A Design of Delta-Average Queue Management Method for Supporting QoS in Wireless Sensor Networks (무선 센서 네트워크에서 QoS 제공을 위한 Delta-Average 큐 관리 기법 설계)

  • Recently, the advances on sensor technology increases the study on data processing oriented middleware. Usually, most of middleware uses the naive and delta method for queue management to process data effectively. But such a queue management method it is difficult to support guaranteeing of the requested quality of services because it simply discards the data in a queue when the overflow is occurred. To handle this problem, some methods for minimizing data volumes in a wireless sensor network have been studied, but most of them cause another problem that needs the huge processing time additionally with higher complexity of the proposed algorithm. In this paper, we propose a new method of delta-average queue management by applying the mean value to the exiting delta queue management method using the data differences to handle the problem of queue overflow. The proposed method has lower complexity than the others and increases the QoS of a WSN application by using mean value instead of using data discarding policy. In addition, it is designed to manage a queue effectively by controlling the range of data differences adaptively to the target sensor network environment.

  • Internet-of-Things(IoT) is the computing paradigm converged with different technologies, where diverse devices are connected via the wireless network, acquire environmental information from their equipped sensors, and actuated. IoT applications typically provide smart services to users by interacting with multiple devices connected to the network and are designed by integrating multiple technologies such as sensor network, communication technologies, and software engineering. Moreover, since the concept of IoT has been introduced recently, most of the researches are in the beginning step, which is too early to be practically applied. Due to these facts, developing IoT application results in unconventional technical challenges which have not been observed in typical software applications. And, it is not straightforward to apply conventional project guidelines to IoT application development projects. Hence, there can be many difficulties to successfully complete the projects. Therefore, for successful completion of the projects, we analyze technical challenges occurring in all phases of the project lifecycle, i.e. project preparation stage and development stage. And, we propose the effective solutions to overcome the issues. To verify identified issues and presented solutions, we present the result of applying the solutions to an IoT application development. Through the case study, we evaluate how reasonable the unconventional technical issues are generated and analyze effectiveness of applying the solutions to the application.

3G+ CDMA Wireless Network Technology Evolution: Application service QoS Performance Study (3G+ CDMA망에서의 기술 진화: 응용 서비스 QoS 성능 연구)

  • User-Perceived application-level performance is a key to the adoption and success of CDMA 2000. To predict this performance in advance, a detailed end-to-end simulation model of a CDMA network was built to include application traffic characteristics, network architecture, network element details, and protocol features. We assess the user application performance when a Radio Access Network (RAN) and a Core Network (CN) adopt different transport architectures such as ATM and If. For voice Performance, we found that the vocoder bypass scenario shows 8% performance improvement over the others. For data packet performance, we found that HTTP v.1.1 shows better performance than that of HTTP v.1.0 due to the pipelining and TCP persistent connection. We also found that If transport technology is better solution for higher FER environment since the IP packet overhead is smaller than that of ATM for web browsing data traffic, while it shows opposite effect to small size voice packet in RAN architecture. Though simulation results we showed that the 3G-lX EV system gives much better packet delay performance than 3G-lX RTT, the main conclusion is that end-to-end application-level performance is affected by various elements and layers of the network and thus it must be considered in all phases of the technology evolution process.

  • Machine to Machine (M2M) communications is communications between a business application and devices via a communication network without any direct human interaction. The aim of our research is to connect any M2M device with an M2M AS (Application server) through an IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) Network Core using a M2M Gateway, in order to develop an M2M Horizontal Services Platform over IMS. An IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) is an architectural framework defined by the wireless standards body of the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) for delivering IP multimedia services to mobile users. This paper shows the design and implementation of a Horizontal M2M Network Services Platform over an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) using the Message Session Relay Protocol (MSRP). We summarize the protocols and architectures that formed the basis for the creation of our architecture. We provide a detailed description of our architecture design, describing the call flow of the proposed architecture and the entities operating in each process. We also describe the design and implementation process detailing the different tools used, explaining the selection of each component and its importance; also how we designed and implemented the M2M gateway, M2M Application Server, Open IMS Core, business application and M2M devices.

