  • A worm screw is widely used in a geared motor unit for motion conversion from rotation to linear. For mass production of a high quality worm, the current rolling process is substituted with the milling process. Since the milling process enables the integration of all operations of worm manufacturing on a CNC(Computer Numerical Control) lathe, productivity can be remarkably improved. In this study, the tooling system for planetary milling on a CNC lathe to improve machinability is developed. However, the cutting tool-workpiece interference is important factors to be considered for producing high quality worms. For adaptability of various worms machining, the tool-workpiece interference simulation system based on a tool-tip trajectory model is developed. The developed simulation system is verified through several kinds of worms and experimental results.

  • The effects of earthworm casts as a plant growth media on the growth of orchardgrass seedlings and the changes of physico-chemical properties in worm casts mixture soils were investigated during the growth period of 1998. Worm casts were mixtured with vermiculite, perlite and peat moss, and mixture ratios of worm casts with commercial recommended soil were 100:0(control), 75:25, 50:50, 25:75, and 0:100, respectively. The results were obtained as follows; 1. Plant length(PL) was increased in higher mixture ratios of worm casts and peat moss than those of other mixture ratios of commercial recommended soils. 2. Number of tillers(NT) were significantly increased in mixture ratios of worm casts and peat moss(50:50) and 100% of vermiculite. 3. Root length(RL) was significantly differences between mixture ratios at the worm casts, and the highest value was obtained at all mixture ratios of worm casts and perlite. 4. Dry weight of leaf(LW) was not significantly differences at mixture ratios of 50:50 in all treatments. Especially, between the mixture ratios of worm casts with peatmoss(25:75) and peat moss(75:25) were not significantly differences in dry weight of leaf(LW). The highest value of dry weight of leaf(LW) was obtained at mixture ratios of peat moss and worm casts. 5. Dry weight of tillers(SW) was not significantly differences at mixture ratios of 50:50 in all treatments, and peat moss(75:25) and vermiculite(75:25), respectively. 6. biological yield(BY) at all treatments were increased by yield components of dry weight of tillers(SW), dry weight of root(RW) and length of root(RL). 7. The biological yield of orchardgrass seedlings was greatly increased with mixture ratios of worm casts and peat moss over the 50%.

The results were as follows : The amount of glucose was slightly decreased (P < 0.05) in the B CL.D+SWP groups compared with the control. The amount of glucose was significantly decreased (P < 0.01) in the BCL.D groups compared with the control. The amount of Creatinine did not show any differences among three groups. The amount of blood urea nitrogen observed significant decrease in the case of BCL.D groups. The amount of GPT did not show any differences among three groups. The intense of insulin-immunoreactivity of β cells showed the strongest in the normal group, and more strong in the BCL.D+SWP group compared with control group.

  • This paper is about vision system that exhibits automatic examination of the conditions of shaft's worm. The system is composed of three part : image acquisition, vision algorithm, and user interface. The image acquisition part is composed of motor control, illumination and optics. The vision algorithm examines the parts by labeling algorithm using shaft image. User interface is divided into two parts, user interface for feature registering with control value settings and user interface for examination operation. The automatic inspection system of this research is a tool for final examination of shaft worm. This tool can be practically used in production lines with simple adjustments.

  • The outlet feeder pipe thinning in a PHWR (Pressurized Heavy Water Reactor) is caused by a high pressure steam flow inside the pipe, which is a well known degradation mechanism called a FAC (Flow Assisted Corrosion). In order to monitor the degradation, the thickness of the outlet bends close to the exit of the pressure tube should be measured and analyzed at every official overhaul. This paper describes a mobile feeder pipe inspection robot that can minimize the irradiation dose to human workers by automating the measurement process. The robot can move by itself on the feeder pipe by using an inch worm mechanism, which is constructed by two gripper bodies that can fix the robot body on to the pipe, one extendable and contractible actuator, and a rotation actuator connected to the two gripper bodies to move forward and backward, and to rotate in a circumferential direction.

  • In this paper, we propose the generation of a double enveloping worm thread profile with a non-developable ruled surface. Thread surface machining cuts all the way from the tip to the tooth root at one time, like full-face contact machining, rather than cutting several times like point machining. This cutting can reduce the cutting duration and achieve the smooth surface that does not require a grinding process for the threaded surface. The mathematical model of the cutting process was developed from theoretical equations, and the tooth surface was generated using two parameters and modeled in the CATIA using the generated Excel data. Additionally, the machining process of the worm was simulated in a numerical control simulation system. To verify the validity of the proposed method, the deviation between the modeling and the workpiece was measured using a 3D measuring machine.

  • This study was performed to evaluate the quality change of pork patties containing silkworm powder and vegetable worm (Paecilomycis japonica) stored for 9 days at $5^{\circ}C$. pH values were higher in treatment groups than that in controls by storage day 6. L (lightness) and a (redness) value were decreased with increasing addition of silkworm powder and vegetable worm powder in pork patties (p<0.05). However, b value (yellowness) was increased with increasing addition amounts of the silkworm powder and the vegetable worm powder (p<0.05). Water holding capacity (WHC) of pork patties was not affected by the silkworm powder and the vegetable worm powder, while pork patties containing 0.4% silkworm powder (T2) showed low cooking loss (p<0.05). Pork patties containing either silkworm powder and vegetable worm alone or a combination of them showed lower lipid oxidation value than that of control (p<0.05). Sensory preference of pork patties was decreased with increased of storage days. The overall acceptance was higher in treatment groups than at control groups at the initial day (p<0.05), yet no significant difference was found during storage. From these results, 0.4% silkworm powder decreased not only cooking loss but also lipid oxidation of pork patties. Also, no adverse effect was found in water holding capacity (WHC) and sensory preference of pork patties. Therefore, the silkworm powder and the vegetable worm powder could be useful to pork meat product industry as additives.

  • The security systems using signatures cannot protect servers from new types of Internet worms. To protect servers from Internet worms, this paper proposes a system removing malicious processes and executable files without using signatures. The proposed system consists of control servers which offer the same services as those on protected servers, and agents which are installed on the protected servers. When a control server detects multicasting attacks of Internet worm, it sends information about the attacks to an agent. The agent kills malicious processes and removes executable files with this information. Because the proposed system do not use signatures, it can respond to new types of Internet worms effectively. When the proposed system is integrated with legacy security systems, the security of the protected server will be further enhanced.
