  • The purpose of this study was to compare ideal clothing and actual clothing behavior between Korean and Japanese college students. 185 Korean students and 91 Japanese students were used into data analysis from October to December. 2000. The age range was 18 to 28 years. The results were as followed. 1) Japanese students wanted to wear fitted clothing styles with revealing the body, while Koreans wanted to wear not only fitted styles but also relaxed and coved body styles. 2) Korean students wore more loose styles and fitted upper styles and pants than Japanese students. On the other hand, Japanese students wore fitted clothing styles and skirt. 3) Japanese students showed higher correlation between ideal clothing styles and actual clothing styles than Koreans. This means that although Koreans want to wear ideal styles, they don't wear those styles much. 4) Overweight students tended to avoid wearing fitted and revealed body styles, pursuing more loose and coved body styles. This tendency showed stronger to Koreans than Japanese students.

Results of the study are described as follows : Aesthetical senses shown in the Japanese traditional dressing dress for women included six factors in total, among which attractiveness was found as the main factor, followed by chastity. For the four types of the dress, its main factor while the remaining four types, were found having dignity as their main factors. adjective words which largely accounted for aesthetical senses included uncomfortable, unique, bright, dignity, classical, ornamental and beautiful, suggesting that the Japanese traditional wedding dress for women is somewhat unfunctional, high in dignity and aesthetic beauty. Aesthetical senses were most different according to nationality (Korea and Japan) when they were analyzed in terms of nationality, gender and whether of specialization or non-specialization.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify cross-cultural features among Korea, China, and Japan by comparing differences in facial awareness, attractiveness preferences, and consideration of facial parts in a group of Korean, Chinese, and Japanese men and women as they evaluated the faces of Korean women in their 20s. A survey was conducted targeting male and female Korean, Chinese, and Japanese college students in their 20s. Frequency analysis, ANOVA, Duncan test, factorial analysis, and reliability analysis, MANOVA were carried out using SPSS 18.0. The results of this study are as follows: Faces of Korean women in their 20s were evaluated by Korean, Chinese, and Japanese men and women in their 20s and were classified into four categories as 'Youthfulness', 'Classiness', 'Friendliness' and 'Activeness'. Differences in facial image awareness were observed depending on nationality and gender. Korean participants were found to place importance on overall morphological factors; The Japanese focused on the eyes; and the Chinese on the skin color. Women of all nationalities showed, on average, a higher awareness of facial parts than men. No significant differences in facial attractiveness preferences were found based on nationality or gender, but there were differences in how the participants evaluated faces for attractiveness, showing that reasons for preferences may vary even if the preferences are the same.

  • Background: Low-dose oral contraceptives (OC) were approved by the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare in 1999, yet despite their contraceptive and non-contraceptive health benefits, only 5% of the target population use them. Fear of increased cancer risk, particularly breast cancer, is one reason for this. Due to low OC uptake and low screening participation, a paucity of data is available on the risk of OC use and breast cancer in Japanese women. The present study investigated OC use and breast cancer risk, as well as menstrual, reproductive and family factors. Materials and Methods: This was a clinic-based case-control study of women aged 20-69yrs who had undergone breast screening between January 2007 and December 2013 in central Tokyo. In all, 28.8% of the participants had experience with OC use. Cases were 155 women with a pathologically confirmed diagnosis of breast cancer. Controls were the remaining 12,333 women. Results: Increased age was a significant risk factor for breast cancer (p<0.001). A lower risk was found in premenopausal women presently taking OC compared to never users (OR 0.45; 95% CI 0.22-0.90) after adjusting for age, parity and breast feeding, and a family history of breast cancer. Conclusions: Increased age rather than OC use had a greater effect on breast cancer risk. This risk may be decreased in premenopausal women with OC use, but further long-term prospective studies are necessary.

The obtained results are as follows. 1. On the whole. there was little difference in the score of life-style factors between Korea and Japan. The areas in which Japanese women got a higher score were personal relationship and nutrition, and Korean women got a higher score in the area of self-realization. 2. Both in Korea and Japan. the degree of satisfaction with family life proved to be the most influential factor on the life-styles for the health promotion of women. This implies that the level of their practicing life styles for the health promotion becomes higher in proportion to the degree of satisfaction with their family life. In conclusion. considering the fact that the proportion of women workers has been on the increase in Korea. heath promotion services for women need to be treated more importantly, with the focus on the interpersonal relationship not only in family but also in work sites.

  • The number of Asian women immigrants in Korea is getting bigger and it's important to note that their communication problem in Korean causes not only the difficulty of adapting to Korean society but their children's speech-language disorder. To date there is little research on their acoustics characters and articulatory errors. Therefore, this study focuses on acoustic characters and articulatory error patterns of the women immigrants from Japan and Philippine based on the theory of "contrastive analysis". The subjects were 16 Japanese women immigrants(age: 42.5$\pm$4.4) and 14 Philippine women immigrants(age: 31.64$\pm$6.7) and control group consisted of 10 Korean women(age: 28.3$\pm$1.2). Speech and hearing of all subjects and control group were within normal limits. Speech samples were analyzed in a computer using CSL and data analysis was done on FFT widow for F1, F2, F3 of vowels and on wideband spectrogram for VOT of plosives and africatives. The results of this study were like this; For Japanese women immigrants, they had different articulatory patterns of /e/, /a/, /u/, /o/, /$\varepsilon$/, /m/ from those of Koreans and showed articulatory errors on the fortis and aspirated sounds. The reason is Japanese has only two distinctive characters for plosives and affricates; voicing and voiceless. The Philippine women immigrants also showed the same error patterns as the Japanese women immigrants. Especially the errors on aspirated sounds were prominent because their mother tongue has no distinctive characters about aspirated sounds. For vowels, they showed errors of /a/, /o/, /c/.
