Learning Experiences in Expressive Writing to Improve Psychological and Emotional Wellbeing

  • Purpose: People must express their feelings and thoughts to maintain mental health and stability. Expressing one's emotions, experiences, and thoughts in writing relieves inner feelings, promotes self-exploration, and improves individual well-being, resulting in a pleasant state on physical, mental, and social levels. This study aims to reveal the learning experiences of university students who participated in a self-expressive writing course to improve their well-being. Method: To explore the learning experiences of university students who took a self-expressive writing course, this study used qualitative research methods to analyze the students' written reflection notes. Results: Self-expressive writing was found to resolve university students' negative emotions, regulate their emotions, improve their self-reflection and self-awareness, contributing to their problem-solving skills and ability to set new goals, and strengthen their social communication. The meaning of this class experience can be summarized as healing, awareness, reflection, change, and growth. Conclusion: The results of this study provide concrete data on expressive writing classes and are valuable when designing the writing programs.

대학생의 신체 및 정신 건강과 생활스트레스와의 관계 (치기공과, 치위생과 대학생 중심으로) (The Relationship between Physical/Mental health and life stress of college students (Focusing on department of dental laboratory technology and dental hygiene))

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship of the general characteristics of health-related majors to their life expectancy scale, depression scale, health perception scale, subjective wellbeing scale, somatic symptom scale and college life stress scale. And it's also meant to analyze influential factors for their stress about college life. Methods: The subjects in this study were the students who were in the department of dental laboratory technology and the department of dental hygiene at a college located in the region of Iksan, North Jeolla Province. Data were gathered in November and December, 2012. The life expectancy scale, depression scale, health perception scale, subjective wellbeing scale, physical symptom scale, somatic symptom scale and college life stress scale of the general characteristics were analyzed by t-test and one way analyses of variance (ANOVA) and the Duncan's multiple range test at the 95% confidence level to assess the statistical significance. And stepwise multiple regression analysis was conducted to determine what factors would affect the stress of the students about college life. The data were analyzed with the windows ver. 12.0(SPSS GmbH, Germany) statistical software program. Results: Among the general characteristics, there were significant differences according to gender and age in all the variables that were life expectancy scale, depression scale, health perception scale, subjective wellbeing scale, physical symptom scale and college life stress scale. 61.3% of the students responded they slept for six hours or less, and the respondents who slept for six hours or less scored significantly statistically lower in health perception scale, subjective wellbeing scale and physical symptom scale. As for college life stress, the respondents who got depressed more often, whose subjective peace or happiness was lower, whose life expectancy was lower, who had worse physical symptoms, whose living standard was lower and whose academic year was lower were under heavier stress about their college lives. Conclusion: As the worse physical health and worse mental health(life expectancy, depression, health perception, subjective wellbeing and physical symptoms, etc.) of the college students led to heavier stress about college life, how to promote their physical health and mental health should discreetly be considered, and every necessary measure should be taken to improve their physical and mental health.

베이비붐 세대의 사회적 자본이 실제적 안녕감에 미치는 영향 심리적 정체성의 조절 효과를 중심으로 (The Effect of Social Capital of Baby Boomers on Practical Well-Being Focused on the Modulating Effect of Psychological Identity)

  • 본 연구는 베이비붐 세대의 사회적 자본이 심리적 정체성과 실제적 안녕감에 미치는 영향을 알아보고자 대구시에 거주하는 노인복지관과 문화센터 이용중인 286명을 대상으로 실증 조사하였다. 연구 결과, 베이비붐 세대의 사회적 자본의 신뢰(t=6.893, p<.05), 참여(t=5.157, p<.05), 네트워크(t=8.093, p<.05), 규범 및 호혜성(t=4.787, p<.05)은 실제적 안녕감에 유의한 영향을 미치고, 사회적 자본의 신뢰가 실제적 안녕감에 미치는 영향에서 심리적 정체성에 따른 조절효과(t=2.023, p<.05)를 보이는 것으로 나타나 부분 채택되었다. 이러한 결과는 급속한 경제성장기 속에서 쌓은 사회적 유대와 가족 친척간의 돈독한 신뢰관계가 사회적 자본에 대한 긍정적인 기대심리와 작용하여 실제적 안녕감에 중요한 영향을 미치며, 신뢰관계가 높고 심리적 정체성이 상위일수록 실제적 안녕감 또한 높다는 것을 의미한다. 따라서 은퇴 시점에서 사회적 역할의 상실과 활동 축소 등으로 심리적 정체성이 낮아질 경우 실제적 안녕감이 떨어질 수 있다는 점에서 이들이 참여할 수 있는 다양한 교류 프로그램과 단체 활동 및 봉사활동 프로그램에의 참여를 증진시킬 수 있는 방안이 마련되어야 한다. 현재 베이비부머 세대들의 대다수는 노후에 대한 실질적인 대비 부족으로 국가의 제도적 혜택마저 제대로 보장받지 못하는 현실에서 이들을 위한 국가 복지적 관점에서의 제도적 보완이 요구됨을 시사한 것으로 평가할 수 있다.

