In this study, the freight vehicles were modelled and the flow analysis on the existence or non-existence of a cargo container and the wind deflector were carried out. Based on the driving speed of 100 km/hr, at all models A, B and C, the highest flow rate was shown between 58 m/s and 59 m/s at the top of the model shape. All models A, B and C showed the highest pressure of air resistance between 652Pa and 671Pa at the front of the model geometry. The maximum pressure of model A is considered to be the smallest, with the least flow resistance to speed compared to models B and C. Therefore, it can be seen that model A has an advantageous condition for air resistance in terms of fuel costs. Unlike model B which causes the rapid flow resistance at the cargo compartment, model C can be found to flow a little more smoothly on the streamlined wind deflector. So, the flow air at a streamlined shape is considered to be more advantageous in terms of air resistance than at angular shape. By applying the research analysis result on the air flow in driving according to a cargo container and the wind deflector, it is seen that this study is adequate at the practical efficient design and aesthetic convergence.

According to the increment of urban buildings, the demand of eco-environment space will be also increased. Therefore, the artificial ground green system on a roof will be supplied gradually. In this study, the concept of simplification, unification and prefabrication was widely applied to supply green system. Consequently, the box unit system with a continuous soil layer was developed, and adhesive property, wind resistance and insulation property of this system were evaluated for site application. As a results of adhesive property and wind resistance test, comparing with design wind pressure and wind velocity, this system was safe at the height of 100m building located in urban. In addition, results of temperature measurement for 120 days showed 17% higher insulation property at daytime and 45% higher insulation property at night than normal box unit system owing to continuous soil layer.

