  • The power generated by wind turbines changes rapidly because of the continuous fluctuation of wind speed and direction. It is important for the power industry to have the capability to predict the changing wind power. In this paper, neural network based wind power prediction scheme which uses wind speed and direction is considered. In order to get a better prediction result, compression function which can be applied to the measurement data is introduced. Empirical data obtained from wind farm located in Kunsan is considered to verify the performance of the compression function.

  • India is a developing nation and heavily spends on the development of wind power plants to meet the national energy demand. The objective of this paper is to investigate wind power potential of Ennore site using wind data collected over a period of two years by three parameter Weibull distribution. The Weibull parameters are estimated using maximum likelihood, least square method and moment method and the accuracy is determined using R2 and root mean square error values. The site specific capacity factor is calculated by the mathematical model developed by three parameter Weibull distribution at different hub heights above the ground level. At last, the wind energy economic analysis is carried out using capacity factor at 30 m, 40 m and 50 m height for different wind turbine models. The analysis showed that the site has potential to install utility wind turbines to generate energy at the lowest cost per kilowatt-hour at height of 50 m. This research provides information of wind characteristics of potential sites and helps in selecting suitable wind turbine.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate various means of wind power turbines installation in the Korean west-south wind farm (Test bed 100 MW, Demonstrate site 400 MW). We presented the marine environment of the southwest offshore wind farm in order to decide the appropriate installation vessel to be used in this site. The various vessels would be WTIV (Wind turbine installation vessel), jack-up barge, or floating crane ${\cdots}$ etc. We analyzed the installation cost of offshore wind turbine and the transportation duration for each vessel. The analysis results showed the most suitable installation means for offshore wind turbine in the Korean west-south wind farm.

  • Numerical analysis of wind turbine scale effect was performed by using computational fluid dynamics. For the numerical analysis of wind turbine. Three dimensional Navier-Stokes solver with various turbulence models was tested and realizable k-e turbulence model was selected for the simulation of wind turbines. To validate the present method, performance of NREL (National Renewable Energy Laboratory) Phase VI wind turbine model was analyzed and compared with experiment and blind test data. Using the present method, numerical simulations for various size of wind tunnel model were carried out and characteristics were observed in detail. The power loss due to the interference between wind turbine and nacelle was also computed for relatively larger nacelle installation in wind tunnel test. The present results showed good correlations with experimental data and reasonable trends of scale effect of wind turbine.

  • Multi-MW wind turbines have very large blades over 40~50 m in length. Some factors like wind shear and tower shadow make an effect on asymmetric loads on the blades. Larger asymmetric loads are produced as the length of blade is getting longer. In this paper, a 2 MW on-shore wind turbine is considered and variations of thrust on 3 blades and rotor hub under wind shear are calculated by using a commercial Bladed S/W and dynamic properties of the thrust variations are investigated. It is shown that the amplitude of the asymmetric thrust on each blade under wind shear is getting larger as the wind speed increases, the frequency of the thrust variation on each blade is same as the one of rotor speed, and the frequency of the thrust variation at rotor hub is 3 times as high as the one of rotor speed.

  • Power system of Jeju is interconnected to the mainland using HVDC and that is also interconnected to three wind farms. It will be difficult to control of Jeju power system if HVDC is disconnected or HVDC is overhauled under large scale wind farms interconnected. We measured and analysed the power quality of two substation and two wind farms to assess that wind farms have an effect on Jeju system during the HVDC overhaul last May. We concentrated on the power quality like frequency, voltage variation, voltage harmonics, current harmonics, flicker. We can found that the frequency of Jeju system is very unstable during overhaul, so the frequency of Jeju system can be variated easily by wind farm's rapid output power variation. There are some benefits and weak points in power quality between two wind farms because each wind farm is consist of different wind turbines.

  • Offshore wind energy is gaining more and more attention during this decade. For the countries with coast sites, the water depth is significantly large. This causes attention to the floating wind turbine. Offshore wind turbines are designed and analyzed using comprehensive simulation codes that account for the coupled dynamics of the wind inflow, aerodynamics, elasticity and controls of the wind turbine, along with the incident waves, sea current, hydrodynamics, and foundation dynamics of the support structures. In this work, a three-bladed 5MW upwind wind turbine installed on a floating spar buoy in 320m of water is studied by using of fully coupled aero-hydro-servo-elastic simulation tool. Specifications of the structures are chosen from the OC3 (Offshore Code Comparison Collaboration) under "IEA Wind Annex XXIII-subtask2". The primary external conditions due to wind and waves are simulated. Certain design load case is investigated.

  • A wind turbine power performance test is very important to wind turbine manufacturers because a wind farm developer or planner must want to define power performance characteristics and reliability of new wind turbines. Based on the IEC 61400-12-1, A wind turbine test site has to be nicely installed at flat terrain for testing. We are developing the wind power system which is IEC wind class IIa model with rated power of 3MW. KEPCO's Gochang power testing center was considered as candidates to build the test site without site calibration. This paper aims to verify the validity of the test site by using implement site assessment result that was based on IEC 61400-12-1.

  • Wind Turbines of big scale of modem stage are made of a part glass F.R.P. Carbon Reinforced Plastic and Kevlar can be used 0 reinforcement but those are not economical in big scale of Wind Turbines. In this study life sized 10kW-class Rotor Blade is made of F.R.P. which is high stiffness and good dynamic behavior characteristic for light weight. It is accomplished an experimental research of Bending analysis blade. Bending analysis blade are calculated with F.E. Analysis performed with commercial F.E.M program ANSYS. Finally, experimental research is compared with F.E. Analysis. The results indicate that experimental values have good agreements with the F.E. Analysis.
