A Study on Effect of Aerodynamic Loads on Mooring Line Responses of a Floating Offshore Wind Turbine (공기 동역학 하중이 부유식 해상 풍력 발전기의 계류선 응답에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구)

  • This paper presents effect of aerodynamic loads on mooring line responses of a floating offshore wind turbine. A Matlab code based on blade element momentum (BEM) theory is developed to consider aerodynamic loads acting on NREL 5MW wind turbine. The aerodynamic loads are coupled with time-domain hydrodynamic analyses using one-way interaction scheme of the wave and wind loads. A semi-submersible floating platform which is from Offshore Code Comparison Collaborative Continuation(OC4) DeepCWind platform is used with catenary mooring lines simply composed of studless chain links. Average values of mooring peak tensions obtained from aerodynamic load consideration are significantly increased compared to those from simple wind drag force consideration. Consideration of aerodynamic loads also yield larger tension ranges which can be important factor to reduce fatigue life of the mooring lines.

Characteristics of Wind Energy for Long-term Period (10 years) at Seoguang Site on Jeju Island (제주 서광지역에 대한 풍력에너지의 장기간 (10년) 특성)

  • In order to clarify characteristics of variation in wind energy over a long-term period, an investigation was carried out at Seoguang site on Jeju island. The wind data for 10 years from Automatic Weather System (AWS) were analyzed for each year. The variation in the annual energy production (AEP) for the 2 MW wind turbine was estimated through statistical work. The result shows that the range of the yearly average wind speed at 15 m above ground level for 10 years was from -22.6% to +13.7%, which is wider range than that in Japan. The coefficient of variation for the AEP was 22.7%, which is about twice of that for the yearly average wind speed. Therefore, for estimating the wind energy potential accurately at a given site, the wind data should be analyzed over a long-term period based on the data from the meteorological station.

  • Today many people are greatly interested in the environment. Especially increasing affluent of food causes a great amount of food waste. To handle this effectively, we now have a lot of problems of disposing garbage all over the world. In Korea, in order to reduce this garbage, we should use a standard plastic garbage bag in which we have to throw away our garbage. So it has an effect on significantly reducing the waste amount every year. Now, there are a lot of cases that residents again use a standard plastic garbage bag. The purpose of this study is to propose algorithm preventing the re-cycling of a standard plastic garbage bag.

A Study on the Prediction of Fatigue Life by use of Probability Density Function (확률밀도함수를 이용한 피로균열 발생수명 예측에 관한 연구)

  • The estimation of fatigue life at the design stage is very important in order to arrive at feasible and cost effective solutions considering the total lifetime of the structure and machinery compo-nents. In this study the practical procedure of prediction of fatigue life by use of cumulative damage factors based on Miner-Palmgren hypothesis and probability density function is shown with a $135,000m^3$ LNG tank being used as an example. In particular the parameters of Weibull distribution taht determine the stress spectrum are dis-cussed. At the end some of uncertainties associated with fatigue life prediction are discussed. The main results obtained from this study are as follows: 1. The practical procedure of prediction of fatigue life by use of cumulative damage factors expressed in combination of probability density function and S-N data is proposed. 2. The calculated fatigue life is influenced by the shape parameter and stress block. The conser-vative fatigue design can be achieved when using higher value of shape parameter and the stress blocks divded into more stress blocks.

  • The employment permit system for foreigners, which stresses introduction of foreign work force in a legal manner rather than in the position of being trainees, is anticipated to efficiently improve introduction and the overall management system of foreign work force and related difficulties such as illegal alien problems, absurdity on sending laborers overseas. In this paper, a prospective model of supply and demand of work force has been developed basing on various categories of industries and patterns about nationally practical foreign employees to look over efficient supply and demand of work force suiting employment of foreigner among foreign work force policies. To propose the prospective model, we have derived industry- and pattern-related matrixes of foreign laborers basing on Inter-Industry Analysis Method put forth by Professor Leontiyef in 1930, and through the derived matrix assessed repercussions concerning overall domestic industries and foreigner types and decided yearly weight; the capacity of supply and demand of foreign laborers can be compared through proposed statistical estimation and government estimation by combining the determined weight with yearly incomes of foreign laborers. This paper has thoroughly considered the particularity of our employment permit system for foreigners and applied the Weibull distribution and incorporated the dependence of foreign laborers during the limited period of 3 years to the industry relation analysis, ultimately proposing an efficient supply and demand method about domestic foreign work force.

