This paper deals with the design and implementation of an open architecture CNC system for Wire-EDM, with a consideration of the difference between Wire-EDM and NC cutting machines. Recent open architecture controller(OAC) related research results could be applied to directly access Wire-EDM systems at the CNC level. However, previous research about OAC is mostly aimed at NC cutting machines such as milling or lathes, and hence these results are inadequate to apply to Wire-EDM. To close the gap between previous general research on OAC and Wire-EDM specific needs, an open architecture NC model for Wire-EDM composed of a synchronization kernel and a NC functional module is proposed. Based on the control information flow and Wire-EDM specific machining process, the conceptual CNC model and the detailed implementation model for Wire-EDM is suggested.
The tensile surface residual stress in the multi-pass drawn wire deteriorates the mechanical properties of the wire. Therefore, the evaluation of the residual stress is very important. Especially, the axial residual stress on the wire surface is the highest. Therefore, the objective of this study was to propose an axial surface residual stress prediction model of the multi-pass drawn steel wire. In order to achieve this objective, an elastoplastic finite element (FE) analysis was carried out to investigate the effect of semi-die angle and reduction ratio of the axial surface residual stress. By using the results of the FE analysis, a surface residual stress prediction model was proposed. In order to verify the effectiveness of the prediction model, the predicted residual stress was compared to that of a wire drawing experiment.
Purpose: This study is to estimate the life of elevator wire rope by using the accelerated degradation test with two accelerating variables of applied load and corrosion. Methods: Linear regression method is used to find the pseudo life of elevator wire rope at each combination of accelerating variables and the median life of elevator wire rope at use condition is estimated under the assumption that the life of elevator wire rope follows lognormal distribution. Results: The particular case study demonstrated that the results of the elevator wire life estimation by using the proposed method can provide the better solutions than existing methods. Conclusion: It can be economical to use accelerated degradation model for estimating the life of elevator wire rope.
The distributed resistance model has been recently implemented into the MATRA-LMR code in order to improve its prediction capability over the wire-wrap model for a flow blockage analysis in the LMR. The code capability has been investigated using experimental data observed in the FFM (Fuel Failure Mock-up)-2A and 5B for two typical flow conditions in a blocked channel. The predicted results by the MATRA-LMR with a distributed resistance model agreed well with the experimental data for wire-wrapped subchannels. However, it is suggested that the parameter n in the distributed resistance model needs to be calibrated accurately for a reasonable prediction of the temperature field under a low flow condition. Finally, the analyses of a blockage for the assembly of the KALIMER design are performed. Satisfactory results by the MATRA-LMR code were obtained through and rerified a comparison with results of the SABRE code.
In this study, nonlinear vibration analysis of the cylindrical orthotropic porous thin plate under V-shaped tension distribution with wire impact damping is considered. We make dynamic model of the plate under the tension using commercial FEM code and reduce the number of its degrees of freedom using dynamic condensation. The dynamic model of wire is obtained as lumped mass model from string equation. And then we analyze the nonlinear vibration of the plate including the impact phenomenon between the plate and the wire using the reduced mass and stiffness matrices of the plate and lumped model of the wire. The contact phenomenon between them can be described by impact contact elements composed of contact stiffness coefficients from Hertzian contact theory and contact damping coefficients from restitution coefficient between them. And we discussed the results of nonlinear vibration analysis for variations of their design parameters.
The wire rope is an indispensable production machinery in coal mines. It is the main force-bearing equipment of the underground traction system. Accurate detection of wire rope defects and positions exerts an exceedingly crucial role in safe production. The existing defect detection solutions exhibit some deficiencies pertaining to the flexibility, accuracy and real-time performance of wire rope defect detection. To solve the aforementioned problems, this study utilizes the camera to sample the wire rope before the well entry, and proposes an object based on YOLOv5. The surface small-defect detection model realizes the accurate detection of small defects outside the wire rope. The transfer learning method is also introduced to enhance the model accuracy of small sample training. Herein, the enhanced YOLOv5 algorithm effectively enhances the accuracy of target detection and solves the defect detection problem of wire rope utilized in mine, and somewhat avoids accidents occasioned by wire rope damage. After a large number of experiments, it is revealed that in the task of wire rope defect detection, the average correctness rate and the average accuracy rate of the model are significantly enhanced with those before the modification, and that the detection speed can be maintained at a real-time level.
Aluminum alloy which is one of the light materials has been tried to apply to light weight vehicle body. In order to do that, welding technology is very important. In case of the aluminum laser welding, the strength of welded part is reduced due to porosity, underfill, and magnesium loss. To overcome these problems, laser welding of aluminum with filler wire was suggested. In this study, experiment about laser welding of AA5182 aluminum alloy with AA5356 filler wire was performed according to process parameters such as laser power, welding speed and wire feed rate. The tensile strength was measured to find the weldability of laser welding with filler wire. The models to estimate tensile strength were suggested using three regression models and one neural network model. For regression models, one was the multiple linear regression model, another was the second order polynomial regression model, and the other was the multiple nonlinear regression model. Neural network model with 2 hidden layers which had 5 and 3 nodes respectively was investigated to find the most suitable model for the system. Estimation performance was evaluated for each model using the average error rate. Among the three regression models, the second order polynomial regression model had the best estimation performance. For all models, neural network model has the best estimation performance.
This paper proposes an inextensible wire-shaped deformation model to simulate catheter behavior. The wire-shaped model consists of serially-connected mass points and massless rigid links. Torsional springs and dampers are employed to accommodate bending. Deformation is computed by updating the rotation angles from the global coordinates while maintaining the fixed length condition. Equations of motion is derived from double pendulum motion. Spring constant is computed using strain energy and potential energy stored in a torsional spring to reflect material property. Simulation is conducted to show deformation of wire model while maintaining inextensibility condition and including material properties. The proposed method guarantees inextensible constraint in the catheter simulation.
