홍삼(紅蔘) 총사포닌과 의이인(薏苡仁) 혼합물이 비만(肥滿) 치료 및 억제에 미치는 영향 (Effect of the Combination of Total Saponin of Red Ginseng and Coisis Semen for the Prevention and Treatment of Obesity)

  • Objectives: This study was on the pharmaceutical components in purified ginseng total saponin (GTS), coisis semen (CS), the combination of these drugs, and the major component of coicis coixol for the prevention and treatment of obesity. Methods: In this study, to evaluate the effect on the suppression of obesity, high fat diet-induced obese rats were treating with the drugs, the effects on the balance of energy and diet activity were examined, and the change of weight, the change of the intake of diet, body fat rate, etc. were assessed. Results: The results demonstrate that in high fat diet-induced obese white rats, the combination treatment of ginseng total saponin and coicis was effective in suppression of weight gain, reduction of intake of food, and reduction of body fat. Conclusions: The results suggest that a combination treatment with major components of red ginseng total saponin and coicis may be used therapeutically for the suppression and treatment of obesity.

접선 방향의 기체 주입에 의한 입자 마모 특성 연구 (Attrition Characteristics in an Advanced Gasifier with Swirl Injection)

  • ASTM D5757-95에 따른 입자 마모 측정기를 이용하여 접선 방향의 기체 주입에 따른 입자 마모 특성을 고찰하였다. 접선 방향의 기체 주입에 따른 영향을 고찰하기 위하여 모래의 입도 분포 변화, 비산 회재의 양 등을 측정하여 비교하였다. 입자 마모에 따라서 발생하는 미세 입자들은 기체 유속이 증가함에 따라서 증가하였다. 수직 방향의 기체 주입에 비해 접선 방향으로 기체를 주입함에 따라서 입자 마모량이 변하였으며 노즐의 각도가 감소함에 따라서 비산량이 줄어들었다. 또한 전체 유량이 동일한 경우, 사용되는 노즐이 증가할수록 입도변화가 커짐도 알 수 있었다.

Preparation and Characterization of Poly(butyl acrylate)/Poly(methyl methacrylate) Composite Latex by Seeded Emulsion Polymerization

  • As model waterborne acrylic coatings, mono-dispersed poly(butyl acrylate-methyl methacrylate) copolymer latexes of random copolymer and core/shell type graft copolymer were prepared by seeded multi-staged emulsion polymerization with particle size of $180{\sim}200$ nm using semi-batch type process. Sodium lauryl sulfate and potassium persulfate were used as an emulsifier and an initiator, respectively. The effect of particle texture including core/shell phase ratio, glass transition temperature and crosslinking density, and film forming temperature on the film formation and final properties of film was investigated using SEM, AFM, and UV in this study. The film formation behavior of model latex was traced simultaneously by the weight loss measurement and by the change of tensile properties and UV transmittance during the entire course of film formation. It was found that the increased glass transition temperature and higher crosslinking degree of latex resulted in the delay of the onset of coalescence of particles by interdiffusion during film forming process. This can be explained qualitatively in terms of diffusion rate of polymer chains. However, the change of weight loss during film formation was insensitive to discern each film forming stages-I, II and III.

지역사회 재가 노인의 인지수준에 영향을 미치는 신체상태와 기능 및 활동의 융합요인 (Convergence factors among their physical state, function and activities influencing on the cognition of elderly residents in a community)

  • 본 논문은 지역사회 재가 노인(65세 이상)의 인지수준에 영향하는 신체적 요인을 파악하기 위하여 수행되었다. 분석에 사용된 자료는 2010~2012년도 서울시 보건소 방문건강관리사업의 대상자 중 352명의 노인을 대상으로 하였다. 노인의 인지수준은 한국어판 하세가와 치매척도(HDS-K)를 사용하였으며, t-test, ANOVA, 다변량 회귀분석을 사용하여 노인의 인지수준에 영향하는 요인을 파악하였다. 연구대상자 중 13.6%에서 경도인지장애가 나타났다. 지역사회 재가 노인은 연령, 체중변화량, 체질량 지수 변화량, 걷기운동, 유연성 운동에 따라 인지수준의 차이가 나타났다. 특히 정상 체질량 지수를 보이는 노인들은 최근 2년간 체질량 지수가 3이상 감소된 그룹에서 인지수준이 가장 낮았다. 정상 체질량 지수를 보이는 노인의 인지수준에 영향하는 요인에는 연령, 최근 2년간 체중변화, 최근 2년간 체질량 지수 변화, 걷기 운동 등이 있었으며, 이들 변수들은 노인의 인지수준을 12.2% 설명하고 있었다. 그러므로, 최근 갑작스런 체질량 지수 변화가 있는 노인들의 인지 장애 예방을 위하여 이들에 대한 영양관리 및 걷기 운동 프로그램의 적용이 필요하다.

