TWB(Tailor Welded Blanks) is one of the recent techniques to reduce the weight and cost of the body members. To apply the TWB technique, we must decide the position of the welding line and the thickness of the welded blanks. Although many researchers have tried to check the formability of welded blanks, there are not so many researches from the structural point of view. In this paper, the TWB technique is applied to combine the door inner panel and the hinge face panel into one piece. The finite element structural analysis of the door assembly leads to the final design of the tailor welded door inner panel, which shows the mass reduction of 1.08kg without the sacrifice of the structural stiffness. The structural stiffness analysis includes the frame stiffness analysis, the belt line stiffness analysis, the door sagging analysis and the vibration analysis.

In this paper, the stress singularity on interface of friction welded dissimilar materials was investigated by using 2-dimensional elastic boundary element method. It is required that stress distributions and stress singularities on an interface for friction welded dissimilar materials analize to establish strength evaluation. The stress singularity index ($\lambda$) and stress singularity factor ($\Gamma$) were calculated from the results of stress analysis. The stress singularities on variations for shapes and thickness of friction welded flashes were analized and discussed. This paper suggested that the strength evalution by using the stress singularity factors as fracture parameters, considering the stress singularity on an interface edge of friction welded dissimilar materials were very useful.

Recently continuous welded rail is generally used to ensure running performances and to overcome the problems such as structural vulnerability and fastener damage at the rail expansion joint. Though the use of continuous welded rail on bridge has the advantage of decreasing the vibration and damage of rail, it still the risk of buckling and breaking of rail due to change of temperature, starting and/or breaking force, axial stress concentration and so on. So, VIC code and many methods has been developed by researchers considering rail-bridge interaction. Although there are many research concerning stability of continuous welded rail about temperature change on bridge and starting and/or breaking force, the study of continuous welded mil for earthquake load is still unsufficient. In this study, the nonlinear seismic response analysis of continuous welded rail on bridge considering soil-structure interaction, geotechnical characteristic of foundation and earthquake isolation equipment has been performed to examine the stability of continuous welded rail.

Pad-eye is connected to crane with sling. When block is lift, pad-eye have a various applied force. Applied force on pad-eye is related to sling angle. Sling angle is decided by various parameters, including pad-eye location, sling length and crane location. Welded joint on pad-eye requires strength design because sling angle changes force on pad-eye. Strength design for welded joint of pad-eye will calculate with general mechanical design and FE analysis. FE analysis would become a useful tool in the analysis of welded joint. A commercial software(ANSYS 10.0) was used in the structural strength analysis for welded joint of pad-eye.

In this study, fatigue tests were performed on longitudinal out-of-plane gusset fillet welded joints and transverse non-load-carrying cruciform rib fillet welded joints, and then applicability of hammer-peening treatment on improvement of fatigue life for fatigue damaged weld joints were investigated. Fatigue tests were carried out on three types of gusset and rib welded specimens: as-welded specimens, post-weld hammer peened specimens and hammer peened specimens at 50% of as-welded specimen's fatigue life. Before and after hammer peening treatment, the geometry of weld toes and surface stresses near weld toes were measured. As a result of hammer peening treatment, compressive residual stresses of 30-83MPa were introduced near weld toes of the gusset and rib welded joints, and 130% increase in fatigue life and fatigue limit of the welded joints could be realized by hammer peening treatment at 50% fatigue life of as-welded conditions.

Domestic dissimilar structural steels, SM 45 C and SUS304 were friction welded under optimal welding condition and the micro-artificial holes were drilled at SM 45 C base metal, SM 45 C HAZ, welded zone, SUS 304 HAZ, and SUS 304 base metal for fatigue behavior tests. In this study, the fatigue limit and the behavior of micro-crack propagation, crack propagation rate, and its dependency on stress intensity factor under the low stress level and high stress level of bending stress have been investigated. The results obtained are as follows. (1) The fatgiue strength of the portion of SM45C B.M., SM45C HAZ, welded zune, SUS304 HAZ and SUS304 B.M. on notched friction welded specimens are 20 kgf/mm$^{2}$, 32 kgf/mm$^{2}$, 27kgf/mm$^{2}$, 29kgf/mm$^{2}$, and 29kgf/mm$^{2}$, respectively. (2) The fatigue strength of welded zone of unnotched and notched specimens are 32.5kgf/mm$^{2}$, and 27kgf/mm$^{2}$, respectively. (3) Micro-crack initiation in the welded zone, HAZ, and each base metals occurrs simultaneously in front and rear of micro-hole tips in the view of the rotational directions. (4) Fatigue crack propagates more slowly in the welded zone than in another protions of specimen, regardless of the magnitude of the stress level. (5) Fatigue crack propagation rates were plotted as a function of stress intensity range. The value of m in the equation da/dN=C(.DELTA.K)$^{m}$ was found to range from 2.09-2.55 in this study.

