  • Inconel 625 is useful in variety of industrial applications because of the resistance to attack in various corrosive media at temperatures from $200^{circ}C$ to over $1090^{circ}C$, in combination with good low- and high-temperature mechanical strength. Recently, this material is also used widely in offshore process piping in order to extend the maintenance term and improve the quality of anti-corrosion. Nowadays, the flux cored wire is developed and applied for the better productivity in several welding position including the vertical position. In this study, the weldability and weldment characteristics of inconel 625 are considered in FCAW weld associated with the several shielding gases in viewpoint of welding productivity.

  • Although leakage at a low carbon steel pipe made by electrical resistance welding (ERW) was reported due to grooving corrosion, the cause for the corrosion has not yet been cleared. In order to clarify the main cause, failure analysis on the leaked pipe was carried out, followed by metallographic investigation and corrosion test for the various ERW pipe made with different welding heat input. The microstructure, particularly inclusion content, of the weldment is dependant on the welding heat input applied. For an improper low heat input, the amount of inclusion at the weld was high. High inclusion content accelerated grooving corrosion at the weld. It is therefore that welding heat input should be controlled based on the carbon content of the pipe in order to improve the corrosion resistance of the ERW pipe.

  • Vibration occurs due to the wind and vehicles, etc., in the field welded joints of steel bridges. However, the effect of vibration on the fatigue strength of field welded joints in steel bridge are not yet clearly understood. In this paper, the effect of vibration on the fatigue strength of welded joints was elucidated in order to improve reliability in the field welded joints of steel bridge. The base material used in this investigation was SM 490A steel of weldable grade. Flux Cored Arc Welding(FCAW) process was used to fabricate the doubte 'V' butt joints. Welding was performed on the steel under the mechanical vibration of given frequency. The applied frequency was resonant frequency. Also, weldments formed under no vibration were fabricated. Fatigue tests were conducted using a servo hydraulic controlled 50ton1 capacity UTM with a frequency of 5Hz under constant amplitude loading.

  • the horizontal corrosion fatigue tester has been developed for investigating environmental strength. Using this tester, we investigated about corrosion fatigue caracteristic for A106 GrB steel weldments in 3.5% synthetic seawater and room temperature. Considered parameter is only frequency of 1,3 and 5Hz. and Corrosion fatigue crack length was measured by DC potential difference method. From the results, we could find that the horizontal corrosion fatiued tester could be well applied to estimation of fatigue strength. and In case of 5Hz, corrosion fatigue crack growth path of A106 GrB steel weldment was transgranular, and of 1 and 3Hz showed that transgranular and intergranular was mixed. Also, Corrosion fatigue crack growth caracteristic values estimated in each frequency were C=9.33 x 10-9 and m=2.93 in 1Hz, C=9.77x10-10 and m=3.47 in 3Hz, C=1.02x10-10 and m=4.05 in 1Hz

  • Demand of the clean and convenient natural gas has continuously increased with recognizing of the environment problem since liquefied natural gas was introduced in Korea. Clean fuel natural gas was supplied to each city through high tensile strength pipeline connected by welding. Grades of pipeline were divided into the high and middle pressure according to supply pressure. Pipeline was welded mainly SMA welding process due to its easy handling, the other welding process was adopted according to the constructing condition. We were examined on the microstructure variation and mechanical properties of weld metal for high pressure pipeline, API 5L X-42.

  • Study of weldment fracture behavior includes thermal analysis, residual stress analysis, and fracture analysis. The J-integral loses its path-independency in a residual stress field. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a program to calculate the J-integral in a welded plate. In this study, theoretical formulation and program were developed for the evaluation of the J-integral at the crack tip of weldments. To verify equations and program, welded thin plate and thick plate were used to calculate residual stress and the J-integral.

  • In this paper, a practical design criteria for judgement of crack occurrence in weldments is presented as a function of typical welding parameters, such as diffusible hydrogen, restraint intensity, and preheating temperature. The elastic analyses using the finite element techniques are employed in order to quantify the restraint intensities, numerically. Systematic experiments are also conducted in order to investigate the propensity of crack to typical welding parameters. The results of numerical estimation using the proposed method for the experimental specimens show the usefulness as a practical tool in welding induced crack problems with extensive uncertainties. • In this study, the residual stress and the acoustic emission Charactreistics from fatigue crack propagation were investigated, bused on the welded material of STS316L. The residual stress of welding locations could be evaluated by ultrasonic parameters, such as L$_{CR}$ wave velocity and L$_{CR}$ wave frequency; the residual stress between base metal and weld metal was evaluated. In the fatigue tests, three types of signals were observed, regardless of specimen condition, base metal, and weld metal. Based on NDE analysis of AE signals by the time-frequency analysis method, it should also be possible to evaluate, in real-time, the crack propagation and final fracture process, resulting from various damages and defects in welded structural members.

  • For the $\beta$=1 specimen with constant thickness, Crack growth rate is smoothly increasing in the a-N curve. On the other hand for $\beta$=2 specimen with various thickness, the inflection point is observed in crack growth rate near the thickness interface. da/dN before the inflection point is increased, and da/dN after the point is decreased, compared to the $\beta$=1 specimen. da/dN near the thickness interface is approached zero. The descending point was observed earlier as $\beta$ increased. Considering the relation between da/dN and λ, the crack propagation rates for the case of $\beta$ =1 incrased almost linearly, however, the crack propagation rates for $\beta$=2,3 decreased more rapidly near the thickness interface. Additionally, the decreased point in da/dN for $\beta$=3 is farther from the thickness interface than the case for $\beta$ =2.

  • Partial penetration welding joint refers to the groove weld that applies to the one side welding which does not use steel backing and to both side welding without back gouging, that is, the partial penetration welding joint leaves an unwelded portion at the root of the welding area. In this study, we analyzed the residual stress and fracture on the thick metal plates that introduced the partial penetration welding method. According to the above-mentioned welding method, we could draw a conclusion that longitudinal stress and traverse stress occurred around the welding area are so minimal and do not affect any influence. We also performed the fracture behavior evaluation on the partial penetration multi pass welding with 25.4 mm thick plate by using the J-integral, which finally led us the conclusion that the partial penetration multi-pass welding method is more applicable and effective in handling the root face with less than 6.35 mm.
