  • The disposal of stormwater is one of the major problems in urban water management. One method of reducing peak runoff rates and other detrimental impacts of stormwater is detention storage. Detention ponds as a water quality control alternatives have been investigated by a number of researchers. Recognizing multiple roles such as flood peak attenuation, pollution removal and aesthetic enhancement, the design and management of detentions ponds deserve more research. The purpose of this research is to establish design criteria wet detention ponds to improve water quality. Water quality in detention pond discharge might be improve with physical, chemical and biological alterations. Physical alteration was focused in this study. There are several methods for estimating the suspended solid control capability of wet detention ponds. Existing models of suspended solids removal are based on sedimentation and gravity settling theory. The pollutant trap efficiency of pond is a function of several interrelating factors. Detention time is the most important factor, because it determine gravity settling quantities of pollutants. Desirable modification of physical factors for improvement of water quality in wet detention ponds are volume ratio, area ratio, length to width ratio, depth, out let location, bottom soil type. In order to apply design procedure in actual site, Namak new town development area was selected.

  • Calcium phosphates (CaP) were prepared by a wet chemical method. Micro-crystalline dicalcium phosphate (DCPD) was precipitated at $37^{\circ}C$ and pH 5.0 using $Ca(OH)_2$ and $H_3PO_4$. The precipitated DCPD solution was kept at $37^{\circ}C$ for 96 h. Artificial bone cement was composed of DCPD, $Ca(H_2PO_4)_2{\cdot}H_2O$ (MCPM), and $CaSO_4{\cdot}1/2H_2O$, $H_2O$ and aqueous poly-phosphoric acid solution. The wet prepared CaP powder was used as a matrix for the bone cement recipe. With the addition of aqueous poly-phosphoric acid, the cement hardening reaction was started and the CaP bone cement blocks were fabricated for the mechanical strength measurement. For the tested blocks, the mechanical strength was measured using a universal testing machine, and the microstructure phase analysis was done by field emission scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction. The cement hardening reaction occurred through the decomposition and recrystallization of MCPM and $CaSO_4{\cdot}1/2H_2O$ added on the surface of the wet prepared CaP, and this resulted in grain growth in the bone cement block.

  • Wet compaction test (WCT) is a fiber evaluation method where wet fibers are compressed at one side of a cylinder and water drains out from the other side. The consistency of the fiber furnishes and their pressures are recorded during the test. In the previous study we found that WCT results always gave better coefficients of determination in fiber furnish drainage, and paper properties (density, tensile, tear, and burst strength) than those of WRV (water retention value). Fiber freeness and fiber length correlated well with drainage and tear strength of the furnishes, respectively; however, their correlations were very much improved by combining the WCT results. In this study, we used the WCT test for fractionated fiber furnishes to see whether improvement of the WCT is possible. We found that strength properties such as breaking length and burst index were correlated better with the fractionated long fiber furnishes. Drainage was greatly affected by the presence of short fiber furnishes. We used bleached chemical pulps (SwBKP, HwBKP), recycled pulp (OCC), and mechanical pulp (BCTMP) as fiber furnishes in this study. Fiber fractionation can be performed on-line in these days by using multifractor and WCT can be used as an on-line test in papermachine in the future.

  • Quantitative analysis each portland cement components was conducted by standard calibration method using X-ray fluorescence spectrometer. Standard sample and the unknown sample were prepared by fused cast bead method. In checking the errors of standard cement 227A372 the relative errors of constituents such as CaO, SiO2, Al2O3, Fe2O3, MgO and SrO were less than 1% and the relative errors of constituents such as So3, K2O, TiO2, Na2O P2O5, and Mn2O3 were less than 5% Sample preparation was mainly contributed to the errors. Compared with general wet chemical method the results of X-ray fluorescence analyses were more precise and accurate. Moreover it is possible to analyze precisely a little amount of the constituents such as SrO, Mn2O3 and P2O5 the analyses of which were very difficult using the wet chemical method.

