  • Experiment was performed to investigate the immunotoxicity of cadmium administered orally and the effect of ginseng petroleum ether fraction on it. Mice were given 3, 30, or 300 ppm cadmium as cadmium chloride orally in the drinking water and injection of ginseng petroleum ether fraction intraperitoneally for 4 weeks. Mice were sensitized and challenged with sheep red blood cells (S-RBC). Humoral immune response was evaluated by antibody production and Arthus reaction. Body weight gain, spleen weight, thymus weight, and liver weight were also measured. In the present study, cadmium generally suppressed the humoral immunity. There was decrease in the rate of body weight gain and liver weight to body weight by cadmium-administration. Ginseng petroleum ether fraction showed restoring effect, to some extent, on the decrease in PFC and in the rate of liver weight to body weight by cadmium-administration. But it more suppressed Arthus reaction.

  • The purpose of this study is to describe Eating Behavior for High school boys who are obesity using three factors(dietary restraint, disinhibition, hunger). The subjects were 200 high school boys. The convenience sample is consist of 101 normal weight boys and 99 obeses weight boys. Data were collected between Mat 1 and June 20 in 2000 and analyzed using the SAS package. The results are as follows: 1. The first hypothesis was not supported that is, the normal weight boys much more doing dietary restraint than the obese boys. 2. The second hypothesis was supported that is, the obese boys more experience disinhibition than the normal weight boys. 3. The third hypothesis was supported that is, the obese boys more experience hunger than the normal weight boys. The eating behavior of obese boys is different that of normal weight boys, The obese boys more experience disinhibition and hunger than the normal weight boys, but dietary restraint was more done the normal weight boys than the obese boys.

  • In this study, we investigate the effects of the weight function in the bounded influence regression quantile (BIRQ) estimator for the AR(l) model with additive outliers. In order to down-weight the outliers of X -axis, the Mallows' (1973) weight function has been commonly used in the BIRQ estimator. However, in our Monte Carlo study, the BIRQ estimator using the Tukey's bisquare weight function shows less MSE and bias than that of using the Mallows' weight function or Huber's weight function. Thus, the use of the Tukey's weight function is recommended in the BIRQ estimator for our model.

  • This study was done for the purpose of analysing the relationships between the clothing weight and health state on the kindergartners. The data were collected in July. Oct. 1986, and February, April. 1987, 324 kindergartners is Seoul. And those factors assumed in the study to have impacts on the clothing weight were, 1) Anthropometric measurement and BMI, Kaup-Index, % fat. 2) The motor ability 3) The health states assumed by application of cornell medical index and health state, Incidence, medical history. The results obtained were to follows. 1) In November, clothing weight was ghigh correlation between anthropometric measurements, BMI, Kaup-Index, motor ability and cornell-medical index. 2) The health problem scores were significant in total clothing weight, upper wear clothing weight, under wear clothing weight. 3) The relation between clothing weight and weight, BMI, motor ability and cold contration among the health state scores proves to be significant correlation.

  • The purpose of this study was to explore the subjective opinions related to the weight control by using Q-methodology. Forty four adults were selected for P-sample from July to August, 1998. The collected data were analyzed by PC Quanl program. The results were as follows : There were 5 types of the adult's opinions about the weight control. Type I(Concern about weight control) : This type believes that there is a problem with general social attitudes, but the weight control it self is necessary. Type II(Health conscious) : This type believes that good health is very important and weight control is way of maintaining and improving good health. Type III(Obsessive) : This type believes that weight control is absolutely necessary no matter what it takes including extreme dietary change. Type IV(Influence by social pressure) : This type believes that the external stimulation and help is needed to motivate weight control. Type V(Self control) : This type believes that self determination is necessary regardless of social pressure.

  • Weight change in the postpartum period is a dominant concern of new mothers recently. Postpartum weight retention has important public health implications as well, because retention of gestational weight can be a significant contributor to longterm obesity and associated health risks. As traditional medical practitioners have managed some problems from postpartum weight retention, use some terms translated in Korean like as postpartumedema, obesity. But those have been not given any discuss objective and with evidences for nomenclature. Now reports review normal postpartum weight loss patterns, as well as risk factors for weight retention, ancient literatures, so practitioners can assist their patients in achieving a healthy postpartum weight.

  • Obesity is a chronic disease that is increasing in prevalence and that poses a serious risk for the hypertension, osteoporosis, heart disease, diabetes mellitus and certains forms of cancer. This study was performed to develop of obesity animal model and to assess the pharmacological assay for the rats of 8 weeks or 4 days after ovariectomization treated with estradiol for 8 weeks on the body weight. fat weight and food intake. The body weight, fat weight and food intake increased in the ovriectomized rats. In the rat of 8 weeks after ovariectomization treated with estradiol (250 mg/100 g) 8 weeks, the body weight decreased significantly (p<0.05). In the rats of 4 days after ovariectomization treated with estradiol 8 weeks, the body weight decreased significantly (p<0.05). These results suggest that estrogen plays a role in regulation body weight response to food intake and fat weight.

  • The purpose of this study was to set up an effective marketing strategy targeting college women by researching the relationship between weight control behavior and body exposure in clothing behavior. The results showed that 1) 85.5% of the college women participated in weight control behavior, and 53.5% of them wanted to lose more than 3kg of their weight. 2) College women were less satisfied with their body and thar showed less body exposure in clothing behavior according to the increase of weight control degree. The weight control parts and unsatisfied body parts were almost matched : thigh, abdomen, hip, calf, and weight. College women preferred clothing that exposed neck, legs and shoulder more than clothing that exposed many parts of their body at the same time. 3) exposure in clothing decreased according to the increase of weight control degree, except for the exposure of breast in clothing.

  • Some weight loss accelerating agents, dodecyltrimethylammonium chloride(DTAC), dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide(DTAB), dodecyldimethylammonium chloride(DDBAC), polyoxyethylene(2) dodecylbenzylammonium chloride(PDBAC), and 1-(2-hydroxyethyl)-1-benzyl-2-undecylimidazolinium chloride(AEUIC), were synthesized. As a result of weight loss treatment of the weight loss accelerating agents with NaOH to PET fiber, the increase of weight loss was the order of PDBAC > DDBAC > DTAC > DTAB > AEUIC. Among the weight loss accelerating agents, AEUIC hardly showed weight loss effect, and it was separated into two layer in the NaOH solution at the treatment concentration above 6g/L, but POBAC showed good weight loss effect of 21% that approach almost to a theoretical weight loss, 21.6%, at the concentration above 8g/L.

  • In this paper, we present a new learning method for the fuzzy ARTMAP which is effective for the noisy input patterns. Conventional fuzzy ARTMAP employs only fuzzy AND operation between input vector and weight vector in learning both top-down and bottom-up weight vectors. This fuzzy AND operation causes excessive update of the weight vector in the noisy input environment. As a result, the number of spurious categories are increased and the recognition ratio is reduced. To solve these problems, we propose a new method in updating the weight vectors: the top-down weight vectors of the fuzzy ART system are updated using weighted average of the input vector and the weight vector itself, and the bottom-up weight vectors are updated using fuzzy AND operation between the updated top-down weitht vector and bottom-up weight vector itself. The weighted average prevents the excessive update of the weight vectors and the fuzzy AND operation renders the learning fast and stble. Simulation results show that the proposed method reduces the generation of spurious categories and increases the recognition ratio in the noisy input environment.