The Effect of Infant Massage on Weight Gain, Physiological and Behavioral Responses in Premature Infants

  • Purpose. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the premature infants' responses to infant massage (tactile and kinesthetic stimulation). These responses measured by weight, physiological (vagal tone, heart rate, oxygen saturation) and behavioral responses (behavioral states, motor activities, and behavioral distress). Methods. This study was conducted using an equivalent control pretest-posttest design. The sample was divided into two groups of 13 infants with gestational age less than 36 weeks at birth, birth weight less than 2000g, and no congenital anomalies. The experimental group received the massage intervention twice daily for 10 days. The data were collected for 10 minutes prior to and 10 minutes after the massage. Results. The vagal tone was significantly higher after massage than before massage in the experimental group, while no change in the control group. The experimental group had significantly higher scores for awake state and motor activity than the control group. Significantly greater awake state, more fidgeting or crying, and increased motor activity were reported after massage than before massage. Conclusions. The results of this study showed that massage therapy might enhance optimal physiological responses and behavioral organization of premature infants. Nursing staff in the NICU can use massage to promote the infant's capability to respond positively to his environment and to provide developmental support for healthy premature infants.

  • 최근 콘크리트의 사용이 사회의 발전과 더불어 단순한 구조적 부재를 넘어서 여러 방면으로 쓰이고 있다. 본 연구에서는 우수를 1차 처리하는 여재에 적용하기 위한 다공성 투수성 경량콘크리트의 개발을 목표로 하고 있다. 다공성 투수성 경량콘크리트는 기존에 사용된 콘크리트와 다르게 매우 많은 공극을 포함하는 불연속체로 물리적 특성 면에서 전혀 다른 거동을 보여주고 있다. 따라서 배합비에 따라 달라지는 공극률의 변화 등의 물성을 평가하고 다공성, 투수성 경량콘크리트에 대한 역학적 특성을 실험적으로 평가하였다.

Generic studies on thermo-solutal convection of mercurous chloride system of ${Hg_2}{Cl_2}$ and Ne during physical vapor transport

  • The effects of thermo-solutal convection on mercurous chloride system of ${Hg_2}{Cl_2}$, and Ne during physical vapor transport are numerically investigated for further understanding and insight into essence of transport phenomena, For $10\;K{\le}{\Delta}T{\le}30\;K$, the growth rate slowly increases and, then is decreased gradually until ${\Delta}T$=50 K, The occurrence of this critical point near at ${\Delta}T$=30 K is likely to be due to the effects of thermo-physical properties stronger than the temperature gradient corresponding to driving force for thermal convection. For the range of $10\;Torr{\le}P_B{\le}300\;Torr$, the rate is second order-exponentially decayed with partial pressures of component B, $P_B$. For the range of $5{\le}M_B{\le}200$, the rate is second order-exponentially decayed with a function of molecular weight of component B, $M_B$. Like the case of a partial pressure of component B, the effects of a molecular weight arc: reflected through the binary diffusivity coefficients, which are intimately related with suppressing the convection flow inside the growth enclosure, i,e., transition from convection to diffusion-dominant flow mode as the molecular weight of B increases. The convective mode is near at a ground level, i,e., on earth (1 $g_0$), and the convection is switched to the diffusion mode for $0.1\;g_0{\le}g{\le}10^{-2}g_0$, whereas the diffusion region ranges from $10^{-2}g_0$ up to $10^{-5}g_0$.