Statistical Analysis of Microhardness Variations in Plasma Sprayed $Cr_3C_2-NiCr$ Coatings

  • The microstructure and properties of plasma-sprayed coatings depend on a great number of spraying parameters, random factors, which lead to vibration in these spraying parameters, may in some degree influence the microstructure and properties of the coatings. Therefore, the property values appear certain distributions, and the description and comparison of the properties of plasma-sprayed coatings should be performed employing statistical analysis. In this paper, $Cr_3C_2$-Nicr coatings of different thickness were sprayed onto stainless steel using atmosphere plasma system and adopting three kinds of gun translation speeds. Then the microhardness measurements were performed on polished surface of the coatings. Forty readings were taken and statistically analyzed by calculating the characteristic values, estimating and comparing the means, and assessing whether they belonged to the Normal or Weibull Distribution. This study has found that statistical analysis could discriminate influence of spraying parameters and coating design on microhardness of the $Cr_3C_2$-Nicr coatings from random vibration, which showed that the microharness of the $Cr_3C_2$-Nicr coatings were related to gun translation speed coating thickness.

Preventive maintenance model following the expiration of NFRRW (비재생무료교체-수리보증이 종료된 이후의 예방보전모형)

  • In this paper, we consider the periodic preventive maintenance model for repairable system following the expiration of non-renewing free replacement-repair warranty (NFRRW). Under this preventive maintenance model, we derive the expressions for the expected cycle length, the expected total cost and the expected cost rate per unit time. Also, we determine the optimal preventive maintenance period and the optimal preventive maintenance number by minimizing the expected cost rate per unit time. Finally, the optimal periodic preventive maintenance policy is given for Weibull distribution case.

Preventive maintenance model with extended warranty (연장된 보증을 갖는 예방보전모형)

  • Recently, an extended warranty of the system following the expiration of the basic warranty is becoming increasingly popular to the user. In this respect, we suggest a preventive maintenance model following the expiration of extended warranty with minimal repair warranty from the user's point of view in this paper. Under basic warranty and extended warranty, the failed system is minimally repaired by the manufacturer at no cost to the user. For the preventive maintenance model, we derive the expressions for the expected cycle length, the expected total cost and the expected cost rate per unit time. Also, we determine the optimal preventive maintenance period and the optimal preventive maintenance number by minimizing the expected cost rate per unit time. Finally, the numerical examples are presented to illustrate the purpose when the failure time of the system has a Weibull distribution.

Comparison of Reliability Estimation Methods for Ammunition Systems with Quantal-response Data (가부반응 데이터 특성을 가지는 탄약 체계의 신뢰도 추정방법 비교)

  • This paper shows accuracy comparison results of reliability estimation methods for one-shot systems such as ammunitions. Quantal-response data, following a binomial distribution at each sampling time, characterizes lifetimes of one-shot systems. Various quantal-response data of different sample sizes are simulated using lifetime data randomly sampled from assumed weibull distributions with different shape parameters but the identical scale parameter in this paper. Then, reliability estimation methods in open literature are applied to the simulated quantal-response data to estimate true reliability over time. Rankings in estimation accuracy for different sample sizes are determined using t-test of SSE. Furthermore, MSE at each time, including both bias and variance of estimated reliability metrics for each method are analyzed to investigate how much both bias and variance contribute the SSE. From the MSE analysis, MSE provides reliability estimation trend for each method. Parametric estimation method provides more accurate reliability estimation results than the other methods for most of sample sizes.

  • Software failure time presented in the literature exhibit either constant, monotonic increasing or monotonic decreasing. For data analysis of software reliability model, data scale tools of trend analysis are developed. The methods of trend analysis are arithmetic mean test and Laplace trend test. Trend analysis only offer information of outline content. In this paper, we discuss forecasting failure time case of failure time censoring. The used software failure time data for forecasting failure time is random number of Weibull distribution(shaper parameter 1, scale parameter 0.5), Using this data, we are proposed to ARIMA(AR(1)) and simulation method for forecasting failure time. The practical ARIMA method is presented.
