This study aims to perform an evaluation of web-based encyclopedia services provided by major Korean search portals, Navel, Yahoo-Korea, Empas, and Daum. These encyclopedia services are evaluated in terms of the relevance, up-to-dateness, and multimedia features of search results. In conducting this study, real queries that real users submitted were used. This study also compares functional characteristics of these encyclopedia services. The results of this study can be implemented to the development and improvement of portal's encyclopedia services. Users can refer to the results of this study in choosing encyclopedia services from search portals.

It is widely confirmed that online retailers can obtain crucial resources and greater growth potential by depending on the external web portal sites as it is explained in resource dependence theory. Nevertheless, recent studies show that the effect of dependence may not always be beneficial for firms and stress the importance of finding relevant contingent factors. In this study, we identify and suggest that firms' age and niche width strategy, whether generalist or specialist, are contributing factors on moderating the positive relationship between resource dependence and firm growth. To test our hypotheses based on the theory, we have collected monthly web traffic data of online retailers and portals from March 2000 and July 2008. The empirical results lend support to our theory of the firm age having a negative interaction effect on web traffic dependence. Moreover, results verified that positive effect of depending on the portals may become greater if the online retailer is a specialist in terms of niche width.

Based on the secondary data of the 2018 news media audience conducted by the Korean Press Foundation, this study examines how the credibility of news on web portals and from news media outlets affects the types of web portal usage. The web portal usage was categorized into the two types: paying attention to news edited by the web portals and paying attention to news media outlets. These were named "portal site centered" and "news media outlet centered," respectively. This study found that the credibility of news from the web portals showed positive relationships with both portal site centered and news media outlet centered. The credibility of news from news media outlets had statistically significant relationships with the two types of web portal usage, but it differed depending on the audiences' preferences toward news media outlets. In other words, the credibility of news from news media outlets that are usually preferred or frequently used showed a positive relationship with the portal site centered, but has a negative relationship with the news media outlet centered. On the other hand, the credibility of news from news media outlets that are not preferred or not frequently used had a negative relationship with the portal site centered, but had a positive relationship with the news media outlet centered.

Increasingly, Grid technics are developed and demonstrated widely. These days, a point to be considered is that clients use Grid resources more easily. Grid Portals, based on standard Web technologies, are increasingly used to provide user interfaces for using Grid resources. But, due to lack of delegation capabilities in using Grid resources through Grid Portals, it is requested of the security mechanisms. That solution is to using Myproxy Server. Myproxy Server allows Grid user to use Grid resources being interact with Grid Portals. But, while users log in Grid Portals, we are faced with over the overlap of users credentials. This paper describes relationship between Portals and Myproxy, and proposes the way to solve the problem of the overlap of users credentials.

This study suggests evaluation criteria for the web-based question-answer databases provided by major Korean search portals. In particular, this study suggests evaluation criteria for the relevance of question titles, entire questions, and answer's. The evaluation criteria for the qualify of answers are also developed. Based on these criteria. evaluation of documents from Naver Knowledge-in are performed. The results of this study can be implemented to the development of test collection of question-answer databases. The implications for system designers and web content providers are discussed.

This study aims to investigate current status of mobile search services of Korean search portals, and analyze mobile unified search contents of Naver and Google Korea. In particular, this study analyzed characteristics of mobile unified search such as number of retrieved documents, collection distribution, and yearly distribution. Also, documents were evaluated in terms of relevance, credibility, and currency. This study compared quality of Naver's unified Web best and unified Web, and Google's best Web documents and Web documents. The correlation between document's ranking and document's relevance was analyzed. The results of this study can be implemented to the portal's effective development of mobile search service.

In order to provide personalized knowledge recommendation services, most web portals for organizational knowledge management use category or keyword information that portal users explicitly express interests in. However, it is usually difficult to collect correct preference data for all users with this approach, and, moreover, users' preferences may easily change over time, which results In outdated user profiles and impaired recommendation qualify. In order to address this problem, this paper suggests knowledge recommendation methods for portals using user profiles that are automatically constructed from users' activities such as posting or uploading of articles and documents. The result of our experiment shows that the Proposed method can provide equivalent performance with the manual category or keyword selection method.

One of the core issues in the realization of e-government is the effective implementation of a website. The current trend of e-government is developing individual web sites and portals, covering such fields as education, tax, economics, real estate, travel, and health. Evaluating e-government web sites is essential for improving web sites. These principles can be included in usability in a broader concept. Website usability has attracted considerable research on website evaluation and has been regarded as one of the most important criteria for measuring and evaluating websites. Usable e-government web sites make citizens willing to search for helpful information or solve their civil applications. The objective of this paper is to suggest an Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method for evaluating e-government web sites. The proposed AHP method has two special characteristics compared to general AHP approaches. First, all citizens who are e-government users can evaluate both the usability criteria and the web sites, but the weighting mechanism differs between criteria and web sites. Secondly, a pairwise comparison is time-consuming and not cost effective with many criteria. Therefore for evaluating a website with respect to a sub-criterion, we develop checklist items as measure scales with a seven-point rating. This method is efficient as it enable us to avoid the pairwise comparison mechanism between sub-criteria. A new computation procedure for the AHP is developed that combines and synthesizes priorities of portals in the case that two decision maker groups are involved.

User needs and their usage motivations are critical components of web portal success, yet limited studies have been conducted with the constituents of good cultural heritage archive portals from the user perspective. This study proposes a quality assessment model from the user perspective. To overcome the intrinsic biases, the triangulation approach was chosen for building a research model. The proposed research model adapts three existing web portal quality models: service quality model, data quality model, and technology acceptance model. A 99-item instrument is suggested to investigate the proposed model. In the next phase of research, the instrument will be tested for its construct validity, and the research model will be empirically tested.

In providing services by using informations of each client, business managers have duties to maintain the personal information under the procedure of collecting, storing, using/providing, and destroying them. Besides, they also have duties to inform their clients, the subject of the personal information, of how to manage and use their client's informations. In this study, the privacy policies, stipulated at domestic and foreign portals will be compared with one another, and the differences between domestic and foreign portals will be shown. The implication in each field and categories of domestic web sites will be found.