Effect of Chelation with Calcium Disodium EDTA on Haemato-biochemical and Trace Mineral Profile in Blood from Lead Exposed Calves

  • An experiment was performed using 20 calves of about one-month old to investigate the effect of chelation therapy with calcium disodium ethylenediaminetetraacetate ($CaNa_2$EDTA) alone or along with antioxidant $\alpha$-tocopherol in lead loaded calves on blood trace minerals, erythrocytic sulfahydryl groups and some haematobiochemical parameters. Fifteen calves were given lead orally at a daily dose of 7.5 mg of 99% pure lead acetate/kg body weight for 28 days. Then the lead was withdrawn on day 28 and the calves were randomly divided into three groups. Each group of five animals was either treated with $CaNa_2$EDTA alone at the dose rate of 110 mg/kg body weight in two divided doses for 4 days or along with $\alpha$-tocopherol at the dose rate of 100 mg/kg body weight orally daily for 7 days, keeping the remaining five calves as lead-exposed untreated controls. Blood samples were collected at the end of the lead exposure (day 0) and thereafter on day 2, 4, 7 and 10 from the start of the chelation treatment. The treatment with EDTA alone led to slow but non-significant improvement in blood copper level, but incorporation of antioxidant $\alpha$-tocopherol in chelation therapy resulted in its significant decline, as recorded on day 7-post treatment. Withdrawal of lead or treatment with $CaNa_2$EDTA alone or along with $\alpha$-tocopherol enhanced the erythrocytic thiol contents and the levels of T-SH and P-SH became statistically (p<0.05) comparable to those of lead-exposed controls by day 7 and 4, respectively. There was no significant (p>0.05) change in serum urea, creatinine, total protein and albumin levels between the treatment groups. It is concluded from the present investigation that treatment with $CaNa_2$EDTA at the present dose rate is safe to be used for chelation in lead loaded calves.

  • Seasonal occurrence of benthic algae and changes of subtidal vegetation were studied for their species composition, diversity and biomass during 1982 and 1983 at several selected sites at Juckdo Island (38$^{\circ}$12'N, 128$^{\circ}$32'E), eastern coast of Korea. Three large brown algae which played a role in change of algal vegetation through their great biomass were investigated with regard to their seasonal growth. Large brown algae such as Undaria pinnatifida, Costaria costata, Laminaria japonica, Agarum cribrosum, Sargassum confusum and S. hornerii constitute the major portion of vegetation in this area throughout the year. Algal vegetation in spring time is characterized by dominance of species U. pinnatifida and C. costata, whereas the summer vegetation by S. confusum and S. hornerii. In autumn large brown algae are shedded and only small algae, such as Chondrus ocellatus and Grateloupia filicina, remain. The vegetation in winter is dominated by the growth of U. pinnatifida and C. costata. Monthly changes in mean length and weight of randomly collected U. pinnatifida, C. costata and S. confusum are as follows; U. pinnatifida occurs from December to June and shows their maximum growth during March (120 cm in length, 201 g/individual in wet weight), its maximum growth rate is 1.4 cm/day, 3.3 g/day in this month. The growth season of C. costata is very similar to U.pinnatifida, but their average maximum length(110 cm) and weight (106 g/ind.) are lower than U. pinnatifida. The greatest growth rate is during March (1.8 cm/day, 2.0g/day). S. confusum is present throughout the year and reaches the maximum growth (102 cm, 63g/ind.) in July. Maximum growth rate (1.5 cm/day, 1.2 g/day) occurs also during this month. U. pinnatifida and C. costata show different months of maximum growth evidently during the two year. This seems to be caused by a considerable damage to the local vegetation followed by heavy storm in February 1983.

잡음 영상에서 불균등 돌연변이 연산자를 이용한 효율적 에지 검출 (Edge detection method using unbalanced mutation operator in noise image)

  • 이 논문은 진화 프로그래밍과 개선된 역전파 알고리즘을 이용한 에지 검출 방법을 제안한다. 진화 프로그래밍은 알고리즘의 성능저하와 계산비용을 고려하여 교차 연산은 수행하지 않고, 선택연산자와 돌연변이 연산자를 사용한다. 개선된 역전파 알고리즘은 학습단계에서 연결강도를 변화시킬 때 이전학습단계의 연결강도를 보조적으로 활용하는 방법이다. 이 개선된 역전파 알고리즘은 학습률 $\alpha$를 작은값으로 설정하기 때문에 각 학습단계에서의 연결강도 변화량이 기존의 방법에 비해 상대적으로 줄어들게 되어 학습이 느려지는 문제점을 해결하였다. 실험결과 학습시간과 검출률에 있어서 GA-BP(GA : Genetic Algorithm BP : Back-Propagation)를 이용한 방법보다 제안한 EP-MBP(EP : Evolutionary Programming, MBP :Momentum Back-Propagation)를 이용하여 학습시킨 방법이 학습시간의 단축과 효율적인 에지 검출 결과를 얻을 수 있었다.
