This study aimed at examining school adjustment of the children raised by grandparents, by comparing academic achievement and general classroom and school behaviors of the children in grandparent families with those of their peers from other types of families such as two-parents, single parent, kinship and institution care, and single parent with grandparent(s). Three hundred and twenty four 2nd graders md two hundred ninety eight 5th graders were surveyed for this study. It was found that children raised solely by grandparents did quite well, relative to children in traditional families where two parents were present. • More consumers are choosing pro-consumption for social change, but scholars know little about why and how consumers engage in pro-consumption behaviors. A newly emerged pro-consumption behavior called "Don-jjul," which appeared during the COVID-19 pandemic in South Korea, refers to compensating businesses that have engaged in altruistic actions by boosting their sales. This study used Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) of topic modeling, sentiment analysis, and in-depth interviews to investigate the perceptions, motivations, and emotions regarding Don-jjul. As a result, the study revealed pro-consumers' perceptions of Don-jjul as "collective pro-consumption for contributing to social well-being." Don-jjul has two main motives: "supporting underdogs with difficulties" and "compensating good businesses economically." We also found two ambivalent emotions evoked by Don-jjul: "respect for good business owners" and "concerns regarding the misuse of Don-jjul." The results contribute to pro-consumption research for social well-being, providing business opportunities for retailers and CSR managers with a deep understanding of pro-consumers.

  • Purpose: According to Lazarus & Folkman (1984), appraising a stressor as a threat is associated with negative psychological and physical adjustment, whereas appraising a stressor as a challenge is positive psychological and physical adjustment. This study examined how cognitive appraisal of PTCA(heart disease threat and treatment appraisal) related to the cardiac risk reduction behaviors(smoking cessation, low salt and low cholesterol diet, regular exercise and stress management) 6 weeks following discharge. Method: Data were collected from 50 subjects with successful primary PTCA. Result: Heart disease threat was negative related to treatment appraisal (r=-0.240, p=0.046). Psychological well-being was negative related to heart disease threat (r=-0.317, p=0.012) and positive related to treatment appraisal(r=0.402, p=0.002). The cardiac risk reduction behaviors score was negative related to heart disease threat(r= -0.296, p=0.018) and positive related to treatment appraisal(r=-0.291, p=0.020). Conclusion: More negative appraisal was related to lower the cardiac risk reduction behaviors score. But more positive appraisal was related to higher the cardiac risk reduction behaviors score. So, there is a need to develop the cognitive-behavioral intevention that increase the coping strategy to replace with positive appraisal.

A total of 241 Korean junior high school students completed a happiness questionnaire consisting of subjective well-being, psychological well-being, self-esteem, and optimism at the beginning of the school year. Four months later, their popularity and social behaviors were measured using self-reports and peer-nomination measures. Happy male students were more likely to become nominated as a preferred friend by their peers at the end of the semester; happy females were evaluated by their peers as being more creative than others. Happy adolescents also viewed themselves as being more sociable, popular, and having more leadership than others.
