장마전선상에서 하층제트 유입으로 인한 집중호우에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Heavy Rainfall Cases Associated with Low Level Jet Inflow along the Changma Front)

  • In general, heavy rainfall in Korea is mostly associated with inflow of 850hPa low-level jet. It transports abundant heat and moisture flux to the Changma front. In this study, synoptic characteristics of heavy rainfall in Korea from a case study is examined by classifying heavy rainfall cases with synoptic patterns, in particular distribution of upper- and low-level jets, western North Pacific high, and moisture flux. The surface and upper-level weather charts including auxiliary analysis chart and radar and satellite images obtained from the Korea Meteorological Administration, and 500hPa geopotential heights from NCEP/NCAR are used and then KLAPS is applied to understand the local atmospheric structure associated with heavy rainfall. Results show that maximum frequency in 60 heavy rainfall cases with more than 150mm/day appears in the Changma type of 43 cases (a proportion in relation to a whole is 52%) including the combined Changma types with typhoon and cyclone. As indicated in previous studies, most heavy rainfall cases are related to inflow of low-level jet. In addition, synoptic characteristics based on the analyses of weather charts, radar and satellite images, and KLAPS in heavy rainfall case of 12 July, 2009 reveal that the atmospheric vertical structure in particular equivalent potential temperature favorable for effective inflow of warm and moist southwesterly into the Changma front is linked to large potential instability and the strong convergence accompanied with low-level jet around Suwon contributes to atmospheric upsliding along the Changma front, producing heavy rainfall.

부산지역 2021년 2월 1일~2일 연속적인 2개의 한랭전선 통과 시 기상요소와 미세먼지 농도의 특성 (Meteorological Parameters and Fine Particle Concentration during Two Successive Cold Fronts in Busan on 1~2 February 2021 )

  • This study investigated the weather conditions, fine particle concentration, and ion components in PM2.5 when two cold fronts passed through Busan in succession on February 1 and 2, 2021. A analysis of the surface weather chart, AWS, and backward trajectory revealed that the first cold front passed through the Busan at 0900 LST on February 1, 2021, with the second cold front arriving at 0100 LST on February 2, 2021. According to the PM10 concentration of the KMA, the timing of the cold front passage had a close relationship with the occurrence of the highest concentration of fine particles. The transport time of the cold front from Baengnyeongdo to Mt. Gudeok was approximately 11 hours . The PM10 and PM2.5 concentrations in Busan started to increase after the first cold front had passed, and the maximum concentration occurred two hours after the second cold front passed. The SO42-, NO3-, and NH4+ concentration in PM2.5 started to increase from 1100 to 1200 LST on February 1, after the first cold front passed, and peaked at 0100 LST to 0300 LST on February 2. However, the highest Ca2+ concentration was recorded 2-3 hours after the second cold front had passed.

소형어선의 좌초사고 분석과 사고 저감을 위한 제언 (Analysis of Grounding Accidents in Small Fishing Vessels and Suggestions to Reduce Them)

  • 최근 5년간 발생한 해양사고를 분석한 결과, 소형선박은 전체 좌초사고의 77.0 %를 차지하고, 인명사상도 66.1%로서 매우 높았다. 목포지방해양안전심판원은 2021년 72건을 재결하였고, 이중 좌초사건은 10건이었다. 그리고 좌초사건 중 8건은 소형어선에서 발생하였다. 본 논문은 2021년 목포지방해양안전심판원에서 재결하였던 소형어선에서 발생한 8건의 좌초사고에 대해 분석하였다. 이 소형어선의 좌초사고는 맑은 날씨에 시정이 2~4마일로 양호하고, 파고 1미터 이내로 양호한 해상상태에서 발생한 것을 파악되었다. 그리고 좌초사고의 주요 원인은 피로에 따른 졸음 운항, 경계 소홀, 선위확인 소홀, GPS Plotter 과신, 해도도식 및 조석간만의 차에 대한 이해부족 등인 것으로 나타났다. 이에 소형어선의 좌초사고 저감을 위해 다음의 방안을 제시하였다. 첫째, 갑판부 항해당직 부원교육을 이수한 선원이 선장을 보좌하도록 하여야 한다. 둘째, 졸음 방지용 경보장치는 조타실에 설치하여야 한다. 셋째, GPS Plotter의 성능기준과 최신화를 위해 제도는 마련되어야 한다. 마지막으로, 소형어선 선장은 주기적으로 해도도식과 기초 지문항법을 숙지할 수 있도록 교육을 받아야 한다.

  • 서해 연안의 개발은 갯벌의 감소로 해양생태계를 위협하고 있으며 산업화에 따른 대형 매립공사는 주변의 기상변화와 해상변화를 일으켜 해저지형 및 해안선에 많은 변화를 발생시키고 있다. 또한 선박의 안전한 입, 출항을 위한 항로에 영향을 주고 있다. 따라서 본 연구는 해도에 나타난 기준선인 최저저조면의 해양 기준면을 기초 자료로 사용하여 육지부분의 해안선과 갯벌의 경계로 나타나는 0m경계선, 수심2m선을 수치화 하였으며, 수치화 된 도면을 4개의 구역으로 구분하여 분석함으로써 신공항건설과 신도시개발, 방조제공사 등의 서해 연안 개발에 따른 해안과 해저의 변화 정도를 알아보았다.

