The Effect of Leadership Style on Organizational Commitment and Employee Performance: An Empirical Study from Indonesia

  • This study aims to: 1) analyze the effect of leadership style on job satisfaction and organizational commitment, 2) analyze the effect of leadership style, job satisfaction and organizational commitment on employee performance, 3) examine the indirect effect of leadership style on employee performance mediated by job satisfaction and organizational commitment. The population of this research is all employees who have structural positions totaling 95 respondents. The sample was selected using the census technique, resulting in a total of 95 respondents in the research sample. Methods of data collection was using a questionnaire. The research model is structural so that the research data is analyzed using SEM Smart PLS 2. Research results: 1) leadership style has a positive and significant effect on job satisfaction and organizational commitment, 2) leadership style, job satisfaction, and organizational commitment have a positive and significant effect on employee performance, 3) Job satisfaction and organizational commitment mediates the influence of leadership style on employee performance, and has a positive and significant effect. Indirect influence gives stronger results than direct influence. As a result, it is hoped that university leadership will use an effective leadership style and pay attention to employee work satisfaction and commitment to boost employee performance.

A Study on Health Status by THI Health Index and Life-Style among Workers in an Industry (근로자의 생활습관이 THI에 의한 건강상태에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구)

  • This study had been carried out to analyze the relationship among the personal variables, the variales of life style and physical and mental health status of workers. In order to analyze the influence of industrial worker's life-style on physical and mental health status of workers, explore the relaionship between healh status and their life-style. Special interest in this study was the assesment of worker's physical and mental health status measured by the Todai Health Index(THI)-a self-adminstered health stutus screening instrument developed by a University of and Gumma research team. Data were collected from an industry of 1,495 workers at city of Chang Won in Korea. 1. The young age group especially the group who had short work duraion less than two years had high THI scores which were statistically significant. 2. A worker who followed 6∼7 good life style scores were found to be associated with better health status than those who followed 0-3 bad life style scores in most of all dimensions of physical and mental health scales of THI. 3. According to the multiple regression analysis, the variable of life style scores had the greatest influence on physical and mental health status of industrial workers. The variable of age, duration of work, and life style were included in the regression model(R²= 18.8).

A Study on the Ancient Fibulae

  • Fibulae have been used as clothing fasteners throughout history. They were especially popular with the Celts, but were also used by the Greeks, Romans, Saxons, and Vikings, to name a few. The earliest examples are found in the Mediterranean and Middle East, and date from 800 B. C. and earlier. Their use continues today, in the form of the modern safety pin. The first fibulae of the Bronze Age were very simple, much like modern safety pins. The form of this small functional object varies from simple to extravagant since it is also seen as a piece of jewelry, and is thus subject to the evolution of style. Its size depends on the thick/Jess of the clothing to be attached. Its fabrication demonstrates a great mastery of metal work. Fibulae would vary with the taste and wealth of the wearer. The Fibulae were divided into 10 styles according to the shape, Fibulae with Safety pin shaped style, Penannular shaped style, Animal shaped style, Diamond shaped style, Radiated head shaped style, Horsefly shaped style, Arched bow shaped style, Fan-shaped style, Trumpet shaped style, Arched-fan shaped style.

Effects of Using convenient Tool (put- on - style - stool) on Farm Worker′s Physiological Responses (농작업자의 생리반응으로 본 착용식 의자의 활용 효과)

  • In this study we tried to examine the efficiency of the agricultural convenient tool (put-on-style-stool) by observing subjects'physiological responses. For this we measured subjects' heart rate, oxygen consumption, blood lactate level, mean skin temperature and rectal temperature. The results of this study are as follows; Heart rate was 75$\pm$2 beats/min with the put-on-style-stool and 78$\pm$2 beats/min without it (P<0.01). Oxygen consumption was 3.88$\pm$1.90 $m\ell$/kg/min with the Put-on-style-stool and 5. 06$\pm$0.40 $m\ell$/kg/min without it (P<0.05). Blood lactate level was 2.39$\pm$0.64 mmol with the put-on-style-stool and 3.38$\pm$0.45 mmol without it (P<0.05). Mean skin temperature was lower but rectal temperature was higher with than without the put- on - style - stool (P<0.05 and P<0.01 respectively) So, using the put-on-style-stool was evaluated positively in farmer's work.

Variations in Childcare Style and Work-Family Conflict Related to Extended Working Hours: Focusing on Employed Mothers of Preschoolers or Elementary-School Children (연장근로에 따른 아동돌봄 형태와 일 가족 갈등: 초등학생 이하 자녀를 둔 취업모를 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate whether employed mothers' extended working hours have effects on childcare style and work-family conflicts. The data came from the 2007 Korean Longitudinal Survey of Women and Family(KLoWF) of the Korean Women's Development Institute. 475 females with preschoolers or elementary-school children were used in this study. The major findings can be summarized as follows: (1) Weekly average working hours varied by education, salary, and the presence of preschoolers. (2) The time of childcare was significantly shorter in mothers who work more than 50 hours/week (3) Mothers who worked more than 50 hours/week felt significantly high work-family conflict. These analyses pointed to the importance of obeying the law related to working hours as the most important thing to sustain work-family balance. Institutional foundations should be enabled to keep legal working hours.

