Little research has been performed regarding auditory icons even though auditory icons have great potentials as a strategy for creating informative, intuitively accessible, and unobtrusive interface. Therefore, this study was conducted to design new auditory icons through the iconic mapping for ten most frequently used mobile phone menus, and to show the usability of auditory icons. Two most familiar auditory sounds for each menu were collected and compared to the current button-pressing sound. The results show that the newly designed auditory icons had shorter recognition times, better satisfaction than the current icons. In other words, auditory icons could be an effective interface to provide a redundant feedback along with visual feedbacks in navigating mobile devices.

Two experiments were carried out to compare the suitability in visual tasks between cathode-ray tube (CRT) and thin film transistor-liquid crystal display (TFT-LCD). In the first experiment, the subjects were requested to detect pre-assigned target words or icons among distracters presented under time-invariant (static) image mode. The subjects' visual performance and fatigue were assessed while carrying out search tasks with dim and bright ambient light conditions. Significant interaction effects were found among displays, task types, and ambient light conditions. Due to visual fatigue, the subjects' accommodative power decreased in the end of task and the degradation was more significant for the CRT users and under bright ambient light. IN the second experiment, the subjects performed information processing task with time-varying road signs at a driving simulator to assess interaction effects between display types and changing speed of dynamic image. The perception time using TFT-TCD was shorter under slow image change while that of CRT was shorter rapid image change. Findings from this study suggest that, to improve visual task performance, users should carefully select their visual display type depending on the task to be performed.

This study focuses on the Mise-en-abyme theories of Lucien $D{\ddot{a}}llenbach$, and presents research methodology to analyze the modern cinema costume in a new view. Inherent aesthetic values of the costume code shown in the film are as follows. First, esthetics value shown is the analogic code through the maximization of factual realism by directing target. Mise-en-abyme placed in this film plays the role of costume codes, and highlights the subject by presenting specifically targeted realistic icons to maximize the realism of the movie. Second, Mise-en-abyme is deployed to the explicit text through costumes code is placed as Displaced code arrangements. In other words, each of the characters is a signifier. Symbolizing a historical era is the device that represents a self-reflective signifier. Third, paradoxically reflected by the overlapped expansion of virtual reality and the self-referential characteristics and are subject to reflect the thinking of the author. Costumes code placed in Mise-en-abyme is expressed in costumes positioned to maximize the realism in the film as described above, and implies narratives and self-reflective mediating tools that symbolism can be seen that the paradoxical metaphor for the reality and the future. In addition, through the metaphor of visual narrative is allegorical representation Mise-en-abyme with ambiguity, and it is a concrete text that can be realized in a variety of creative storytelling methods and image delivery methods of modern fashion. This study confirmed that this costumes to take the point of view of emotional $Mise-en-sc{\grave{e}}ne$ in the process of completing the film's themes and cinematic devices by identifying the roles and aesthetic value of code costumes as the core subjects that make up the narrative of the film.

A midst the tendency in an attempt to rehabilitate the coexistence of values in Oriental and Western cultures, along with centripetal attention through reincarnation of the Oriental culture, the modem fashion trend is also inclusive of such Oriental flavors even in the opposite Western fashion icons with an outlook for futuristic alternative. In this regard the study is to investigate the Oriental Characteristics shown in the contemporary fashion in a more profound and right manner by evaluating its spirituality and formativeness through analytical survey on preliminary literatures, whose key words are as follows; Fist, heterogeneity inclusive of the Oriental comprehensiveness through non-periodic chaos; second, imperfection in pursue of perfection through non-perfection; third, asymmetry caused by polarized historicity together with agility in the Oriental costumes; fourth, simplicity bridging into religious naught, and; fifth, spatial comfortablity shrouded by loose design. As a result, the study demonstrates that Oriental sensitivity implicative at the modem fashion, prior to its formativeness, shed out a clue of the Oriental profound spirits in its fashion style.
