팁 선단에 중공이 있는 전극을 이용한 스패터 저감 스폿 용접에 관한 연구 (A Study of Spot Welding Process to Reduce Spatter with the Hollow Tip)

  • In automotive company, a lot of researchers have investigated for the spatterless welding process during last two decades. A spatter influences on the product quality such as strength and surface states. In this paper, a hollow tip is proposed for spatterless process. An optimal size of electrode hole is obtained from a weldability evaluation of each hole diameter. Through the cross section analysis, a phenomenon that molten metal moves in the hole which located between two workpiece is observed, and this makes spatterless welding process even though current is higher. Finally, widely acceptable weld area in lobe curve is obtained by using hollow tip as compare with conventional no hollow tip. In this paper, spatterless resistance spot welding with improvement weldability and productivity is proposed by using hollow tip.

  • The hydraulic or pneumatic valve spools become essential as the important components on the production of automatic hydraulic or pneumatic as mechanical industry has been rapidly developed. The machining precision is in necessity for manufacturing the valve spools. They could be unstable in the quality by the conventional are welding. And also they have a lot of technical problems in manufacturing because their shapes are generally small. By the precision casting process such as lost wax process, the production cost may be increased. But by the friction welding technique, they will be able to be manufactured without such problems. This paper deals with the development of dissimilar friction welding optimization for the hydraulic or pneumatic valve spool by friction welding and a new approach of on real-time qualify evaluation by AE techniques.

  • The engine exhaustive valve became essential as the important element. The dissimmilar welding method of exhaustive valve head to stem was asked for manufacturing the engine exhaustive valve, for which the electric resistance are welding has been conventionally used, resulting in poor quality of the welded joint. In this paper, not only the development of optimizing of friction welding with more reliability and more applicability but also the development of in-process real-time weld qudlity(such as strength and toughness) evaluation technique by acoustic emission for friction welding of the engine exhaustive valve(SUH3-SUH35 dissimilar steels) were perfomed. The high temperature(500, 500, 600$^{circ}$C) creep properties prediction of the friction welded joint of SUH3-SUH35 was investigated relating to the initial strain meethod(ISM) as a new approach, resulting in obtaining an experimental equation of creep life prediction.

후판 부분용입 다층용접의 잔류음력 및 파괴 해석 (Residual Stress and Fracture Analysis of Thick Plate for Partial Penetration Multi-pass Weldment)

  • Partial penetration welding joint defines the groove welds that applies the one side welding which does not use steel backing and both side welding without back gouging, that is, the partial penetration welding joint leaves an unwelded portion at the root of the welding area. In this study, we analyzed the residual stress and fracture on the thick metal plates that introduced the partial penetration welding method. As results of using above mentioned welding method, we could draw a conclusion that longitudinal stress and traverse stress occurred around the welding area was so minimal and did not affect any influence. We also performed the fracture behavior evaluation on the partial penetration multi-pass welding with 25.4mm thick plate by using theJ-integral, which finally led us the conclusion that the partial penetration multi -pass welding method is more applicable and effective in handling the root face with less than 6.35mm.

스캐너와 산업용 로봇을 이용한 고속 레이저 용접에 관한 연구 (A Study on High Speed Laser Welding by using Scanner and Industrial Robot)

  • On this research, laser welding technology for manufacturing automobile body is studied. Laser welding technology is one of the important technologies used in the manufacturing of lighter, safer automotive bodies at a high level of productivity; the leading automotive manufacturers have replaced spot welding with laser welding in the process of car body assembly. Korean auto manufacturers are developing and applying the laser welding technology using a high output power Nd:YAG laser and a 6-axes industrial robot. On the other hand, the robot-based remote laser welding system was equipped with a long focal laser scanner system in robotic end effect. Laser system, robot system, and scanner system are used for realizing the high speed laser welding system. The remote laser welding system and industrial robotic system are used to consist of robot-based remote laser welding system. The robot-based remote laser welding system is flexible and able to improve laser welding speed compared with traditional welding as spot welding and laser welding. The robot-based remote laser systems used in this study were Trumpf's 4kW Nd:YAG laser (HL4006D) and IPG's 1.6kW Fiber laser (YLR-1600), while the robot systems were of ABB's IRB6400R (payload:120kg) and Hyundai Heavy Industry's HX130-02 (payload:130kg). In addition, a study of quality evaluation and monitoring technology for the remote laser welding was conducted. The welding joints of steel plate and steel plate coated with zinc were butt and lapped joints. The quality testing of the laser welding was conducted by observing the shape of the beads on the plate and the cross-section of the welded parts, analyzing the results of mechanical tension test, and monitoring the plasma intensity and temperature by using UV and IR detectors. Over the past years, Trumf's 4kW Nd:YAG laser and ABB's IRB6400R robot system was used. Nowadays, the new laser source, robot and laser scanner system are used to increase the processing speed and to improve the efficiency of processes. This paper proposes the robot-based remote laser welding system as a means of resolving the limited welding speed and accuracy of conventional laser welding systems.