청소년 안녕감이 진로결정 자기효능감에 미치는 영향 및 지역사회자본의 매개효과 -학교부적응 청소년 대상으로- (The Effects of Youth Well-being on Career Decision Self-efficacy with Mediation Effect of Community Social Capital -for School-maladjusted Youth-)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 학교부적응 청소년을 대상으로 청소년 안녕감이 진로결정 자기효능감에 미치는 영향 및 지역사회자본의 매개효과에 대하여 파악하는데 있다. 연구대상은 울산광역시의 학교부적응 청소년 116명을 대상으로 실시하였다. 분석방법은 R 프로그램을 사용하여 요인분석과 신뢰도분석을 토대로 빈도분석, 기술통계 분석, 상관분석, 회귀분석을 통한 3단계 매개효과 분석과 Sobel 검정을 실시하였다. 연구결과 첫째, 청소년 안녕감은 진로결정 자기효능감에 유의미한 정(+)적 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 청소년 안녕감이 진로결정 자기효능감에 미치는 영향에 대하여 지역사회자본의 부분매개효과가 확인되었다. 이는 학교부적응 청소년의 청소년 안녕감이 높아지고, 다양하며 유의미한 정(+)적 지역사회자본이 많을수록 진로결정 자기효능감이 높아진다는 것을 의미하는 것이다. 이러한 결과를 종합해 볼 때, 청소년 안녕감을 높일 수 있는 교육 프로그램의 개발과 활용 및 청소년의 심리적 특성을 반영한 진로탐색과 결정에 도움을 주는 전문화된 상담서비스의 체계적인 개입이 필요하다. 따라서 학교부적응 청소년의 진로결정 자기효능감 능력을 향상시키기 위해서는 청소년 안녕감의 강화가 필요하며 이를 위해 지역사회자본을 통한 다양한 전략이 마련되어야 하겠다.

에어로빅운동 기간중 위약처치가 신체적성과 심리적 안정감에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of the Placebo on the Physical Fitness and the Psychological Wellbeing during Aerobic Exercise)

  • This study was performed to evaluate the effect of placebo(emotional stimulus) on physical fitness and psychological wellbeing. The subjects for the study were devided into two groups. One experimental group received placebo and the other control group did not receive. Each group was composed of 15 women. The subjects continued aerobic exercise for an hour each time, three times a week, for eight weeks. The enhancement of physical fitness has been evaluated by body weight, BP, pulse rate, skinfold thickness, circumference of waist and hip, body fat, % body fat, lean body mass, % lean body mass they were measured three times every 4 weeks. Also to evaluate the enhancement of psychological wellbeing, the self-esteem and self-perception were measured. The results can be summarized as follows : 1. The % body fat of experimental group decreased significantly than that of control group(p<0.1). 2. The % lean body mass of experimental group decreased significantly than that of control group(p<0.1). 3. There was no significant difference of other physical fitness factors between experimental group and control group. 4. There was no significant difference of self-esteem between experimental group and control group. 5. There was no significant difference of self-perception between experimental group and control group. From these results, it may be concluded that placebo(emotional stimulus) which received during aerobic exercise period is partially effective in the enhancement of the physical fitness.

율동적 동작 프로그램이 우울성향 중년여성의 정서적 건강에 미치는 효과 (The Effect of Dance Movement Program on Psychological Health in Middle Age Women)

Psychological wellbeing, Middle aged women, Wellbeing with depression tendency, 율동적 동작 프로그램, 우울성향 중년여성 %600an This study was designed to confirm the effects of the Dance Movement Program on psychological health in middle-age women with depression tendency. 67 women with mile to moderate depression scoring between 16-25 were selected among 235 responded to CES-D (Radloff, 1977, Cho and Kim, 1993). The 46 volunteered to participate in the study were assigned the control. 7 attritions occurred during the course of the experiment leaving thirty-nine subject : nineteen experimental and twenty control, for the final analysis. Research subjects revealed to be homogenous demographically and by health-related variables. The 50-minute Dance Movement Program was performed by the experimental group 3 times a week for eight weeks, from October 6 to November 29, 1997. Depression, life satisfaction, self efficacy were measured before and after the course of Dance Movement Program. Plasma serotonin was measured to identify its relationship with depression, Homogeneity tests revealed satisfactory level on relevant research variables. Data were analyzed by $x^2$-test, paired and unpaired t-tests. The results are as follows : 1) The hypothesis that depresson score of experimental group will decreased than control group was supported by t-test(t=2.20, P=.0021) 2) The hypothesis that life satisfaction score of experimental group will increased than control group was supported by t-test(t=1.42, P=.0049). 3) The hypothesis that self-efficacy score of experimental group will increased than control group was not supported by t-test(t=6.20, P=.0616). 4) The hypothesis that level of plasma serotonin will increased than control group was not supported by t-test(t=1.88, P=.0524) Thus, the effects of the Dance Movement Program for the improvement of psychological health gram for the improvement of psychological health for the middle-aged women with depression tendency are scientifically confirmed by this study.

