The inclination of seabed profile (sloped seabed) is one of the known topographic features which can be observed at different seabed level in the large offshore basin. A mooring system connected between the platform and global seabed is an integral part of the floating structure which tries to keep the floating platform settled in its own position against hostile sea environment. This paper deals with an investigation of the motion responses of an FPSO platform moored on the sloped seabed under the combined action of wave, wind and current loads. A three-dimensional panel discretization method has been used to model the floating body. To introduce the connection of multi-segmented non-linear elastic catenary mooring cables with the sloped seabed, a quasi-static composite catenary model is employed. The model and analysis have been completed by using hydrodynamic diffraction code AQWA. Validation of the numerical model has been successfully carried out with an experimental work published in the latest literature. The analysis procedure in this study has been followed time domain analysis. The study involves an objective oriented investigation on platform motions, in order to identify the effects of the slopped seabed, the action of the wave, wind and current loads and the presence of riser system. In the end, an effective analysis has been performed to identify a stable mooring model in demand of reducing structural responses of the FPSO.

Side jet effect on the aerodynamic characteristics of a missile was investigated using experimental and computational methods. A couple of side jets were injected toward outward downstream at mid point of missile body. Cold air jet was used in the wind tunnel test, and cold and hot jet were used in the computation. Wind tunnel test was carried out with jet and without jet, and calculation was performed for three cases ; no jet, cold air jet, and hot mixture gas jet. From the comparison of measured and calculated data for all cases, two points could be deduced. Firstly, side jet made static stability to be unstable by increasing body normal force near the side jet exit and by decreasing tail normal force. Secondly, hot mixture gas had more significant effect on the static stability of a missile-type body than cold air jet.
This paper presents a new stand-alone wind-based induction generator system with constant frequency and adjustable output voltage. The proposed generator consists of a six-phase cage-rotor induction machine with two separate three-phase balanced stator windings and a three-phase space vector pulse width modulation inverter that operates as a static synchronous compensator (STATCOM). The first stator winding is fed by the STATCOM and used to excite the machine while the second stator winding is connected to the generator external load. The main frequency of the STATCOM is determined to be constant and equal to the load-requested frequency. The generator output frequency is independent of the load power demand and its prime mover speed because the frequency of the induced emf in the second stator winding is the same as this constant frequency. A sliding mode control (SMC) is developed to regulate the generator output voltage. A second SMC is used to force the zero active power exchanged between the machine and the STATCOM. Some simulation and experimental results are presented to prove the validity and effectiveness of the proposed generator system.
This paper presents a beam finite element model of a vibrate wind blade in large elastic deformation subjected to the aerodynamic, centrifugal, gyroscopic and gravity loads. The gyroscopic loads applied to the blade are induced by her simultaneous vibration and rotation. The proposed beam finite element model is based on a simplex interpolation method and it is mainly intended to the numerical analysis of wind blades vibration in large elastic deformation. For this purpose, the theory of the sheared beams and the finite element method are combined to develop the algebraic equations system governing the three-dimensional motion of blade vibration. The applicability of the theoretical approach is elucidated through an original case study. Also, the static deformation of the used wind blade is assessed by appropriate software using a solid finite element model in order to show the effectiveness of the obtained results. To simulate the nonlinear dynamic response of wind blade, the predictor-corrector Newmark scheme is applied and the stability of numerical process is approved during a large time of blade functioning. Finally, the influence of the modified geometrical stiffness on the amplitudes and frequencies of the wind blade vibration induced by the sinusoidal excitation of gravity is analyzed.
Wind tunnel tests and numerical aerodynamic analyses were conducted for an integrated catwalk structure under strong winds. From the wind tunnel tests, it is found that the aerodynamic coefficients were different from those of the typical type. The drag coefficient was larger than typical and was sensitive to number of vertical meshes installed rather than the solidity ratio. Comparing with typical catwalk, the integrated one showed larger deformation under strong wind, and the large torsional deformation are mainly caused by drag force. It did not show aerodynamic divergence even the torsional deformation reaching $20^{\circ}$. The reason could be that the stiffness is smaller and thus the catwalk is able to deform to the shape compactable with higher loading. Considering safety for construction, storm rope system is introduced to the catwalk to reduce the deformation to acceptable level.

