro-motion scissors were generally lower than the hand operated scissors. Conclusion: The impact of reducing the work load as well as distributing the pressure around the hand by using electro-motion scissors during grapes pinching was confirmed.

In order for a robot to carry out a precise assembly task with compliant motion, a force/torque sensor is needed. The output of the cross-bar structured force / torque sensor which is used in a peg-in-hole insertion task and attached to a SCARA type robot, is analzed. First, the relationship between the sensor outputs and the force / torque components obtained by the outputs is investigated. Second, in a peg-in-hole insertion task, the sensor outputs changing with the contact position of the peg and the hole, are analyzed. Also, the relative position of the peg and the hole is obtained from the sensor outputs. The peg-in-hole insertion task is successfully executed, using a SCARA type robot with a wrist force / torque sensor manufactured in our laboratory and the compliance algorithm from the results of this paper.

To clarify the motion characteristics of free-style Okinawan dance“Kachaasi”, first the subjective impression was quantitatively evaluated with semantic differential technique to cluster its types. Then, the contingency of joint rotation in shoulder, elbow and wrist joints was examined with multivariate autoregressive model. The time-series data of positions and angels of three joints were calculated according to the deforming conditions and shielding directions of the ring lights. As the results, in an excellent dancer, the motions of shoulder and elbow were highly synchronized and smoothly controlled. The low-frequency output of the shoulder and elbow were mutually interacted. Meanwhile, the wrist behaved independently of other joints' rotation.

Measuring the heart rate during exercise is important to properly control the amount of exercise. With the recent advent of smart device usage, there is a dramatic increase in interest in devices for the real-time measurement of the heart rate during exercise. During intensive exercise, accurate heart rate estimation from wrist-type photoplethysmography (PPG) signals is a very difficult problem due to motion artifact (MA). In this study, we propose an efficient algorithm for an accurate estimation of the heart rate from wrist-type PPG signals. For the twelve data sets, the proposed algorithm achieves the average absolute error of 1.38 beat per minute (BPM) and the Pearson correlation between the estimates and the ground-truth of heart rate was 0.9922. The proposed algorithm presents the strengths in an accurate estimation together with a fast computation speed, which is attractive in application to wearable devices.
This study was conducted to analyze the factors affected morbidity for beauty artists of the limited range of motion about cerviacl, shoulder and wrist, from July 15 through August 30, 2000. Questionnaires were distributed to 373 beauty artists working in beauty shops of Taegu city. The factors included general characteristics, working conditions, life style and regular diagnosis of subject. The data collected were analyzed by SPSS program and the results of this study are summarized as follows; By the marital status, 224(86.5%) out of 259 unmarried beauty artists had the complaint of a neck(P〉0.05), and by the status of education, the complaint rate of a shoulder of beauty artists who graduated university(92.9%) is the highest(P〈0.01). In survey of complaint rates of symptom by the sleeping place, 324(86.7) out of 373 subjects had the pain in shoulder(P〈0.01), specially, beauty artists who are sleeping in bed complained the pain in shoulder more the others, in survey of complaint rates of symptom by sleeping pose, there was the significant different in neck(P〈0.01) and shoulder(P〈0.001). In survey of complaint rates of symptom by regular diagnosis, 61(85.9%) out of 71 beauty artists who took regular diagnosis and 263(87.4%) out of 302 beauty artists who didn't take regular diagnosis(P〈0.05). In conclusion, beauty artists who are on their feet for long time by official trait complaint the pain in neck and shoulder mainly. This result occurs from complex action of general characteristics and work condition and so on. In order to promote the health of beauty artists, there are needs for moderate exercise and regular diagnosis.
This paper proposes a kinect-based human motion recognition model for the 3D contents control after tracking the human body gesture through the camera in the infrared kinect project. The proposed human motion model in this paper computes the distance variation of the body movement from shoulder to right and left hand, wrist, arm, and elbow. The human motion model is classified into the movement directions such as the left movement, right movement, up, down, enlargement, downsizing. and selection. The proposed kinect-based human motion recognition model is very natural and low cost compared to other contact type gesture recognition technologies and device based gesture technologies with the expensive hardware system.
