질소 이면보호가스 적용성에 관한 연구 (Effect of $N_2$ back shielding gas on the property change of GTA weldment)

  • To investigate the suitability of nitrogen gas as an internal purging gas, various properties of GTA welded joints of duplex, 316L stainless steel, Cu-Ni alloy pipe using nitrogen purging gas were evaluated with reference to onew purged with argon gas. Mechanical properties evaluated by the tensile, bending test, and hardness value of welded joints with nitrogen gas purging did not show any difference those with argon gas. General and local corrosion rates of each welded joint prepared by nitrogen gas purging also showed no difference with those prepared by argon gas. Based on the present test results it is confirmed that nitrogen is a suitable purging gas for GTA welding of stainless steels and nonferrous piping systems, which can be used at lower cost instead of argon.

TIG용접에서 실드가스 종류의 변화에 따른 용접부의 변화상태 고찰 (Study on The Status of Welded Parts According to The Types of Shielding Gas in TIG Welding)

  • Tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding is commonly used in industries that require airtightness, watertightness, oiltightness, and precision. It is a non-consumable welding method that is commonly used for the welding of non-ferrous metals, but it can be used to weld most metals. The methods of TIG welding can be divided into three types. The first, manual welding is done directly on the metal by a welder with a torch. The second, semi-automatic welding, gets help from a material supplying machine, but it is conducted by a welder. Lastly, automated welding is conducted fully by a machine during its process and operation. Depending on the selection of electrode, the amount of heat that is applied to the base material and the electrode rod changes and makes the shape of welded parts different. A direct-current positive electrode was used for this study. Through the change of shielding gas type on a structural steel (SS-400) that is commonly used in industry, the composition and shape changes in welded parts were detected after welding. The heat-affected area, hardness value, and tensile strength were also identified through hardness testing and tensile testing. In this study, it was found that the higher hardness value of the heat-affected is, the weaker the tensile strength becomes.

습식 수중 아크용접봉의 국산화개발에 관한 기초연구 (A Basic Study on the Development of Domestic Underwater Wet Arc Welding Electrode)

  • Underwater wet arc welding process was experimentally investigated by using the six types of flux coated electrodes of 3.2 mm diameter and the KR-RA steel plate of 11 mm thickness as base metal. Two types of electrodes were domestic covered arc welding electrode(CR13, CR14) and another two types of wet welding electrodes(UWCS, TN20)were imported goods, and the other two type (UWX1, UWX2) were individually designed flux coated electrodes for experimental welding purpose. Main experimental results are summerized as follows: 1. It is ascertained that individually designed flux coated electrode(UWX1) could be used in practice with KR-RA steel plate for underwater wet arc bead welds. 2. Welding arc can be generated easily and considerably kept in stable using TN20 and UWX1 electrodes. 3. The micro Vickers hardness value and the portion of martensite in the HAZ were increased in all the electrodes by rapid cooling rate, but it is relatively maintain stable for UWCS, TN20 and UWX1 electrodes.

  • 레이저는 고밀도 열원으로써, 입열을 최소화하면서 고속용접이 가능한 장비이다. 특히 최근 상업화된 고출력 파이버 레이저는 특유의 발진원리 때문에 높은 빔품질과 소형화된 시스템이 가능하다. 이러한 장점들로 인해 파이버 레이저는 LNG 카고탱크에 대해 선박 내부에서 용접이 가능한 가장 적합한 열원이라고 판단된다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 선박산업에 레이저 용접기술을 적용하기 위해 파이버 레이저를 이용하여 LNG 선용 스테인리스강의 용접을 진행하였다. 연구에서 사용한 재료는 카고탱크에 사용되고 있는 오스테나이트계 스테인리스강인 두께 1.2mm의 STS304L였다. 레이저 출력 및 용접속도를 변화시켜가면서 겹치기 및 맞대기 용접을 실시한 후 용입특성을 분석하여 최적의 접합조건을 도출하였다. 그 결과 용접부에서 모재보다 우수한 기계적 성질을 얻을 수 있었다.

