  • In this paper, a dual-band arc-shaped monopole antenna for WLAN(Wireless Local Area Networks) applications. The proposed antenna is based on CPW-fed structure, and composed of two-arc shaped of radiating patch and ground plane. To obtain the optimized parameters, we used the simulator, Ansoft's High Frequency Structure Simulator (HFSS) and found the parameters that greatly effect antenna characteristics. Using optimal parameters, the antenna is fabricated. The numerical and experiment results demonstrated that the propnosed antenna satisfied the -10 dB impedance bandwidth requirement while simultaneously covering the WLAN bands. And measured results of gain and radiation patterns characteristics displayed determined for opeating bands.

  • In this paper, the compact CPW-fed slot antenna for WLAN applications is proposed. While the proposed antenna with size of only $20{\times}18{\times}1mm^3$ is consisted of double stub and folded slot, the antenna for 2.4 GHz band and 5 GHz band is designed and fabricated with optimized parameters obtained by simulation. Proposed antenna is fabricated with FR-4 substrate to the thickness of 1.0 mm. By obtaining the measured return loss level of < -10 dB at dual-band, we showed that it is operated as antenna for WLAN applications, and then it is also expected to be usable as antenna for RFID.

  • The WLAN and WPAN systems employed on 2.4GHz ISM band wireless networks provide complementary services within the same environments. Coexistence between the networks will be impaired, if the mutual packets are uncertainty associated the timing or gaussian distance. This paper analyzes the impact of the mutual interference on the services performance and in order to minimize the effect of WPAN system signals on the WLAN system, proposed a method of suppressing the interference on the WLAN system. The analysis is illustrated by examining the symbol error rate versus signal to noise interference ratio in terms of the carrier frequency offset.

  • This paper presents a bandpass fitler of GPS and WLAN band based on LTCC. The structure of bandpass fitler consists of a Butterworth lowpass fitler and highpass filter using CRLH (Composite Right/Left-Handed) transmission line. Using green sheet with dielectric constant 7.2, we fabricated the bandpass filter that satisfied GPS and WLAN band characteristics. We are implemented the bandpass filter at center frequency 1.5 GHz (GPS) and 2.4 GHz (WLAN). Its insertion loss are 1.66 dB at GPS and 3.20 dB at WLAN respectively.

  • In this paper, we analyze and propose the Joint Call Admission Control(JCAC) scheme to combine network selection scheme and radio resource reservation based Call Admission Control(CAC) in LTE-WLAN heterogeneous networks. First, We propose the JCAC system that uses network decision rate to select a network for terminal and radio resource reservation scheme in overlaying LTE-WLAN network environment. And we analyze the performance of a proposed system using markov chain model. The performance is presented in terms of the new call blocking probability, handoff call dropping probability, and channel utilization of each network. As a performance result of the our research, the system using JCAC is better than the system using non-JCAC. We found a suitable resource reservation rate that is 10% in the system using JCAC. Our work may be useful as a guideline of resource reservation rate to introduce JCAC system using resource reservation scheme in overlaying LTE-WLAN network environment.

  • The rapid increase of mobile devices such as smart phone and smart pad have raised the needs for seamless multimedia services during moving at anytime and anywhere. Current 4G mobile devices are equipped with both 4G (LTE) and WLAN (WiFi) interfaces, and mobile services operators provide wireless Internet services using 4G network with a wider coverage and WiFi zone. Generally users prefer to use the Internet services through WLAN rather than LTE in the coverage of WLAN. However, since WLAN has a long L2 handover latency, it is difficult to support seamless services during a handover. In this paper, we proposed an efficient handover scheme based on flow mobility for WLANs to support a seamless service during handovers by using the overlaid 4G network with a wider coverage. Also, we showed the outperformance of the proposed scheme on a testbed.

  • Wireless local area network (WLAN) is a widely used wireless access method due to its easy usability and excellent performance. However, its performance degrades significantly as the number of users increases. In busy train stations, where the number of WLAN users are large and, more importantly the number of simultaneous packet transmission attempts is extremely large due to the time synchronization upon train arrival, the packet transmission delay problem is very severe and almost impossible for WLAN stations to initiate communication with WLAN networks. In this paper, a novel distributed WLAN access scheme for efficient WLAN communication in busy train stations is proposed. Using the proposed scheme, WLAN access delay can be significantly reduced under highly congested traffic environments. Therefore, a significant performance enhancement for the WLAN performance used in the Communication Based Train Control (CBTC) can be achieved.

  • This article presents several methods of mobile communication network to access technologies utilizing unlicensed spectrum interworking. Generic Access Network (GAN) technology was already specified in GERAN (GSM EDGE Radio Access Network) and Interworking WLAN (I-WLAN) was standardized for WCDMA system for WLAN user to access WCDMA packet based services through WLAN access point. Voice Call Continuity is not access network dependent technology but is a kind of domain change scheme for voice call from Circuit Switching (CS) network to IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) and vice versa.

  • For improved localization around the indoor/outdoor transit area of buildings, this paper proposes an efficient algorithm combining the measurements from the WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network) and the GPS (Global Positioning System) for. The proposed hybrid localization algorithm considers both multipath errors and NLOS (Non-Line-of-Sight) errors, which occur in most wireless localization systems. To detect and isolate multipath errors occurring in GPS measurements, the propose algorithm utilizes conventional multipath test statistics. To convert WLAN signal strength measurements to range estimates in the presence of NLOS errors, a simple and effective calibration algorithm is designed to compute conversion parameters. By selecting and combining the reliable GPS and WLAN measurements, the proposed hybrid localization algorithm provides more accurate location estimates. An experiment result demonstrates the performance of the proposed algorithm.

  • Recently, research and deployment have been very active on wireless mesh technologies. Wireless mesh networks extends the coverage of the WLAN easily and economically. Although existing protocols developed for MANET and WSN can be used for wireless mesh WLANs, considerable amount of research are still required, because they exhibit poor performance, when applied as they are, due to a few critically different requirements This paper examine research issues on physical and link layers of WLANs considering those requirements.
