Today there is a growing range of applications for Concrete-Filled Steel Tube (CFT) member because of its superior performance. Ductility estimation test of concrete-filled seismic resistant steel tubular columns, subjected to axial and cyclic lateral load, was carried out in this study. Seismic resistant steel tubes are manufactured using SN400B plates by a two-seam welding at center of the column width for cold press-formed shape plates of two pieces. A total of eight specimens were manufactured and tested with the parameters of width-thickness ratio of steel tubular column, axial load ratio, and loading conditions to act axial and cyclic lateral load two dynamic actuators were used. From test results, flexural strength, deformation capacity, energy dissipation capacity, and ductility behavior of columns were analyzed.

In order to detect the internal defects which occur in welding parts of pressure vessel and structures, radiographic testing and ultrasonic testing is applied. However, because of the risks of radiation exposure and film processing, radiographic testing takes a relatively long time to verify the test results and it has affected in the production process. Typically, the manual ultrasonic testing is not easy to reproduce the result and it is highly dependent on the tester's skills. The TOFD technique, one of the automatic ultrasonic testings is spreading alternatively. This research describes the comparing test results by applying radiographic testing and TOFD technique to a mock-up specimen incruding the flaws. The TOFD technique will contribute to improve the objective reliability of the ultrasonic technique.
This paper was composed with fatigue test of the cruciform specimens, as load carrying and non-load carrying type. It also has performed computational analyses for geometric condition of the fillet welding bead. As test results, the effect of stress ratio in the specimen was insignificant. Stress ranges were varied with R=0.1~0.2. The fatigue cracks that were found in the load carrying type specimens and most specimens welded with contact were developed at the end of welds. The fatigue strength of specimen that have fractured in maternal plate was found about ${\Delta}\sigma_c$=63.5MPa. It's about 24% less than that of the non-load carrying type specimens having about ${\Delta}\sigma_c$=83.8MPa. A category of the Fatigue design specifications which provide for cruciform details was defined grade C as a stress of the maternal member. And then, the fatigue strength to be transformed into the maternal stress was found about 78.27 MPa, it tends to be less than that of allowable fatigue strength.

The plane bending corrosiion fatigue test for the welded metal parats was performed in the air and in the natural sea water with and without applying cathodic protection. The specimens tested were the weld of SM41 steel plates, SM58 steel plates and of SM41 to SM58, which were all prepared by submerged arc welding. The main results obtained from the experiment are summarized as follows: (1) In case with SM41 and SM58 steel plates, lower value of impact strength, higher value of hardness and more noble electrode potential were observed in the welded metal part than in the HAZ and base metal. Also the lowest hardness zone in the HAZ was observed with SM58 which was not found with SM41. In case with weld specimen of SM41 to SM58, the impact strength and the electrode potential of the welded metal part showed again the lowest and most noble value but the hardness value was located between those of SM41 and SM58 base metal. (2) In the fatigue test, the specimens tested in the air and under the cathodic protection were both cracked in a purely mechanical mode, but the specimens tested without cathodic protection were cracked by the combination of mechanical fracture and electro-chemical corrosion. (3) The corrosion fatigue limit of the welded metal parts of the specimen was increased by the cathodic protection. As the protection potential was varied down to -800 mV vs. SCE the fatigue limit was increased to the value tested in the air, and the maximum fatigue limit appeared at the -1, 000 - -1, 200 mV vs. SCE. However, as the protection potential was further decreased below -1, 200 mV vs.SCE, the fatigue limit of weld of SM58 and of SM41-SM58 joining was decreased but the limit was almost constant in the case of weld of SM41. (4) It is suggested that when designing steel ship the corrosion fatigue limit of welded metal parts should be stressed as a designing strength of the structure of steel ship in addition to the conventional basis considering simply tensile strength of steel and safety factor.

