Development of Machining System for Gouging of Nozzle Welded Area (압력용기 노즐 용접부 절삭 가우징 장치 개발)

  • Gouging is defined as the removal of weld metal and base metal from the opposite of a partially welded joint to facilitate complete joint penetration. Since the work by current method needs skillful welding and grinding, there is a limit on the increase of operation efficiency. Noise and dust from the weld gouging also deteriorate the work place and cause environmental problems. In this study, the gouging work by cutting method is proposed to overcome the defects from weld gouging such as low productivity, severe noise, dense dust, and so on. The developed cutting gouging system removes material as much as $13,565mm^3/min$, and enlarge the labor productivity as three times compared to that by weld gouging method.

  • To evaluate existence value of green area through industrial area worker's consciousness estimation, result that achieve is as following. According as green area amount of green area decreases, assessment about existence value of green area decreased. Environment that industrial complex worker can work in agreeable psychology need to increase green area in some form to be formed. Existence of green area enhances conscious value about visual improvement effect such as good environment, seasons change, and green quantity, and is judged that green area is exerting positive effect to consciousness regarding environment improvement effect such as cooling sensation, wind control, and noise decrease.

The Wearing Conditions of Working Clothes According to the Working Environment and Working Processes at Industry Sites -With Reference to Machinery, Automobiles, and the Shipbuilding Industry- (산업현장의 작업환경 및 공정에 따른 작업복 착의실태 -기계.자동차.조선업을 중심으로-)

  • This study examines the wearing conditions of working clothes according to the working environment and working processes at machinery, automobile, shipbuilding industry sites. It also investigates the relationship between the wearing sense of working clothes and the overall comfort according to work processes. The hazardous working environment was high in the order of the shipbuilding industry, machinery, and automobiles. The findings on the harmful overall work environmental factors were the noise, heavy dust, and noxious fumes, respectively. In general, the satisfaction with the wearing performance of working clothes was low especially with regard to sweat absorbency, sweat permeability, body protection and covering, and the work motion suitability. In respect of the correlation between the overall comfort and the wearing sense of working clothes, the satisfaction was decreased in the order of movement comfort, sensual comfort, and physiological comfort.

  • Polishing work for a curved surface die demands simple and repetitive operations and requires much time while it demands also high precision. Therefore it is operated by a skilled worker in handiwork. However the workers avoid gradually a polishing work because of the poor environmental conditions such as dust and noise. In order to reduce the polishing time and to alleviate the problem of shortage of skilled workers, an automatic polishing robot system which is composed of a polishing robot with two degrees of freedom motion and pneumatic system is developed, and it is attached to machining center with three degrees of freedom. The system keeps the polishing tool vertically on the surface of die and maintains constant pneumatic pressure. The polishing robot with DSP(digital signal processor) controller is controlled by sliding mode control. A synchronization between machining center and polishing robot is accomplished by using M code of machining center. A performance experiment for polishing work is executed by the developed automatic polishing robot system. The result shows that the developed automatic polishing robot has a good performance and well polished workpiece surface is obtained.

  • Due to the characteristics of ship structure, the compartment structure is complicated and narrow, so safety accidents frequently occur during the work process. The main causes of accidents include structural collisions, falling objects, toxic substance leaks, fires, explosions, asphyxiation, and more. Understanding the on-site conditions of workers during accidents is crucial for mitigating damages. In order to ensure safety, the on-site situation is monitored using CCTV in the ship, but it is difficult to prevent accidents with the existing method. To address this issue, a smart safety helmet equipped with location identification and voice/video communication capabilities is being developed as a safety technology. Additionally, the smart safety helmet incorporates environmental sensors for temperature, humidity, vibration, noise, tilt (gyro sensor), and gas detection within the work area. These sensors can notify workers wearing the smart safety helmet of hazardous situations. By utilizing the smart safety helmet and environmental sensors, the safety of workers aboard ships can be enhanced.

