  • Continuous on-line temperature monitoring allows corrective measures to be taken to prevent upcoming failure. Continuous temperature monitoring and event recording provides information on the energized equipment's response to normal and emergency conditions. On-line temperature monitoring helps to coordinate equipment specifications and ratings, determine the real limits of the monitored equipment and optimize facility operations. Using wireless technique eliminates any need for special cables and wires with lower installation costs if compared to other types of online condition monitoring equipment. In addition, wireless temperature monitoring works well under difficult conditions in strategically important locations. Wireless technology for on-line condition monitoring of energized equipment is applicable both as standalone system and with an interface with power quality monitoring system.

Analysis of dry friction hysteresis in a cable under uniform bending

  • A cable is considered as a system of helical wires and a core with distributed dry friction forces at their interfaces. Deformations of the cable subjected to a uniform bending are analyzed. It is shown that there is a critical bending curvature when a slip at the wire-core interface occurs. It originates at the neutral axis of the cross section of the cable and then spreads symmetrically over the cross section with the increase of bending. The effect of slippage on the cable stiffness is investigated. This model is also used to analyze a cable under the quasi-static cyclic bending. Explicit expression for the hysteretic losses per cycle of bending is derived. Numerical examples are given to show the influence of dry friction and helix angle on the bending stiffness and hysteretic losses in the cable.

  • A model of a cable comprising interacting wires with dry friction forces at the interfaces is subjected to a quasi-static cyclic loading. The first cycle of this process, comprising of axial loading, unloading and reloading is investigated analytically. Explicit load-elongation relationships are obtained for all of the above phases of the cycle. An expression for the hysteretic losses is also obtained in an explicit form. It is shown that losses are proportional to the third power of the amplitude of the oscillating axial force, and are in inverse proportion to the interwire friction forces. The results obtained are used to introduce a model of a cable as a solid rod with an equivalent stiffness and damping properties of the rod material. It is shown that the stiffness of the equivalent rod is weakly nonlinear, whereas the viscous damping coefficient is proportional to the amplitude of the oscillation. Some numerical results illustrating the effect of cable parameters on the losses are given.

  • The thesis here by shows that the extant suspension wire, which is stretched between electric poles to support a variety of communication wires, can be replaced by specially-redesigned cables called OPSW(Composite Suspension Wire with Optical Fiber) which have been devised for the first time in the world so that the functions of both communication and support can be united into one cable which is sure to be successfully installed on site, hence leading to outstanding effects that it can sharply reduce the load applied to electric poles as well as the cost of forthcoming constructions and that it can accordingly make a great contribution to the building of Smart Grid network.

  • According to the improvement of the HTS wires performance, several types of HTS superconducting machines, such as, transformer, motors, current limiters, and transmission cables are being developed. Degradation of the critical current in HTS tape owing to external field is very important subject in developing the HTS machines. Considering that stacked HTS tapes are widely used to develop the large HTS machines, the critical current characteristics of stacked HTS tapes in external field need to be examined. In this paper, we present critical current characteristics of 4-stacked HTS tapes which are exposed to the external field. HTS tape with critical current of 4-stacked HTS tape. Test results prove that four times critical current of single HTS tape is smaller than critical current of stacked HTS tape in high external field.

현수교 PPWS용 소켓의 내벽 경사각이 소켓의 극한 하중계수에 미치는 영향 (Effect of the Tapered Angle on the Ultimate Load Factors of PPWS Sockets in Main Cables of Suspension Bridges)

  • 현수교 PPWS용 소켓의 내벽 경사각에 따른 소켓의 극한 하중계수의 변화를 검토하였다. 소켓의 구조 및 설계법을 간략히 정리하였고, 스트랜드 내의 강선 본수와 소켓 내벽 경사각을 매개변수화 한 15개의 소켓 모델을 설계하여 유한요소 모델을 작성하였다. 작성된 소켓 해석모델이 실제 소켓의 거동을 반영할 수 있도록 실험 결과와 해석 결과를 비교하여 소켓의 유한요소 모델을 개선하였다. 소켓 해석 모델에 대하여 ABAQUS를 이용하여 하중-변위 해석을 수행하였고, 최초 항복 및 극한 상태에서 소켓의 거동을 분석하였다. 해석결과, 최대의 극한 하중계수를 갖는 소켓 내벽 경사각은 스트랜드 내의 강선 본수에 따라 달라짐을 알 수 있었다. 소켓 내벽의 최적 경사각은 현행 소켓 설계식의 필요 부착길이 검토식과 필요 응력저항길이 검토식의 경계가 되는 임계각에서 결정되었다.

토치 회전식 자동용접 시스템의 용접공정변수 최적선정 (Optimum-selection in the Welding Process Variable for Torch-rotation Method of Automation Welding-machine System)

  • The purpose of this welding process of the exclusive welding-machine using welding torch-rotation type is to develop a mechanism which can solve the problem of twisting of welding wires and cables. The technique was developed by revising the torch position and smooth controlling of both the normal and reverse rotation. Some of the advantages of using the torch-rotation type apply to the work-rotation technique are the practical uses of increased work space and link work with the factory automation system. Do apply the welding process, I designed and made a special unit so called torch part in order to solve the problems of kinematical. And I made a control panel which can manipulate the progress of the entire process at the work shop. Even if it will be applied to another kind of axle casing's welding work, this process can be utilized if other sizes of the fixed pin and work part is produced and changed. The development of this exclusive welding-machine could reduce the manpower of skilled welding labor and increase productivity and better quality product in comparison to the handmade product.