JLF-1 steel (Fe-9Cr-2W-V-Ta), low activation ferritic steel, is one of the promising candidate materials fer fusion reactor applications. High temperature fatigue life and tensile strength of JLF-1 steel and its TIG welded joints were investigated at the room temperature and $400^{\circ}C$. The strength of base metal (JLF-1) is in between those of weld metal and the HAZ. When the test temperature was increased from room temperature to $400^{\circ}C$, both strength and ductility decreased for base metal, weld metal and the HAZ. The longitudinal specimens of base metal showed similar strength and ductility compared with those of the transverse specimens at room temperature and $400^{\circ}C$. Little anisotropy was observed in the JLF-1 steel base metal in terms of rolling direction. Fatigue limit of weld metal which was obtained from cross-weld specimen is 495MPa. Thus, the weld metal showed the higher fatigue limit than those of base metal at both room temperature and $400^{\circ}C$. Little anisotropy of fatigue properties was observed for JLF-1 base metal in terms of rolling direction. When the test temperature was increased from room temperature to $400^{\circ}C$, the fatigue limit of both base metal and weld metal decreased substantially.
There was extreme improvement in the processing result of weld toe, but there is possibility that the fatigue failure occurs from the weld root part where the fatigue strength became low relatively. This study did the fatigue test at the cross rib specimens which implemented a partial penetration weld to improve the fatigue strength of the weld root part. As a result of the fatigue test of the partial penetration weld and the fillet weld specimens, almost the same fatigue strength appeared. Because the fatigue failure began from toe, there was not a reinforcement effect in the weld root part by the partial penetration weld. So, it examined fatigue strength at the partial penetration welding specimens which processed toe to stop the fatigue failure of toe part. As a result, there was big fatigue strength improvement from the partial penetration weld than the fillet weld. Therefore, if fatigue crack occurrence can be restrained from toe, it thinks that the fatigue strength of the root part can improve by the partial penetration weld, after all, it thinks that the overall fatigue life can improve.
This paper introduces a new steel jacketing method for reinforced concrete columns with lap splice and evaluates its performance by a series of axial tests of concrete cylinders. At first, 45 concrete cylinders were fabricated with varying the design compressive strengths of 21, 27 and 35 MPa and, then, the part of them was jacketed with two-split-steel jackets under lateral confining pressure. The parameters in the first test were the steel jacket's thickness and the existence of adhesive between steel and concrete surface. In the second test, whole steel jackets were used to wrap cylinders with lateral pressure. Also, a double-layer jacket consisted of two steel plates was introduced; a cylinder was jacketed by two steel plates one after another. The effect of the new method was verified through comparing the results of the compressive tests for plain and jacketed cylinders. The steel jacket built following the new method showed good results of increasing the compressive strength and ductility of the jacketed cylinders with respect to the plain cylinders. The thicker steel jackets showed the more increased compressive strength, and the ductility at failure depended on the welding quality on steel jackets. The adhesive between steel and concrete surface reduced the confining effect of the steel jackets. The whole jacket showed more ductile behavior than the two-split jackets. The double-layered jackets were estimated to possess an equal performance to that of a single steel jacket having the same thickness of the double-layered jacket. Finally, the experimental results were compared with the constitutive model of steel-jacketed concrete; which showed a good agreement between the experimental results and the models.
This study explored the feasibility of utilizing an SWCNT-coated fabric sensor for the development of a wearable motion sensing device. The extent of variation in electric resistance of the sensor material was evaluated by varying the fiber composition of the SWCNT-coated base fabrics, attachment methods, number of layers, and sensor width and length. 32 sensors were fabricated by employing different combinations of these variables. Using a custom-built experimental jig, the amount of voltage change in a fabric sensor as a function of the length was measured as the fabric sensors underwent loading-unloading test with induced strains of 30 %, 40 %, and 50 % at a frequency of 0.5 Hz. First-step analysis revealed the following: characteristics of the strain-voltage curves of the fabric sensors confirmed that 14 out of 32 sensors were evaluated as more suitable for measuring human joint movement, as they yield stable resistance values under tension-release conditions; furthermore, significantly stable resistance values were observed at each level of strain. Secondly, we analyzed the averaged maximum, minimum, and standard deviations at various strain levels. From this analysis, it was determined that the two-layer sensor structure and welding attachment method contributed to the improvement of sensing accuracy.
In order to study on the corrosion characteristics of STS 304 pipeline steel weldment for gas cooling & heating system. the electrochemical polarization test and corrosion test by impressed potential in 0.5M $H_2SO_4+0.01M$ KSCN solution was carried out. Also, SEM and hardness of welding zone was measured. And then passive behavior, corrosion behavior by the impressed potential and SEM aspect and hardness behavior of base metal(BM) and heat affected zone(HAZ) for STS 304 pipe were investigated. The main results are as follows: 1) The critical anodic current density of heat affected zone(HAZ) is drained more highly than that of base metal(BM), and primary passive potential of HAZ become higher than that of BM. 2) The passive current density of TUE is drained more highly than that of BM, and passive region of BM become bigger than that of HAZ. 3) By the impressed potential, the current density of HAZ is drained more than that of BM.
Electron beam (EB) weldability of pure grade Nb sheet was studied. One of Nb sheets was as-annealed and the other was cold rolled. Microstructures, Vickers hardness, and transverse weld tensile test were carried out for the base metal, the heat affected zone (HAZ) and weld metal. In the case of the EB welds made using the annealed Nb sheeet, fine equiaxed grains and coarse grains were dominant at the base metal and the HAZ, respectively, and columnar grains were observed at the weld metal. For the EB welds made using the cold rolled Nb sheet, elongated grains in the rolling direction at the base metal, and the microstructures of the weld metal and the HAZ are similar to those of the EB welds made using the annealed Nb sheet, respectively. For both annealed and cold rolled Nb sheet, the width of the HAZs are unusually wide in spite of using high density heat source, i.e. electron beam, and the grain sizes of both HAZs are similar. When tensile test was carried out using the transverse weld specimens, the failure occurred at the HAZ for both EB welds made using Nb sheets annealed and cold rolled, respectively and the tensile strengths of both specimens were 161MPa. Vickers hardness of EB welds made using annealed Nb was 56-57 Hv at both base metal and weld metal, 52-53 Hv at the HAZ. On the other hand, Vickers hardness of EB welds made using cold rolled Nb was 97-99 Hv at the base metal, but the hardness values of weld metal were similar to those obtained at the weld metal of annealed Nb.
