  • The present status of the thennomechanica1 evaluation of functionally gradient materials(FGMs) for space plane application was reviewed, in which research activities and the cooperation of the national project team organized to study FGM science were demonstrated. The project team was divided into three working groups; de singing, processing and evaluation, each of which had their own tasks in the project cooperation. The testings details of the various thennomechanical tests for the FGM samples fabricated by the processing groups were described, along with their corresponding heating conditions of the real environments in the space plane application. For small-sized samples, laser beam heating test and burner heating test were well applied to study the heat shielding and heat resisting properties. Arc-heated wind tunnel test and high temperature!high velocity gas flow test were used for large-sized panel assemblies having cooling structures. The criteria for the evaluation of the heat shielding and heat resisting properties of the FGMs, as well as a crack activation mechanism in their differential temperature heating, were proposed on the basis of the observation in the burner heating test.

Performance of Contra-Rotating Propellers for Stratospheric Airships

  • Small advance ratio and low Reynolds number of stratospheric propulsion system bring lots of challenges to the design of propellers. Contra-rotating propeller configuration is proposed to improve the propulsion efficiency. In this paper, the feasibility of contra-rotating propeller for stratospheric airship has been assessed and its performance has been investigated by wind tunnel tests. The experimental results indicate, at relatively low Reynolds number, although the advance ratio is fixed, the performance of propellers is different with variation of Reynolds number. Moreover, at the same Reynolds number, the efficiency of contra-rotating propeller achieved appears to be a few percent greater than that for a standard conventional propulsion system. It can be concluded that contra-rotating propellers would be an efficient means to improve the performance of stratospheric airship propulsion system.

Pantograph-catenary Dynamic Interaction for a Overhead Line Supported by Noise Barrier

  • Subject of the paper is a particular configuration of overhead line, in which noise barrier structure is used as supports of the catenary instead of standard poles. This configuration is foreseen in case the noise barrier position is in conflict with the poles location. If the catenary is supported by the noise barrier, the motion that the latter undergo due to wave pressure associated to train transit is transmitted to the overhead line, so that potentially it influences the interaction between the catenary itself and the pantograph of the passing train. The paper focuses on the influence of such peculiar configuration on the quality of the current collection of high speed pantograph, for single and double current collection. The study has been carried out first with an experimental investigation on the pressure distribution on noise barrier, both in wind tunnel and with in-field tests. Subsequently a numerical analysis of the dynamics of the barrier subjected to the wave pressure due to train transit has been carried out, and the output of such analysis has been used as input data for the simulation of the pantograph-dynamic interaction at different speeds and with front or rear pantograph in operation. Consideration of structural modifications was then highlighted, in order to reduce the influence on the contact loss percentage.

차세대 고속전철 팬터그래프 팬 헤드의 압상력 변화 해석 (Analysis of Change of Contact Force in the Pantograph Pan Head of Next Generation High Speed Train)

  • In order to investigate the change of contact force of pantograph pan head due to the change of aerodynamic force, three dimensional flow around the pan head were calculated. For this, the aerodynamic modeling of pan head of CX pantograph was performed and the standard deviation of the contact force of the simulation results were compared with those of the experimental results of wind tunnel tests. From the comparison, it was confirmed that the current grid system and the numerical methodologies can be utilized to calculate the aerodynamic characteristics of the pantograph pan head. By using these grid system and the methodologies, the standard deviations of the contact force of pan head were calculated with velocities as 200, 250, 300, 350, and 400 km/h. The maximum standard deviation of the aerodynamic contact force of pan head was 92 N at 400 km/h and statistical minimum contact force was more than 0 N. Therefore, it was confirmed that and the pan head of CX pantograph was statistically contacted with the catenary system with the train speed of 350 km/h though the aerodynamic contact force was changed.

수직충격파와 난류경계층의 간섭유동의 피동제어에 관한 수치 해석 (Computations on Passive Control of Normal Shock-Wave/Turbulent Boundary-Layer Interactions)

  • 본 연구에서는 2차원 압축성 Navier-Stokes 방정식을 이용하여, 약한 수직충격파와 난류 경계층의 간섭현상에 대한 피동제어 유동장을 수치계산법으로 조사하였다. 벽 내부에 공동을 가지는 다공벽을 사용하여 충격파와 난류경계층간 상호간섭을 제어하였다. 본 연구로부터 $\lambda$형 충격파의 하류쪽 가지를 중심으로 하여, 그 하류에서는 주유동이 공동내부로 또 그 상류에서는 공동내부로부터 주유동쪽으로 피이드백되는 유동을 관찰하였으며, 다공벽의 구멍을 통하는 유동은 초크하지 않는다는 것을 알았다.