스파시설에 관한 기초 연구 (A Basic Study on the Spa Facility)

  • Wellbeing is a new trend to modern people and Spa facilities are an appropriate space to them seeking a wellbeing life. Spa facilities will be increased in demand as a value of a public welfare and wellbeing life and the study of them is required. Therefore this study was to analysed domestic and foreign spa programs and characteristic spaces. When synthesizing many spa programs they were divided into three parts: hydrotherapy as a healing therapy using water, touch therapy as a type of massage using a manual and subsidiary equipment and mind therapy to heal spirit. Space of spa facilities were divided into three parts: the supporting part, the relaxing and mediating parts and the room for therapy. The supporting parts included a front desk, a consulting room, lockers, bath room and acceptance rooms etc and they were arranged in entrance space generally. The rooms for therapy were composed with a room for hydrotherapy using water, rooms for touch therapy and rooms for mind therapy refreshing a spirit and they were established contiguously being used efficiently. The mediating parts provided spaces for relaxation and waiting place between therapies and they were established in independent space generally but they are paid attention at good spaces forming the community of visitors and giving a characteristic images for the spa. Spa has been divided into several types in accordance with age of visitors for example children, young people, middle aged people and aged people. It has equipped with complex functions from welfare to medical. Therefore it is thought that many studies of each facilities become accomplished to propose suitable interior design.

재가 암 환자의 증상관리를 위한 심리교육 중재효과 (The Effect of Psychoeducational Intervention for Symptom Management of Home Cancer Patient)

  • Purpose: The study was to develop psychoeducational intervention and identify its effect for symptom management of home cancer patient. Method: Study subjects were 24 patients in control group and 18 patients in experimental group. In experimental group, individualized psychoeducation was done after pretest and then continued to educate and consult through calling by telephone once a week for 4 weeks. The data were collected using several tools such as symptom distress by McCorkle(2000). Physical functioning, a part of Medical Outcome Study by Ware and Sherbouine(1992) and QOL- cancer patient version by Ferrell and Grant(1995) from 18th of Feb. to 30th of July. Data were analysed to ${\chi}^2$ test and t test using SAS VER8.12. Results: The mean score of symptom distress was 21.6 in experimental group and 24.2 in control group. Experimental group was shown lower score than control group. Physical functioning of experimental group was better as mean score 23.3 than 20.6 in control. Psychological wellbeing was 69.7 in experimental group and 66.1 in control group. Social wellbeing was 32.2 in experiment and 25.8 in control. Psychosocial wellbeing of experimental group was higher than control group. However there was no significant differernce between two groups among these variables. Conclusion: The psycho educational intervention was not made symptom mangement, physical functioning, and psycho social wellbeing improved but shown positive tendency. It is expected having a statistically significant finding if enlarged sample size and prolonged the intervention term in future. Therefore it is suggested psycho educational intervention study do repeatedly.

간호대학생의 호스피스인식과 영적안녕이 임종간호태도에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Perception on Hospice and Spiritual Wellbeing on Terminal Care Attitude of Nursing Students)

  • 본 연구는 간호대학생의 호스피스인식이 임종간호태도에 미치는 영향을 확인하고 이들의 관계에서 영적안녕의 매개효과를 알아보는 것이 목적이다. 연구 목적을 달성하기위해 344명의 간호대학생을 대상으로 설문 조사하였으며 SPSS 21과 AMOS 21로 결과를 분석하였다. 연구결과로는 첫째, 간호대학생의 임종태도는 호스피스인식 및 영적안녕과 모두 정의 상관관계를 가지는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 임종간호태도에 영향을 미치는 변인을 모두 고려하여 분석한 결과, 연구모형과 구조모형의 적합도는 모두 매우 양호한 수준으로 나타났다. 마지막으로 간호대학생의 임종간호태도에 호스피스인식은 긍정적인 영향을 미치며 이들의 관계에서 영적태도는 매개효과를 가지는 것으로 나타났다. 이와 같은 연구결과를 토대로 간호대학생의 호스피스에 대한 효과적인 간호에 대한 함의를 제시하고자 한다.