The wind resistant capacity of bridges with a span of less than 200m is typically evaluated by Wind Resistant Design Manual for Highway Bridges in Japan. Also, the first vertical frequency plays an important role in the evaluation of their aerodynamic performance. An unexpected vortex-induced vibration of Nielsen arch bridge with span of 183m designed by this manual has been measured by monitoring system during typhoon. The amplitude of vibrations was about 2 times than the allowable vibration displacement. This paper presents the feature of vortex-induced vibration of this Nielsen arch bridge based on measured wind velocity, wind direction, and responses at midspan of main girder. From the result of FFT, the $1^{st}$ mode shape of the bridge is antisymmetric and the $2^{nd}$ is symmetric. Also, the dominant vibration of the bridge is the $2^{nd}$ vertical mode. According to these results, the $2^{nd}$ vertical vibration mode of this Nielsen arch bridge is prior to the first for the estimation of wind resistance capacity.
A series of wind tunnel tests, including 1:50 sectional model tests, 1:50 free-standing bridge tower tests and 1:70 full-bridge aeroelastic model tests were carried out to systematically investigate the aerodynamic performance of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB). The test result indicates that there are three wind-resistant safety issues the HZMB encounters, including unacceptable low flutter critical wind speed, vertical vortex-induced vibration (VIV) of the main girder and galloping of the bridge tower in across-wind direction. Wind-induced vibration of HZMB can be effectively suppressed by the application of aerodynamic and mechanical measures. Acceptable flutter critical wind speed is achieved by optimizing the main girder form (before: large cantilever steel box girder, after: streamlined steel box girder) and cable type (before: central cable, after: double cable); The installations of wind fairing, guide plates and increasing structural damping are proved to be useful in suppressing the VIV of the HZMB; The galloping can be effectively suppressed by optimizing the interior angle on the windward side of the bridge tower. The present works provide scientific basis and guidance for wind resistance design of the HZMB.
This study presents a comprehensive investigation of wind load characteristics and wind-induced responses associated with different wind incidence angles and terrains of the 1000kV UHV substation frame. High-frequency force balance (HFFB) force measurement wind tunnel tests are conducted on the overall and segment models to characterize wind loads characteristics such as the aerodynamic force coefficients and the shape factors. The most unfavorable wind incidence angles and terrains for aerodynamic characteristics are obtained. A finite element model of the substation frame is built to determine the wind-induced response characters based on the aerodynamic force coefficients and bottom forces of the segment models. The mean and root mean square (RMS) values of displacement responses at different heights of the frame structure are compared and analyzed. The influence of wind incidence angle and terrains on wind-induced responses is also examined. The displacement responses in terms of the crest factor method are subsequently transformed into dynamic response factors. The recommended values of dynamic response factors at four typical heights have been proposed to provide a reference for the wind resistance design of such structures.
In order to realize tiny bridge crack discovery by UAV-based machine vision, a novel method combining deep learning and tensor voting is proposed. Firstly, the grid images of crack are detected and descripted based on SE-ResNet50 to generate feature points. Then, the probability significance map of crack image is calculated by tensor voting with feature points, which can define the direction and region of crack. Further, the crack detection anchor box is formed by non-maximum suppression from the probability significance map, which can improve the robustness of tiny crack detection. Finally, a case study is carried out to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method in the Xiangjiang-River bridge inspection. Compared with the original tensor voting algorithm, the proposed method has higher accuracy in the situation of only 1-2 pixels width crack and the existence of edge blur, crack discontinuity, which is suitable for UAV-based bridge crack discovery.
To investigate the nonlinear aerostatic stability of the Hutong cable-stayed rail-cum-road bridge with ultra-kilometer main span, a FEM bridge model is established. The tri-component wind loads and geometric nonlinearity are taken into consideration and discussed for the influence of nonlinear parameters and factors on bridge resistant capacity of aerostatic instability. The results show that the effect of initial wind attack-angle is significant for the aerostatic stability analysis of the bridge. The geometric nonlinearities of the bridge are of considerable importance in the analysis, especially the effect of cable sag. The instable mechanism of the Hutong Bridge with a steel truss girder is the spatial combination of vertical bending and torsion with large lateral bending displacement. The design wind velocity is much lower than the static instability wind velocity, and the structural aerostatic resistance capacity can meet the requirement.
Gusts generated by downburst have caused a great variety of structural damages in many regions around the world. It is of great significance to accurately evaluate the downburst-induced wind load on high-rise building for the wind resistance design. The main objective of this paper is to propose a computational modeling approach which can satisfactorily predict the mean and fluctuating wind pressure coefficients induced by downburst on high-rise building surfaces. In this study, using an impinging jet to simulate downburst-like wind, and simultaneous pressure measurements are obtained on a high-rise building model at different radial locations. The model test data are used as the database for developing back propagation neural network (BPNN) models. Comparisons between the BPNN prediction results and those from impinging jet test demonstrate that the BPNN-based method can satisfactorily and efficiently predict the downburst-induced wind pressure coefficients on single and overall surfaces of high-rise building at various radial locations.

Dynamic analysis of the electrical transmission system including transmission towers and cables is carried out by a general purpose structural analysis computer program for examining the wind-resistance of the system The spectral representation method is introduced to generate dynamic wind loads by using the Kaimal's spectrum and the measured wind velocities from wind tunnel tests, respectively. The numerical simulation results show that the responses in the case of the measured wind velocities is slightly larger than those in the case of the code.

A steel high-rise building (HRB) with 15 stories was analyzed under the dynamic load of wind or four different earthquakes taking into consideration the effect of soil-structure interaction (SSI) and using tuned mass damper (TMD) devices to resist these types of dynamic loads. The behavior of the steel HRB as a lightweight structure subjected to dynamic loads is critical especially for wind load with effect maximum at the top of the building and reduced until the base of the building, while on the contrary for seismic load with effect maximum at the base and reduced until the top of the building. The TMDs as a successful passive resistance method against the effect of wind or earthquakes is used to mitigate their effects on the steel high-rise building. Lateral displacements, top accelerations and straining actions were computed to judge the effectiveness of the TMDs on the response of the steel HRB subjected to wind or earthquakes.