In this paper, we investigated the sensitivity of aerostatic force coefficients of multi-layer radom in the various wind speeds. The test was conducted in KOCED Wind Tunnel Center in Chonbuk National University, and wind speeds were in the range from 5 m/s to 26 m/s in order to determine the Reynolds number independence. The test results of present multi-layer radom were not affected by the Reynolds number, The maximum positive pressure coefficient was found to be 1.08 at the center of the front of the plane in angle of attack of 0 degree, the maximum negative pressure coefficient was -2.03 at the upper right corner in angle of attack of 120 degree, while maximum drag coefficient was 1.11 in angle of attack of 180 degree.

Although mostly used in wind turbine market, single rotor wind turbines have problems with transportation and installation costs due to their large size. In order to solve such problems, multi-rotor wind turbine is being proposed; however, light weight design of multi-rotor wind turbine is required considering the installation at offshore or deep sea. This study proposes the systematic design process of the multi-rotor wind turbine focused on its supporting structure with simultaneous consideration of static and dynamic behaviors in an ideal situation. 2D and successive 3D topology optimization process based on the density method were applied to minimize the compliance of supporting structure. To realize the conceptual design obtained by topology optimization for manufacturing feasibility, the derived 3D structure was modified to have shell structures and optimized again through parametric design using the design of experiments and the response surface method for detail design of their thicknesses and radii. The resultant structure was determined to satisfy the stress and the buckling load constraint as well as to minimize the weight and the resultant supporting structure were verified numerically.

Offshore wind turbines are considered as a fundamental part to develop substantial, alternative energy sources. In this highly flexible structures, monopiles are usually used as support foundations. Since the monopiles are large diameter (3.5 to 7 m) deep foundations, they result in extremely stiff short monopiles where the slenderness (length to diameter) may range between 5 and 10. Consequently, their elastic deformation patterns under lateral loading differ from those of small diameter monopiles usually employed for supporting structures in offshore oil and gas industry. For this reason, design recommendations (API and DNV) are not appropriate for designing foundations for offshore wind turbine structures as they have been established on the basis of full-scale load tests on long, slender and flexible piles. Furthermore, as these facilities are very sensitive to rotations and dynamic changes in the soil-pile system, the accurate prediction of monopile head displacement and rotation constitutes a design criterion of paramount importance. In this paper, the Fourier Series Aided Finite Element Method (FSAFEM) is employed for the determination of static impedance functions of monopiles for OWT subjected to horizontal force and/or to an overturning moment, where a non-homogeneous soil profile has been considered. On the basis of an extensive parametric study, and in order to address the problem of head stiffness of short monopiles, approximate analytical formulae are obtained for lateral stiffness $K_L$, rotational stiffness $K_R$ and cross coupling stiffness $K_{LR}$ for both rough and smooth interfaces. Theses expressions which depend only on the values of the monopile slenderness $L/D_p$ rather than the relative soil/monopile rigidity $E_p/E_s$ usually found in the offshore platforms designing codes (DNV code for example) have been incorporated in the expressions of the OWT natural frequency of four wind farm sites. Excellent agreement has been found between the computed and the measured natural frequencies.

In this study, the structural performance tests, i.e., static tests and dynamic tests of the composite wind turbine blade, were carried out by using the embedded fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensors. The composite wind turbine blade used in the test is the 1/23 scale of the 750 kW composite blade. In static tests, the deflections along the blade were evaluated. Evaluations were carried out with simple beam theory and quadratic fitting method by using the embedded FBG sensors to predict the structural behavior with respect to the load. The deflections were compared to those obtained from the laser displacement sensor and electric strain gauges. They showed good agreement. Modal tests were performed to investigate the dynamic characteristics using the embedded FBG sensors. The natural frequencies obtained from the FBG sensors corresponding to the nine mode shapes of the blade were compared to those from the laser Doppler vibrometer. They were found to be consistent with each other. Therefore, it is concluded that the embedded FBG sensors have a great capability for measuring the structural performances of the composite wind turbine blade when structural performance tests are carried out.

Recently, as global environmental issues for sustainable development, such as carbon neutrality, have emerged, disposal methods of glass fiber composites, a material of existing wind turbines, have become a problem. To solve this problem, in this study, 30kW wind turbine blades were manufactured using flax fiber-based composites, which are eco-friendly natural fiber composites that can replace existing glass fiber composites, and their suitability was evaluated. First, mechanical strength tests were conducted to verify the feasibility of using eco-friendly natural flax fiber composites as a wind turbine blade material, and as a result, better strength were confirmed compared to previous studies on the properties of flax fiber composites. In addition, the suitability was confirmed through a static strength performance evaluation test to measure the static strength of the flax fiber composite blade using the manufactured 30kW class flax fiber composite blade.