  • Paper relics are affected by a number of complex physical, chemical, biological and artificial damaging factors due to the vulnerability of organic materials. Wet cleaning is a conservation treatment method for removing pollutants from paper artefacts. This study was carried out in order to analyse the effect of wet cleaning on Hanji (Traditional Korean paper made from mulberry trees) which is the main material used in Korean paper relics (historical paper documents). For this study, the color change and folding endurance of artificially degraded paper was analysed before and after immersion wet cleaning. The result showed that washing each twice in 30 minutes is the most appropriate method for obtaining cleaning efficiency and material stability.

  • A structure in which GaAs and AlGaAs epilayers are formed with a metal organic chemical vapor deposition equipment on a GaAs wafer similar to the structure of making a vertical cavity surface emitting laser is used. Photonic Quantum Ring (PQR) devices that are naturally generated by 3D resonance are manufactured by chemically assisted ion beam etching technology, which is a dry etching method. A new technology that can be fabricated has been studied, and as a result, the possibility of wet etching of a solution containing phosphoric acid, hydrogen peroxide and methanol was investigated, and the device fabrication by applying this method are also discussed. In addition, the spectrum of the fabricated optical device was measured, and the results were theoretically analyzed and compared with the wavelength value obtained by the measurement. It is expected that the PQR device will be able to model cells in a three-dimensional shape or be applied to the display field.

  • Toxicity identification and quantification are important factors to evaluate the effect of industrial effluent on the aquatic environment. In order to measure the potential and real toxicity of mixed chemicals in the effluents, the biological method (i.e., WET test) should be used as well as chemical analysis method. In this study, we conducted WET test for various kinds of industrial effluents using aquatic organisms such as water flea (Daphnia magna), algae (Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata), fish (Oryzias latipes, Danio rerio), and microorganism (Vibrio fisheri). In addition, we carried out chemical analysis and TIE (Toxicity Identification Evaluation) for effluents in order to identify the substances causing toxicity. Among the 30 kinds of wastewater, S13 showed the highest eco-toxicity and $Ca^{2+}$ and $Cl^-$ ion were suspected as major compounds causing toxicity for aquatic organisms. In order to confirm these suspected compounds, various confirmation procedures need to be carried out.

  • In this study, a new wet etching method and the solution for thinning the glass with the thickness below $100{\mu}m$ were investigated. For the preparation of etching solution with low hydrofluoric acid, it was effective to use $NH_4F$ or $NH_4HF_2$ as a main ingredient with the addition of sulfuric acid or nitric acid. Influence of the composition of mixed acid solution and the temperature on the etching rate was investigated. The addition of anionic surfactant provides the function to prevent the adhesion of sludge generated by the etching reaction. A new wet etching pilot device equipped with streaming generation parts was used to test etching of commercial non-alkali glass and soda lime glass. The non-alkali glass with the thickness of 640 ${\mu}m$ and soda lime glass with the thickness of $500{\mu}m$ were etched to $45{\mu}m$ and $100{\mu}m$, respectively, by using the pilot device. After the etching by pilot device, the roughness degree of the glass surface was maintained at $0.01{\sim}0.02{\mu}m$.

  • Recent developments in the synthesis of nanomagnesia of controlled sizes and shapes that are suitable for various applications are reviewed. Two main methods, based on liquid-phase synthesis, i.e., chemical methods and bio-based methods, are used to synthesize nanomagnesia. Conventionally, nanomagnesia was synthesized by chemical methods such as coprecipitation, sol-gel, combustion method, and so on using different chemical agents and stabilizers which later on become responsible for several biological risks because of the toxicity of used chemicals. Bio-based protocols are growing as another environmental friend method for the synthesis of various nanostructures especially nanomagnesia using biomass, plant extracts, alga, and fungi as a source of precursor material. The ideal method should offer better control of textural properties of nanostructures and decrease the necessity for purification of the synthesized nanoproducts, which sequentially removes the use of large amounts of chemicals and organic solvents and manipulation of products that are unsafe to the environment. Finally, the broad applicability of nanomagnesia in diverse areas is presented. Employment of nanomagnesia reported in several laboratory and industrial fields are valued from the standpoint of the significance of these issues for technological requests, as described in the literature. Nanomagnesia has various applications such as antimicrobial performance, removing pollutants, batteries application, and catalysis.