Evaluation of the Possession of Measurement and Analytical Instruments among Domestic Work Environment Monitoring Service Providers (I) (국내 작업환경측정기관의 측정 및 분석장비 보유실태에 대한 고찰 (I))

  • Objectives: The aim of this study is to analyze the current status of the possession of measurement and analytical instruments among work environment monitoring organizations that have been designated by the Ministry of Employment and Labor (MoEL) in Korea. Methods: Data for measurement and analytical instruments were gathered by inspectors who had been assigned by the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency (KOSHA) and MoEL during the evaluation program for designated work environment monitoring service providers in 2012. Data for 11 monitoring instruments and nine analytical instruments were collected from 108 organizations. Basic data such as the type of service provides and the size of employment were also recorded by the inspector. Results: The total number of personal air samplers including high and low flow rates operated in Korea was 5,418, with average of 50.2. Average operation number of noise dosimeters was 35.0, while 3,780 dosimeters were used in 108 work environment monitoring organizations. There were 10,488 monitoring instruments in total. All service providers possessed at least one AAS and GC in their analytical laboratory. Total number of HPLC/MS was five, followed by ICP/MS of seven, with an average of 0.07. Conclusions: Based on the data, domestic work environment monitoring service providers possessed relatively reasonable measurement and analytical instruments. Nearly all instruments had been imported from advanced countries such as USA, UK and Japan. Periodic gathering of data on these instruments may help maintain good workplace monitoring results and the health of workers at the sites.

Behavior Case Study of Temporary Structures during Underground Extension Work by Field Measurement (현장계측을 통한 지하증축공사 중 가설구조물의 거동 사례연구)

  • During the construction of underground space expansion of old facilities, it is necessary to secure temporary residence space for existing residents as well as noise and vibration issues during construction, and in the case of commercial, industrial, and social use, damage is expected from suspension of the use of facilities. There is a need for a technology that minimizes noise and vibration during underground expansion, enabling the use of existing facilities even during construction. In this study, a practical underground extension model is proposed by analyzing the behavior of the temporary structure and the surrounding ground as a result of measurement at each construction stage for a actual construction site. In order to solve the problems that occurred during construction, the basement slabs were placed in advance after the initial excavation. The measurement results (building inclinometer, crack measurement system, structure inclinometer and surface settlement meter) at the site were reviewed to analyze the behavior of the temporary structure and surrounding ground. As a result, it was confirmed that the inclinometer of the building and the structural inclinometer showed a tendency that the displacement after the slab line was placed was reduced or converged. The placement of basement slabs during underground extension not only relived the noise and vibration problems during construction, but also secured the stability of structures.

  • This paper presents experimental performance evaluation of a magnetorheological (MR) damper for integrated isolation mount for ultra-precision manufacturing system. The vibration sources of the ultra-precision manufacturing system can be classified as follows: the one is the environmental vibration from the floor and the other is the transient vibration occurred from stage moving. The transient vibration occurred from the stage moving has serious adverse effect to the process because the vibration scale is quite larger than other vibrations. Therefore in this research, a semi-active MR damper, which can control the transient vibration, is adopted. Also the stage needs to be isolated from tiny vibrations from the floor. For this purpose, a dry-frictionless MR damper is required. In order to achieve this goal, a novel type of MR damper is originally designed and manufactured in this work. Subsequently, the damping force characteristics of MR damper are evaluated by simulation and experiment. In addition, the vibration control performance of the MR damper associated with the stage mass is evaluated.

Spatially Mapped GCC Function Analysis for Multiple Source and Source Localization Method (공간좌표로 사상된 GCC 함수의 다 음원에 대한 해석과 음원 위치 추정 방법)

  • A variety of methods for sound source localization have been developed and applied to several applications such as noise detection system, surveillance system, teleconference system, robot auditory system and so on. In the previous work, we proposed the sound source localization using the spatially mapped GCC functions based on TDOA for robot auditory system. Performance of the proposed one for the noise effect and estimation resolution was verified with the real environmental experiment under the single source assumption. However, since multi-talker case is general in human-robot interaction, multiple source localization approaches are necessary. In this paper, the proposed localization method under the single source assumption is modified to be suitable for multiple source localization. When there are two sources which are correlated, the spatially mapped GCC function for localization has three peaks at the real source locations and imaginary source location. However if two sources are uncorrelated, that has only two peaks at the real source positions. Using these characteristics, we modify the proposed localization method for the multiple source cases. Experiments with human speeches in the real environment are carried out to evaluate the performance of the proposed method for multiple source localization. In the experiments, mean value of estimation error is about $1.4^{\circ}$ and percentage of multiple source localization is about 62% on average.