GIS를 이용한 대기질 관리 정보 지원시스템(e-AIR) 구현( I ) (Development of Air Pollution Information System Using GIS (e-AIR))

  • Public awareness of air pollution problem has increased the need for real time air pollution information system about changes in air pollution level. The purpose of this study is to construct e-AIR, a user-friendly air pollution information system for urban air quality using GIS(geographic information system) technology for windows. GIS was ideally suited featuring a geographical characteristics(e.g., road, traffics, buildings) and very effectively used in mapping and symbolization for the distribution of the spatial/periodic pollution status(e.g., pie or column chart, graduated symbols) which can be effectively applied to a information system on the web-site. And a user interface, GUI(graphic user interface) was designed very diversely and simply enabled the users connect with e-AIR and obtain a useful information of air quality. A interpretive technique, air pollution health index(e.g., PSI, AEI) was used also which transforms complex data on measured atmospheric pollutant concentrations into a single number or set of numbers in order to make the data more understandable. Eventually the final-step of this study was to construct e-AIR based on Web GIS could be assessed anywhere if internet is available and offer a very useful information services of the air pollution to the public like a weather news.

Development of typhoon forecasting system using satellite data

  • Typhoons were known by contributing to transporting plus heat or kinetic energy from equatorial region to midlatitude region. Due to the strong damage from typhoon, we acknowledged the theoretical study and the importance of accurate forecast about typhoon. In this study, typhoon forecasting system was developed to search the tracks of past typhoons or to display similar track of past typhoon in comparison with the path of current forecasting typhoon. It was programmed using Interactive Data Language(IDL), which was a complete computing environment for the interactive analysis and visualization of data. Typhoon forecasting system was also included satellite image and auxiliary chart. IR, Water Vapor, Visible satellite images helped users analyze an accurate forecast of typhoon. They were further refined the procedures for generating water vapor winds and gave an initial indication of their utility for numerical weather prediction(NWP), in particular for typhoon track forecasting where they could provide important information. They were also available for its utility in typhoon tracer or intensity.

2004년 3월 4일 대설 사례에 관한 분석과 예보를 위한 제안 (Analyses of the Heavy Snowfall Event Occurred over the Middle Part of the Korean Peninsula on March 4, 2004 and Suggestions for the Future Forecast)

  • A heavy snowfall event occurred over the middle part of the Korean peninsula on March 4, 2004. The numerical models of KMA failed to forecast this heavy snowfall event because this event was due to small scale disturbance by low lever convergence and atmospheric instability. The analyses for this heavy snowfall have been performed to give forecasters useful suggestions for forecasting heavy snowfall events in the future. The analyses for the snowfall event were recounted by the Hourly Korean Peninsula Analysis Weather Chart (HKPAWC) presenting on the KMA intranet system. We confirmed that warm air flows of low level into south central Korea in conjunction with strong southwesterly winds played important role in the heavy snowfall event. We suggested several check points to improve the forecast of heavy snowfall events in the future through the results of the analyses.

  • RADARSAT은 선박탐지를 포함하는 해상감시에 있어서 중요한 역할을 할 수 있는 데이터중의 하나이며, 이것은 레이더센서를 가지고 있어 전천후 및 주야불문이라는 두 가지 주요 이점을 가지고 있기 때문에 가능하다. 그러나, 합성개구레이더의 이미징시에 대기의 영향은 무시될 수 없으며, 다양한 형태로 기하 변형이 발생하게 된다. 본 연구에서는, 레벨 1의 georeferenced SGX 데이터를 사용해서 RADARSAT의 합성개구레이더에 대한 기하/대기 보정을 시험하였다. 대기보정을 위한 레이더 산란파 크기 등의 정보는 데이터 헤더자료로부터 추출하였으며, DN을 beat nought와 sigma nought로 변환을 실시하였다. 마지막으로 자동 기하보정결과를 실재 좌표 값과 비교하였다.

중규모 수치모델을 이용한 김해지역 고농도 대기오염 사례 분석 (Analysis on High Concentration Air Pollution Cases in Gimhae Region Using the WRF Numerical Model)

  • In this study, eight episode days of high-concentration $PM_{10}$ occurrences in the Gimhae region between 2006 and 2011 were analyzed. Most of them appeared in winter and the highest concentration was observed around 12 LST. Furthermore, the wind direction, wind velocity, and temperature elements were compared with observed values to verify the WRF numerical simulation results used in this study, and they simulated well in accordance with the trend of the observed values. The wind was generally weak in the high-concentration episode days that were chosen through surface weather chart and the numerical simulation results for wind field, and the air pollutants were congested due to the effects of the resulting local winds, thereby causing a high concentration of air pollutants. Furthermore, the HYSPLIT model was performed with the WRF numerical simulation results as input data. As a result, they originated from China and flowed into Gimhae in all eight days, and the lowest concentration appeared on the days when recirculation occurred.

BNR 하수처리 최적화를 위한 평가방법론 및 Comprehensive Performance Evaluation (Evaluation Methodology and Comprehensive Performance Evaluation for Optimization of BNR Wastewater Treatment)

  • A BNR comprehensive performance evaluation (BNR CPE) system was established employing system-oriented evaluation methodology for biological nutrient removal (BNR) processes based on the CPE techniques developed by U.S. EPA for evaluation of conventional biological processes. The BNR CPE system applied to five domestic BNR plants adopting $A^2/O$ process confirmed that all target plants except the smallest one had not any serious defective performance and process stability was enhanced with increasing plant size. The system also clearly verified relatively poor performances in anoxic reactors without exception mainly due to influent carbon limit rather than functional defect. Consistent good performances were confirmed even during both winter season and wet weather generally known to be difficult to achieve satisfactory removals. Presentation of evaluation results by modified radar chart system simplified and clarified the evaluation and analysis procedures. The BNR CPE system could not only discover readily the causes of present and prospective poor performances but also facilitate the suggestion of their optimization options. Mutual effect and cause-and-effect among operation parameters and unit processes were also found easily using the evaluation system. The system justified that the adverse effect of defective operating parameters could be compensated by other favorable parameters, especially in anaerobic and anoxic reactors as well as during the winter season.