  • An irradiation test of a nuclear fuel rod having external and internal tube structure was planned for a performance. To establish fabrication process satisfying the requirements of irradiation test, micro-TIG welding system for fuel rods was developed, and preliminary welding experiments for optimizing process conditions of fuel rod was performed. Fuel rods with 15.9mm diameter and 0.57mm wall thickness of cladding tubes and end caps have been used and optimum conditions of endcap welding have been selected. In this experiment, the qualification test was performed by tensile tests, helium leak inspections, and metallography examinations to qualify the endcap welding procedure. The soundness of the welds quality of a dual cooled fuel rods has been confirmed by mechanical tests and microstructural examinations.

  • Friction welding was used to weld the turbine wheel and shaft and have a good welding quality. Friction welding was conducted an the two dissimilar material, Nimonic 80A and SNCrW. The control of friction welding process parameter such as flywheel energy, interface temperature, amount of upset have an effect on the mechanical properties of the welded joint. FE simulation can be a useful tool to optimize the weld geometry and process parameters. Flash shape and thickness weld is consistent with the simulated results. Process analysis was performed by the commercial code DEFORM 2D. Mechanical property of weld joints was evaluated by microstructure, chemical component, tensile, impact, hardness test so on.

  • Corrosion and tensile properties of zircaloy-4 cladding tube having a laser welding part in elevated temperature are studied to present the criterion of quality evaluation in nuclear reactor and find the scientific basis of SCC, with laser welding method using by coupling up cladding tube to end cap. In the result of tensile test($400^{\circ}C$), the fracture is not happened in the welding part but base metal and the result of corrosion test($400^{\circ}C$ 1500psi steam), corrosion rate of the molten zone and PMZ is a little higher than the other zone.

  • Nuclear fuel assemblies for pressurized water reactors(PWR) are loaded in the reactor core throughout the residence time of three to five years. A spacer grid assembly, which is an interconnected array of slotted grid straps and is welded at the intersections to form an egg crate structure, is one of the main structural components of the nuclear fuel assembly. The spacer grid assembly is structurally required to have enough buckling strength under various kinds of lateral loads acting on the nuclear fuel assembly so as to keep the nuclear fuel assembly straight. To meet this requirement, it is necessary to weld the welding parts carefully and precisely. In this study, laser welding qualities of the spacer grid assembly welded by several welding companies, such as weld strength, weld penetration depth, and weld bead size, are examined and compared.

Defect Detection in Friction Stir Welding by Online Infrared Thermography

  • Friction Stir Welding (FSW) is a complex process with several mutually interdependent parameters. A slight difference from known settings may lead to imperfections in the stirred zone. These inhomogeneities affect on the mechanical properties of the FSWed joints. In order to prevent the failure of the welded joint it is necessary to detect the most critical defects non-destructive. Especially critical defects are wormhole and lack of penetration (LOP), because of the difficulty of detection. Online thermography is used process-accompanying for defect detecting. A thermographic camera with a fixed position relating to the welding tool measures the heating-up and the cool down of the welding process. Lap joints with sound weld seam surfaces are manufactured and monitored. Different methods of evaluation of heat distribution and intensity profiles are introduced. It can be demonstrated, that it is possible to detect wormhole and lack of penetration as well as surface defects by analyzing the welding and the cooling process of friction stir welding by passive online thermography measurement. Effects of these defects on mechanical properties are shown by tensile testing.