Extended Injectant Mole-Fraction Imaging of Supersonic Mixing using Acetone PLIF

  • The fluorescence ratio method for processing planar laser induced fluorescence(PLIF) data was generalized for quantitative imaging of the injectant mole-fraction in supersonic mixing flowfields. The original fluorescence ratio approach was introduced by Hartfield et al. for tests in a special closed-loop wind tunnel to eliminate the effects of thermodynamic property variations in compressible flowfields and to provide a quantitative means of mole-fraction measurement. However, they implicitly assumed that the tracer molecules were seeded at the same fraction in both main and secondary flows. In the present study, we proposed generalizing the Hartfield method by considering differences in the tracer seeding rates. We examined the generalized method in a mixing flowfield formed by sonic transverse injection into a Mach 1.8 supersonic air stream. The injectant molefraction distribution obtained from PLIF data processed by our new approach showed better agreement with the gas chromatograph than one based on the Hartfield method.

A Dynamic Test Facility for Mobile Air Conditioning Systems

  • Mobile air conditioning systems work under widely changing operating conditions. To understand the system behavior under such dynamic conditions, a test facility that can impose transient loads as well as conducting dynamic measurements is needed. To test mobile air conditioning systems including their dynamic performance under various drive cycle patterns without using full scale vehicles in a wind tunnel, a new test facility, called "dynamic simulator," is described. It can replicate real vehicle operating conditions by interacting with the system being tested based on the measured system performance and subsequently adjusting the air properties returning to the test system based on the results of a numerical cabin model. A new dynamic simulator has been designed, constructed, and verified for performing dynamic tests. It was successful in controlling the temperature and relative humidity of the air returning to the test unit within ${\pm}0.7^{\circ}C$ and ${\pm}4%$ of their respective intended values. The verification test under the New European Driving Cycle demonstrated that detailed transient behavior of the mobile air conditioning system could be measured by using this dynamic simulator.

  • 본질적으로 두 개의 I형 거더를 가진 사장교는 공기역학적으로 불리한 특성을 가지고 있음에도 불구하고 경제적으로 유리하기 때문에 최근 우리나라에서 많이 건설되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 두 개의 I형 거더를 가지는 사장교의 실제 조건 하에서의 공기역학적 특성을 평가하기 위하여 영각, 난류강도, 감쇠비를 변화시켜가면서 단면모형실험을 수행하였다. 비틀림 강성이 다른 두 개의 상부 단면 형식이 시공단계 및 완공 후에 대하여 각각 조사되었고 교량의 공기역학적 특성을 향상시키기 위하여 3가지 형식의 페어링이 고려되었다. 연구결과, 전통적인 등류에서의 단면모형실험은 다소 비관적으로 공기역학적 거동을 평가하고 있으며 교량의 바람에 의한 응답은 난류강도와 구조감쇠비에 따라 현저하게 변화하는 것을 확인하였다. 본 연구에서 제시된 페어링은 와류진동 및 버페팅 진동을 감소시켰으며 또한, 플러터의 발생속도도 증가시켰다. 본 연구결과는 두 개의 I형 거더를 가지는 사장교의 내풍설계를 위한 많은 정보를 제공할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

과학로켓 모델의 정적 안정성에 대한 초음속풍동 실험연구 (Experimental Study on the Static Stability of a Sounding Rocket Model in the Supersonic Wind Tunnel)

  • 본 연구에서는 하이브리드 과학로켓의 공력특성을 파악하고 정적 세로 안정성에 대한 판단을 하기 위해서 초음속 풍동실험을 하였다. 과학로켓의 10% 축소모델에 대해서 마하수 1.75~2.5, 받음각 $0^{\circ}{\sim}6^{\circ}$의 조건에서 실험을 수행하였으며, 4분력 내장형 밸런스를 사용하여 실험모델의 공력과 모멘트를 측정하였다. 측정된 자료를 바탕으로 로켓의 안정성을 판단하였으며, 로켓의 길이효과를 분석하기 위하여 길이가 다른 3개의 모델에 대하여 실험을 수행하였다. 또한, 쉴리렌 광학장치를 이용하여 초음속 비행 시 발생하는 충격파를 가시화하고 속도 및 받음각 변화에 따른 충격파의 변화를 관찰하였다.

패들형 블레이드를 장착한 힌지없는 로터 시스템의 회전시험

  • 본 논문은 복합재 패들형 블레이드를 장착한 축소 힌지없는 로터 시스템의 정지 및 전진 비행조건에 대한 회전시험 기술과 결과에 대한 것이다. 축소 로터 시스템은 실물크기 로터 시스템의 구조 자료를 이용하여 프루드 축소화하였고, 허브 flexure는 동일한 로터의 동력학적 특성을 기준으로 금속재와 복합재 2가지를 제작하였다. 2종류의 힌지없는 허브시스템을 KARI의 GSRTS에 장착후 회전 시험을 실시하여 로터 시스템의 리드래그 감쇠비와 공력 하중을 측정하였다. 리드래그 모드의 감쇠비를 산출하기 위해 MBA(Moving Block Analysis)기법을 사용하였고, 허브와 주축 사이에 6분력 발란스를 장착하고, 블레이드에 스트레인게이지를 부착하여 공력하중을 측정하였다. 시험은 제자리 및 전진비행 조건에 따라 지상 및 풍동에서 각각 수행하였다.