Spot welding is very important and useful technology in fabriaction of the thin sheet structure such as the automobile, train and air craft, Because fatigue strength of the spot welding point is however considerably lower than base metal due to stress concentration at the nugget edge, reasonable fatigue strength evaluation of spot welded lap joint is very important to estimate the reliability and durability of th spot welded structure and to establish a criterion of ling life fatigue design. For reasonalbe fatigue strength evaluation, it is necessary to estimate the fatigue strength of spot welded lap joints, systematically. So far, many investigators have numerically and experimentally studied on the systematic fatigue strength estimation for various spot welded lap joints, and the methods suggested has been considerably accumulated. By the way, for applying them in practical fatigue design of the thin sheet structure fabricated by spot welding ,it is also necessary to verify their efficiency and reliability on the predicted results, Therefore, in this study, a statistical fatigue strength estimation method for spot welded lap joints was developed by using the Weibull probability distribution function. From the result, it was found that fatigue strength and fatigue life of the spot welded lap joints having various dimension were able to be statically predicted . And also, a reliable criterion for long life fatigue design of the spot welded lap joint could be established.
In this study, a fillet size for bending fatigue strength of one side fillet welded T-joint, used in box type girder and other welding structure, was investigated by bending fatigue test with or without edge preparation and burn through, with variation of joint shape. As a result, the following conclusions were obtained. (1) In one side fillet welded T-joint, the larger the leg length, the greater the bending fatigue strength. The increase in bending fatigue strength. (2) One side filet welded T-joint with edge preparation showed higher bending fatigue strength than that with twofold-large leg length and without edge preparation. (3) In one side fillet welded T-joint without edge preparation, both manual welding and automatic welding were carried out with same condition. In this case, automatic welding shoed deeper penetration and more increased horizontal leg length than manual welding, so that automatic welding offers grater bending fatigue strength. (4) For one side fillet welded T-joint without edge preparation, the ratio(h/t) of the leg length (h) and the main plate thickness (t) in which toe crack can occur was 1.2 over. (5) In one side fillet welded T-joint with edge preparation, the burn through led to reduced bending fatigue strength. However, this bending fatigue strength was higher than that of one side fillet welded T-joint without edge preparation and with a larger leg length.
The purpose of the study is to evaluate fracture toughness on the Laser and the electron beam welded joints of high tensile steels (HT500, HT550, HT650) by using 3-point bend CTOD and Charpy impact test. WM (weld metal) CTOD tests have been carried out using two kinds of CTOD specimen, the Laser beam welding (108mm length, and 24mm width, and 12mm thickness) and the electron beam welding (l71mm length, and 38mm width, and 19mm thickness). WM Charpy impact specimen is a standard V-notch type, and the temperature of the experiment is changed from -45 to 20 degree of centigrade. FE-analysis is also performed in order to investigate the effect of stress-strain fields on fracture characteristics. Results of the standard V-notch Charpy test are influenced by strength mis-match effect and the absorbed energy vE depends on crack path, and The transition temperature of Laser beam welded joints is more higher than that of electron beam welded joints. Results of the 3-point bend test give low critical CTOD and the crack path is in the weld metal of al specimens. These results indicate fracture toughness characteristics of the welded joints and transition temperature of HT500 are similar both a Laser beam welded joint and an electron beam welded joint. But the fracture toughness and the transition temperature of the electron beam welded joints of HT550 and HT650 are higher than those o the Laser beam welded joints.

A spot welded structures have an influence on a diverse climatic situation, for instance temperature, humidity and precipitation. In addition factors of environmental pollution such as acid rain, that courses corrosion, have the tendency to increase. But spot welded structures strength is affected by humidity and environment temperature. Therefore, it is important to evaluate effect of temperature and water immersion on strength properties of spot welded part. In this study, the strength distribution of spot welded plates is evaluated the environmental temperature of zinc coated steel plates. Test is conducted with welded part immersed in distilled and synthetic sea water. Specimens are immersed into water for 10, 100, 500 and 1000 hours to evaluate the offsets of water immersion time on tensile-shear strength under the conditions of -40, 0, 20 and 5$0^{\circ}C$. From this result, spot welded specimens with 5 mm clearance have lower tensile-shear strength in the distilled water or synthetic sea water than without clearance. And they have lower tensile-shear strength under -4$0^{\circ}C$ and over 5$0^{\circ}C$.