Efficient Energy Management for a Solar Energy Harvesting Sensor System (태양 에너지 기반 센서 시스템을 위한 효율적인 에너지 관리 기법)

  • Using solar power in wireless sensor networks (WSNs) requires adaptation to a highly varying energy supply and to a battery constraint. From an application's perspective, however, it is often preferred to operate at a constant quality level as opposed to changing application behavior frequently. Reconciling the varying supply with the fixed demand requires good tools for allocating energy such that average of energy supply is computed and demand is fixed accordingly. In this paper, we propose a probabilistic observation-based model for harvested solar energy. Based on this model, we develop a time-slot-based energy allocation scheme to use the periodically harvested solar energy optimally, while minimizing the variance in energy allocation. We also implement the testbed and demonstrate the efficiency of the approach by using it.

  • Remote control service, monitoring, gear service of information electronic appliance, various services of security service and so on of Home network that is by link of Ubiquitous environment are offered. These services need verification process through priority test to use and are changed. If test using actuality information electronic device for test, much expenses and time may be invested. Because use istent power line just as it is without necessity to establish circuit in addition by solution of home network testbed, expense costs to be less and establishment used easy PLC. Also, propriated Wireless sensor network that use Zigbee by solution of home network testbed. Study for Chronic Diseases Patients Management System using Zigbee of based WPAN (WPAN 기반의 Zigbee를 이용한 만성질환 환자 관리 시스템에 관한 연구)

  • As an aged population has increased in Korea, the number of patients with chronic disease has soared up as well. The rapid increase of the chronic disease triggers a need of new paradigm of healthcare. In terms of data transmission of healthcare system, a use of data-transmission protocol based on bluetooth could be dismal in application of healthcare due to its postponement of connection. On the contrary, WPAN is evaluated to be proper to support the application of healthcare in restricted geographic areas. In addition, the bluetooth, a base of the current wireless network, doesn't support a special mechanism to cope up with emergent patients because of its delayed connection among devices. Against this backdrop, this study aims to design an integrated interface of multi bio-sensing and suggest a measuring and monitering system for the patients with chronic illnesses by using Zigbee of WPAN as a sufficient bandwidth is anticipated owing to frequent deliveries of complicated biological signals.

  • GML proposed to offer interoperability of geography information is specifying various dynamic object schema for application in the wireless environment. These GML dynamic object schema supports the expression of moving objects that the position and shape change consecutively over time, so practical use of GML is increased in location-based service that provides various application services based on location information of moving objects. In particular, the conventional query languages about GML have been studied with priority given to the integration of geographic information, the support of spatial operations, and etc. However, it lacks the support for moving objects queries. Therefore, in this paper, we propose the moving objects query language that supports moving objects queries for GML documents by extension of XQuery that is standard in query language. Also, data model, algebra operation and various moving objects operators for the proposed query language are designed, and we apply the proposed query language to tornado government organization system to show that the proposed query language can be used effectively in various location-based service.

A Recommendation System Based on Customer Preference Analysis and Filter Management (고객 성향 분석과 필터 관리 기반 추천 시스템)

  • A recommendation system, which is an application area of e-CRM in e-commerce environment, provides individualized goods recommendation service that meets the demand of individual users. In general, existing recommendation systems require extensive historic user information in application domains. However, the method of recommendation based on static historic user information needs to respond flexibly to users'demand that changes rapidly and sensitively over time and in domains including a variety of users. In addition, it is difficult to recommend for new users who are not fall into any of existing domains. To overcome such limitations and provide flexible recommendation service, this study designed and implemented CPAR (Customer Preference Analysis Recommender) system that supports customer preference analysis and filter management. The filtering management capacity of the present system eases the necessity of extensive information about new users. In addition, CPAR system was implemented in XML-based wireless Internet environment for recommendation service independent from platforms and not limited by time and place.

  • The need of multimedia based application service is increasing as the number of smart mobile devices such as smart phone, tablet PC, and netbook is increasing rapidly and the development of application service like IPTV. There are various proposed policies to control the limited network resources. The IMS is used to control wired and wireless aggregation network to support multimedia services that are suitable to the user's need and the policy based models using the PDF of the IMS have emerged. In this paper, we propose the QoS adaption model using various protocols with the PDF of the IMS and the user scenario.
