Contemporary architectural structures have diverse and complex forms. Such structural variety demands requisite performance from the connections in the steel structure so that the latter could resist a horizontal force, such as an earthquake. The connections are the all-important components that create the discontinuous form and that support stress concentration, determining the stiffness and toughness of the entire steel frame. In this study, a real-scale column-to-beam connection was constructed in the 600MPa-grade high-strength and high-performance steel, to test its behavior. Its material and welding characteristics were examined in this study, and its structural performance was analyzed by conducting seismic-resistance tests on the full-scale, cross-shaped column-to-beam welded connections with non-scallop, ordinary-scallop, and reinforced-scallop details. The weld ability of the high-strength, high-performance steel was also evaluated, and data regarding the seismic design for practical application were provided.

Funtional metal prototypes are often required in numerous industrial applications. These components are typically needed in the early stage of a project to determine form, fit and function. Recent R/P(Rapid Prototyping) part are made of soft materials such as plastics, wax, paper, these master models cannot be employed durable test in real harsh working environment. Parts by direct metal rapid tooling method, such as laser sintering, by now are hard to get net shape, pores of the green parts of powder casting method must be infiltrated to get proper strength as tool, and new type of 3D direct tooling system combining fabrication welding arc and cutting process is reported by song etc. But a system which can build directly 3D parts of high performance functional material as metal part would need long period of system development, massive investment and other serious obstacles, such as patent. In this paper, through the rapid tooling process as silicon rubber molding using R/P master model, and fabricate wax pattern in that silicon rubber mold using vacuum casting method, then we tranlsated the wax patterns to numerous metal prototypes by new investment casting process combined conventional investment casting with rapid pototyping & rapid tooling process. with this wax-injection-mold-free investment casting, we developed new investment casting process of fabricating numerous functional metal prototypes from one master model, combined 3-D CAD, R/P and conventional investment casting and tried to expect net shape measuring total dimension shrinkage from R/P part to metal part.
In the steel structure of high-rise buildings, a connection analysisand a column design have been made after welding and bolting suitable gaps. Each country, however, has different codes, and such differences are very big. American steel has been designed according to a code that all axial loads can be carried from the upper parts to the lower parts as determined by the designer, but Korean and Japanese steel have been designed by 1/4 of the standard of all axial loads. In this paper, a metal touch experiment was done as an intermediation parameter with a connecting location and a connecting method for economic and constructive efficiency. Every specimen is tested by a low-to-high displacement control to grasp ultimate strength, displacement, the connection's lateral deflection, and stress. The results of the test were compared and analyzed.

접합에 사용한 부품은 1608Chip 으로 MLCC(Multi Layer Ceramic Capacitor 이하, 1608C) 와 Chip Resister(이하, 1608R)을 사용하였으며, 이 두 부품의 전극부위에 Sn-10wt%Pb(이하 Sn-l0PB), Sn을 각각 도금하였다.

A remote $CO_2$ laser system can rapidly change both the distance and the direction of the laser beam by moving a lens and rotating mirrors. It is then easy to weld complex patterns of weld lines. A conventional spot weld joint specimen and a remote $CO_2$ laser weld joint specimen with complex weld line patterns were prepared and tested both statically and dynamically. The relationships between the fatigue strength, i. e. the maximum cyclic force, and the fatigue life were obtained. The fatigue strength of the tested welded joints at two million cycles was found to be approximately 10% of the static strength. Furthermore, it was observed that the fatigue fracture mode changed with the level of the applied cyclic force. The fatigue crack origins were confirmed as the highest stress points found in the structural analysis. The maximum cyclic stress for different weld patterns converges as the fatigue life approaches two million cycles.

Primary water stress corrosion cracking (PWSCC) has been observed around the weld region of control rod drive mechanism (CRDM) nozzles in nuclear power plants overseas. The weld has a J-shaped groove and it connects the CRDM nozzle with the reactor vessel upper head (RVUH). It is a dissimilar metal weld (DMW), because the CRDM is made of alloy 600 and the RVUH is made of carbon steel. In this study, finite element analysis (FEA) was performed to estimate the stress condition around the weld region. Generally, it is known that a high tensile region is more susceptible to PWSCC. FEA was performed as for the condition of welding, hydrostatic test and normal operation successively to observe how the residual stress changes due to plant condition. The FEA results show that a high tensile stress region is formed around the weld starting point on the inner surface and around the weld stop point on the outer surface.

The standard master curve (MC) approach has the major limitation because it is only applicable to homogeneous datasets. In nature, materials are macroscopically inhomogeneous and involve scatter of fracture toughness data due to various deterministic material inhomogeneity and random inhomogeneity. RPV(reactor pressure vessel) steel has different fracture toughness with varying distance from the inner surface of the wall due to cooling rate in manufacturing process; deterministic inhomogeneity. On the other hand, reference temperature, $T_0$, used in the evaluation of fracture toughness is acting as a random parameter in the evaluation of welding region; random inhomogeneity. In the present paper, four regions, the surface, 1/8T, 1/4T and 1/2T, were considered for fracture toughness specimens of KSNP (Korean Standard Nuclear Plant) SA508 Gr. 3 steel to investigate deterministic material inhomogeneity and random inhomogeneity. Fracture toughness tests were carried out for four regions and three test temperatures in the transition region. Fracture toughness evaluation was performed using the bimodal master curve (BMC) approach which is applicable to the inhomogeneous material. The results of the bimodal master curve analyses were compared with that of conventional master curve analyses. As a result, the bimodal master approach considering inhomogeneous materials provides better description of scatter in fracture toughness data than conventional master curve analysis. However, the difference in the $T_0$ determined by two master curve approaches was insignificant.

In physical engineering, the turbulent flow on the surface roughness is very important. With the welding, design and paint, the hull surface roughness at each stage in the various aspects are important factors to be considered. In this study, the hull surface roughness geometry that was generalized to the PIV was applied to the tank test. The roughness of the surface changed the distance of the interval. Experimental velocity is Re = $1.1{\times}10^4$, Re = $2.0{\times}10^4$ and Re = $2.9{\times}10^4$. The turbulent intensity at the time-average were examined The roughness coefficient occurred with increasing turbulence intensities was stronger. The turbulence intensity away from the roughness in the shape was zero. The variation of turbulence intensity at the experimental flow conditions change was not affected.
In this study, CT specimens were prepared hem ASTM SA516 which was used for pressure vessel plates for room and low temperature service. And we got the following characteristics from fatigue crack growth test carried out in the environment of room and low temperature at $25^{\circ}C$, -3$0^{\circ}C$, -6$0^{\circ}C$, -8$0^{\circ}C$, -l$0^{\circ}C$ and -l2$0^{\circ}C$ and in the range of stress ratio of 0.1, 0.3 by means of opening mode displacement. At the constant stress ratio, the threshold stress intensity factor range $\Delta K_{th}$ in the early stage of fatigue crack growth ( Region I ) and stress intensity factor range $\Delta$K in the stable of fatigue crack growth ( Region II) was increased in proportion to descend temperature. It assumed that the fatigue resistance characteristics and fracture strength at low temperature is considerable higher than that of room temperature in the early stage and stable of fatigue crack growth region. The straight line slope relation of logarithm da/dN - $\Delta$K in Region II, that is, the fatigue crack growth exponent m increased with descending temperature at the constant stress ratio. It assumed that the fatigue crack growth rate da/dN is rapid in proportion to descend temperature in Region H and the cryogenic-brittleness greatly affect a material with decreasing temperature.
