Quantitative Trait Locus Mapping and Candidate Gene Analysis for Plant Architecture Traits Using Whole Genome Re-Sequencing in Rice

  • Plant breeders have focused on improving plant architecture as an effective means to increase crop yield. Here, we identify the main-effect quantitative trait loci (QTLs) for plant shape-related traits in rice (Oryza sativa) and find candidate genes by applying whole genome re-sequencing of two parental cultivars using next-generation sequencing. To identify QTLs influencing plant shape, we analyzed six traits: plant height, tiller number, panicle diameter, panicle length, flag leaf length, and flag leaf width. We performed QTL analysis with 178 $F_7$ recombinant inbred lines (RILs) from a cross of japonica rice line 'SNU-SG1' and indica rice line 'Milyang23'. Using 131 molecular markers, including 28 insertion/deletion markers, we identified 11 main- and 16 minor-effect QTLs for the six traits with a threshold LOD value > 2.8. Our sequence analysis identified fifty-four candidate genes for the main-effect QTLs. By further comparison of coding sequences and meta-expression profiles between japonica and indica rice varieties, we finally chose 15 strong candidate genes for the 11 main-effect QTLs. Our study shows that the whole-genome sequence data substantially enhanced the efficiency of polymorphic marker development for QTL fine-mapping and the identification of possible candidate genes. This yields useful genetic resources for breeding high-yielding rice cultivars with improved plant architecture.

  • The purpose of this study is to summarize systematically and understand the characteristics of the production process of whole garments in order to develop knitwear using a real whole garment machine and propose this as a development case for high value added knitwear design. Concerning research methods, the study looked at existing research into whole garment knitwear and relevant data, data on websites, and the whole garment knitting machine made by Shima Seiki, a Japanese company, which has been the most commonly used machine in Korea. Also the study collected program data concerning a knitting machine and knitting by participating in the production process of whole garment knitwear, and the production line was filmed directly. In addition, the study conducted research into the development of knitwear design using the SWG-X 12 gauge. The conclusions obtained from the production process of whole garments and product development include the following. First, whole garment knitwear is appropriate for expressing a sophisticated look that makes the body appear to be in one form through natural connection without any seam allowance. Second, it is very suitable for response production since it does not go through the pattern, cutting, and processing stages. Furthermore, because of the consistent management of the entire process by computer control, it may be the highest cutting-edge fashion area in which planning and proposal style industry may be realizable. Third, it is easy to approach design through a programming process, and it is possible to develop diverse patterns; thereby, it is appropriate for producing high value added knitwear products.

  • This research deals with multiple Gantry-type assembly machines for the optimization of PCB assembly line. The automated assembly machine has 6 nozzles which can linearly move the X axis and the Y axis different from the turret type assembly machine. Each machine is optimized while considering the whole line balancing of three machines in assembly process simultaneously. Simulation models are developed using AutoMod for comparison study with single machine operation cases under various conditions such as types and total number of components to evaluate the proposed method.

  • An efficient automatic inspection system for Floating Seal is developed, The proposed system consists of a high resolution line scan camera, microcomputer, and PLC (Programmable Logic Controller). In order to perform rapid inspection, The ROI (Region of Interest) is extracted from the original image. There are types of defects; shape defects and surface defects. Each features of defects are captured by edge detect, segmentation, morphological operation, and threshold analysis. PLC controller is used to synchronize the whole system and store the inspection results temporarily to reduce the overhead of microcomputer. As a result, the system is being utilized successfully in a teal inspection line.

  • This paper presents the development of smart road line lamp system consisting light control device. It can perform the individual power control or partial on/off control of a LED lamp by control center and can detect the error of the LEDs by current sensing. Also, the ability to control the brightness and period of on/off by detecting the car's existence. This light control circuit consists of road line lamp unit device. It can give a lot of solutions when the server, which controls the whole system, is operated through CDMA(Code-Division Multiple Access) network.

Text line separation in handwritten address image using partial projection technique (부분 투영기법을 이용한 필기체 주소 영상에서의 문자열 분리)

  • In this paper, we describe a method for separating text lines in handwritten Korean address images. The most remarkable feature of the proposed method is to use a modified projection technique. named a partial projection technique. A projection based text line separation method which projects the whole address image in horizontal direction to find split points for text line separation cannot avoid failing separation in case of images with a little skew or overlap between vertically neighboring text lines. To overcome this problem, we have introduced a partial projection technique which splits an address image into a few partial address images to be equal width and then project them each horizontally. The experiment done with 989 handwritten Korean address images extracted from live mails shows the superiority of the proposed method. The correct text-line separation rate fir the testing images was about 91.5%.

  • Safety of railroad is result of reliability which is received from test & evaluation of system. Railroad system is consisted of various sub system such as vehicle, supply of electric power, signal, communication, rail track construction, operation. To secure safety of railroad, evaluation about parts, assembly, sub system, whole system etc.. that compose railroad is essential. In this paper, I wish to describe for results that analyze korean tilting vehicle's derailment coefficient developed by national research achievement. Confirmed that is possible even if speed up, curved line department running speed that estimate korean tilting vehicle's running safety in curved line track of Jungang Line about 20 km/h than present operating speed.

FUV Emission-line Morphologies of the SNR G65.3+5.7

  • We present the far-ultraviolet (FUV) emission line morphologies in the whole region of the supernova remnant G65.3+5.7 using the FIMS/SPEAR data. The morphologies of the C IV ${\lambda}{\lambda}1548$, 1551, $H2{\lambda}1608 $, He II ${\lambda}1640$, and O III] ${\lambda}{\lambda}1661$, 1666 lines appear to correlate clearly with the optical emission line images or the ROSAT X-ray (0.11-0.284 keV) image obtained in some of the previous studies. We found that a foreground dust cloud, resonant scattering, and incompleteness of radiative shocks have made the definite differences between the morphologies of the above FUV emission lines. We also present the FUV spectra and line intensities from a few sub-regions.

  • This paper describes a sweeping path planning algorithm for an autonomous smearing robot on commercial autoCAD system. An automatic planner generates a sweeping path pattern by proposed five basic procedures, (1) interfacing architectural CAD system, (2) off-line obstacle map building, (3) scanning the whole workspace for subgoals of sweeping line, (4) tracking sequence of the subgoals, and (5) obstacle avoiding. A sweeping path is planned by sequentially connecting the tracking points in such a way that (1) the connected line segments should be crossed, (2) the total tracking points should be as short as possible, (3) the tracking line should not pass through the obstacle. Feasibility of the developed techniques has been demonstrated on real architectural CAD draft.

  • This paper describes controller design and simulation-model development of a dynamic voltage compensator using series and shunt inverters. The control system was designed using PI controller and vector relationship between the supply voltage and load voltage. A simulation model with EMTP was developed to analyze performance of the controller and the whole system. The simulation and experiment results confirm that the dynamic compensator can restore the load voltage under the fault of the distribution system, such as single-line-ground fault, three-line-to-ground fault, and line-to-line fault.