루트 갭과 단차에 의한 플라즈마 아크 용접성에 관한 연구 (A Study on Plasma Arc Weldability by Root Gap and Misalignment)

  • Plasma arc welding(PAW) technology is a proven process that has already been adopted by other industrial fields and recently has been considered to join the tank structure of LNG carrier. The purpose of this study is to introduce PAW process for the root welding of stainless steel pipes instead of TIG welding. There are distinctive features of the PAW compared to TIG welding; higher energy density that can increase welding speed by more than twofold, and longer arc length that can be controlled to trace seam line easily because of allowable gap between workpiece and torch. However, PAW process is also very sensitive to the root gap and misalignment due to the characteristics of long and narrow arc shape. So, we have done various experiments to establish the allowable fit-up condition by changing welding parameters including arc length, with or without filler metal, groove shape, and obtained satisfactory result.

SM570TMC 강재의 재료특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Materials Characteristics of SM570TMC Plates)

  • 건축물이 고층이 될 수록 고강도 강재의 사용요구가 증대된다. 그러나 고강도 강재는 일반 강재와는 전혀 다른 기계적 특성을 갖고 있다. 고강도 강재를 건축구조물에 적용하기 위해서는 비탄성 영역에서의 거동이 일반 강재와 동등한가를 확인해야 한다. 본 연구에서는 최근 국내에서 개발된 SM570TMC 강재를 건축구조용으로 사용하기 위해서 기계적 성질 및 용접부 특성을 평가하였다. 연속항복현상을 보이는 SM570TMC 강재는 판두께가 증대되어도 강도저감이 발생되지 않았으며, 최소 항복강도가 440MPa로 나타났다. 또한 판두께 방향으로 균일한 경도분포를 보였다. -5oC에서의 Charpy 충격값도 충분한 인성을 보였다. 용접성과 관련있는 탄소당량은 기존 건축구조용 강재보다 훨씬 낮았으며, 용접부 특성도 우수하였다.

  • SBD (Strain-based design) of pipe lines have gained world-wide attention in recent years. The present research aims to evaluate the fracture characteristics of API (America Petroleum Institute) SBD X100 girth weldment that typically applied for cold climate and deep water offshore, with the focus on the influence of heat input changing with 6kJ/cm and 10kJ/cm from GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding). At a low heat input at 6kJ/cm, the weld metal had Multi-phase matrix (Acicular ferrite + Banite + Martensite) that could fill up both fracture toughness and strength as reported previously. Also, the weld metal exhibited 859MPa YS (Yield strength), 108J impact toughness at $-40^{\circ}C$ and 0.52mm CTOD (Crack Tip Open Displacement) at $-10^{\circ}C$. These results can be satisfied with the requirement of API SBD X100 girth weldment and Alaska pipe line project.

버터링 비드를 이용한 탄소강 보수용접에서 수동 용접 프로세스의 특성 (Characteristics of manual welding process on carbon steel repair welding using buttering bead)

  • Methods of repair welding are different to production welding for welding position, welding process, welding power source, heating methods. This study investigated proper the welding process used the welding process SMAW and GTAW in the weldment of inconel filler metals. Mechanical test showed that SMAW and GTAW process had higher mechanical properties than those of material specification. Both SMAW and GTAW welding process can appy the repair welding. In comparison, GTAW welding process had more higher mechanical properties in the weldment.

  • The resistance spot welding process has been extensively used for joining of sheet metals, which are subject to variation of many process variables. Many qualitive analyses of sampled process variables have been attempted to predict nugget size. In this paper, dynamic resistance and electrode movement signal which is a good indicative of the nugget size was examined by introducing an artificial neural network estimator. An artificial neural feedforward network with back-propagation of error was applied for the estimation of the nugget size. The prediction by the neural network is in good agreement with the actual nugget size for resistance spot welding of galvanized steel. The results are quite promising in that the quantitative estimation of the invisible nugget size can be achieved without conventional destructive testing of welds.

실드 수중용접의 교계에 관한 연구 (Study on Effect of Underwater Shield Welding)

  • In this paper, an attempt has been taken for improving the weldability of wer welds of TMCP steel plate by shielding around weld arc surroundings. The principal results of this experimental investigation can be summarized as follows: 1) The cooling rates resulting from wet wlds with the developed electrode on TMCP steel plate could be lower than that of the non-shieled wet welds. 2) The metallurgical characteristics in umderwater wet welds of TMCP steel plate and the developed electrode could be improved by shielding around weld arc surroundings.