Status and Perspectives of Preplacement Health Examination (PHE) at Certain Workplaces (일부 사업장에서 나타난 배치전건강진단 제도 현황과 향후과제)

  • Introduction: Preplacement health examination (PHE) is performed when a worker starts a certain work task which is designated as having occupational risks by the Ministry of Employment and Labor (MOEL). All data related to health examination except PHE are reported to the MOEL by the law. This study has been performed to understand the status of PHE at certain workplaces. Methods: PHE data gathered in a university hospital were analyzed and they were followed with results of the special health examination (SHE) in 2019 and 2020. Those who were evaluated as unfit to work as it was, were interviewed directly or indirectly through an occupational health manager to follow up the management status of their recognized health problems. Results: The unfit to work (unFTW) rate of PHE was 2.8%, and was not different according to the size of workplace or having occupational health service. The major cause of unfit to work was the uncontrolled life-style diseases such as hypertension and diabetes. The rate of SHE followed by PHE was 31.1%. It was not different by the unFTW rates, however, they were different according to having a full time in-house occupational health manager. Thirty-one among 71 examinees who were evaluated as unFTW underwent SHE after controlling their health condition and were finally evaluated as fit to work. Nineteen among 31 started to take medicine and eight have been placed in the work without designated risks. Conclusion: PHE can be used for new workers, who may have unknown or uncontrolled life-style diseases, to be asked to manage life-style diseases as well as work-related risks such as shift work. In order to have a better tracking system for work-related risks, the information of PHE should be analyzed together with other data from health examination.

A Study on the Expression Elements of Fashion Styles according to the Pursuit Image Types of the Male Office Worker (직장남성의 추구이미지에 따른 패션스타일 표현요소 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to derive the type of image pursued by men at work and to present the fashion style element as a method of expressing the image to be pursued. The was carried out by deriving the types of seeking images of men at work through literature research and questionnaire on seeking images and analyzing cases through FGI. The results of the study on fashion style elements for each type of image pursued are as follows. First, the reliable image appeared a gentle and formal fashion style, and colors and items were identified as the main elements of expression. Second, the refined image appeared in a chic and dandy fashion style, and colors, fabrics and items reflecting trends were identified as the main elements of expression. Third, the neat image was identified as a simple and minimal fashion style, and details, fabrics, and colors were identified as the main elements of expression. Fourth, the luxurious image was found to have an intellectual feeling in a classic fashion style, and color and material are the main elements of expression. Fifth, the dignified image appeared in a fashion style that was well-dressed and felt classy and heavy, and colors, patterns, and items were identified as the main elements of expression. Sixth, the energetic image emerged as a business casual style, except sporty or active functional styles, with overall comfortable and cheerful feeling, fit, color, and items were noted as the main elements of expression.

A study on workstation design and preference based on work-style (업무유형에 따른 워크스테이션 선호도에 관한 연구)

  • An office is understood as a system consisted of three subsystem : office work, technology and organization. In the age of information, an office is a complicated device in an organization to create, process, modify and deliver various information for organizational goals. The purpose of this study is to provide design guidelines on office workstations based on the analysis of employees' preference and work-style responding to current changes of an organization and work process. Through a literature survey, the study briefly reviewed characteristics of interior design to find changing factors and directions of office interior. Work characteristics in an office are analyzed based on information, activity and communication characteristics while office environment is analyzed based on physical and technological factors. Finally, questionnaire items are derived from a critical comparison between work characteristics and workstation organization(furniture etc) factor. workplace strategies by preference are suggested to increase office productivity, employee satisfaction and to reduce space costs.

  • The aim of this study is classify knowledge work style management for knowledge management. It is based on the knowledge creation model of Nonaka by subdividing types of knowledge workers. It was designed to create a model for application to the actual environment of management. Nonaka suggested the process of socialization, externalization, combination, internalization that the knowledge of a person creates new knowledge through the interaction of implicit knowledge and explicit knowledge. This research demonstrated that knowledge worker of 16 forms by applying SECI model to the main function and the subordinate functions again. This study aims at achieving a higher outcome by applying the ability of existing knowledge worker to subdivided expert field efficiently. Suggested styles of knowledge worker in this research are classified into craftsman style, pragmatic style, combination style, developed style knowledge worker who creates knowledge by selecting socialization as the function and again by selecting externalization combination, internalization as subordinate functions. And they were classified into creation style, insight style, strategy style according to practical application worker and function which is selecting externalization as the main function and socialization as the subordinate functions. They were classified into future style, innovation style, analysis style, judgement style knowledge worker who are selecting combination as the main function and experiment style, intuition style, research style, learning style worker who are selecting internalization as the main function. They suggested the characteristics and cases of each type.

A Study on Street Fashion of Korean Youth in the 1900s (1990년대 한국 청소년의 스트리트패션 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the styles of street fashion in youth sub-culture which has the leading power of 1990's Korean fashion flow. This topic has been explored in documentary studies about the youth sub-culture and the background of street fashion. Then, it also continued to classify street fashion styles in order to grasp the meaning as a young fashion. The results of this study are as follows. Street fashio of Korean youth are composed of four styles. ; The first is a hip-hop style. The hip-hop of Korea is started by 'Taiji Boys' and their representative apperances are the big-baggy pants, the reversed cap, the thrown backpack. The second is a reggae style. It is formed by the singer 'Kim Gun Mo'. It features the primary color and the use of ethnic fabrics. The third is a kitch style. The kitch is definitely represented by the old, the childish and the satire appearances. It came up with the rock band 'pipiband'. The forth is a sporty style. It comes from 'basketball' and 'skateboarding' which the young people prefer. Its designs are applied from the back-number of players, the names of the teams, the stripes of active-feeling. Based on this study, I designed cloths with 3 concepts to present a new design direction of Street Fashion. Work 1, 「JOY-RIDE」 represented the freedom and the release which are shown by pop music and dance. Work 2, 「GAMMA ENERGY」 represented the dynamic energy through sports games. Work 3, 「AROUND THE CORNER」 represented the form of street including comers, walls, roads etc.
