장기파랑관측자료와 수치실험에 의한 동해안 천해설계파고 검토 (Comparison of the Shallow-Water Design Wave Height on the Korean East Coast Based on Wave Observation Data and Numerical Simulation)

  • 본 연구에서는 동해안의 4개 정점(속초, 묵호, 후포, 진하)에서 13년간 관측된 파랑자료를 이용하여 극치확률분석을 통해 재현빈도별로 천해설계파를 산정하였고, 이 값을 한국해양연구원(2005)에 제시된 동해안 심해설계파를 이용하여 SWAN 수치모델링로 계산된 결과와 비교하였다. 그 결과 2005년 기존 심해설계파의 수치실험 결과는 관측파랑에 의한 극치분석 결과보다 상대적으로 작은 것으로 나타났으며, 특히 30년 빈도 이하에서 동해안에서의 기존 심해설계파고가 과소산정되었을 가능성이 있음을 시사한다.

Effect of generalized thermoelasticity materials with memory

  • Many works have been done in classical theory of thermoelasticity in materials with memory by researchers like Nunziato, Chen and Gurtine and many others. No work is located in generalized thermoelasticity regarding materials with memory till date. The present paper deals with the wave propagation in materials with memory in generalized thermoelasticity. Plane progressive waves and Rayleigh waves have been discussed in details. In the classical theory of heat conduction it was observed that heat propagates with infinite speed. This paradox has been removed in the present discussion. The set of governing equations has been developed in the present analysis. The results of wave velocity and attenuation coefficient corresponding to low and high frequency have been obtained. For thermal wave the results show appreciable differences with those in the usual thermoelasticity theory.

콘테이너선의 불규칙파 중 운동응답에 대한 실험적 고찰 (Experimental Analysis on the Motion Response of a Container Ship in Irregular Head Waves)

  • This paper presents the results of seakeeping tests in a container ship model in irregular head waves. A time domain signal generating procedure is devised so that the wave maker behaves in accordance with the specified wave spectrum. The surface elevation of generated waves is measured and analysed to render the recorded wave spectrum for comparison with the specified one. Correction is made to the time domain signal until the differences between the two spectra become negligible. The motion responses and vertical acceleration of the self-propelled ship model are measured and analysed by both the spectral and the double amplitude methods. The two methods give nearly same statistical values. Finally the recorded spectra are compared with those calculated from the frequency domain motion analysis to show the credibility of the experimental results.

Statistical Comparison of Gravity Wave Characteristics Obtained from Airglow All-Sky Observation at Mt. Bohyun, Korea and Shigaraki, Japan

  • Previously, all-sky airglow images observed at Shigaraki ($34.9^{\circ}N$, $136.1^{\circ}E$), Japan, during 2004 and 2005 were analyzed in relation to those observed at Mt. Bohyun ($36.2^{\circ}N$, $128.9^{\circ}E$) for a comparison of their gravity wave characteristics (Kim et al. 2010). By applying the same selection criteria of waves and cloud coverages as in the case of Mt. Bohyun all-sky images, we derived apparent wavelengths, periods, phase velocities, and monthly occurrence rates of gravity waves at Shigaraki in this study. The distributions of wavelengths, periods, and speeds derived for Shigaraki were found to be roughly similar to those for Mt. Bohyun. However, the overall occurrence rates of gravity waves at Shigaraki were 36% and 34% for OI 557.7 nm and OH Meinel band airglow layers, respectively, which were significantly higher than those at Mt. Bohyun. The monthly occurrence rates did not show minima near equinox months, unlike those for Mt. Bohyun. Furthermore, the seasonal preferential directions that were clearly apparent for Mt. Bohyun were not seen in the wave propagation trends for Shigaraki. These differences between the two sites imply different origins of the gravity waves near the Korean peninsula and the Japanese islands. The gravity waves over the Japanese islands may originate from sources at various altitudes; therefore, wind filtering may not be effective in causing any seasonal preferential directions in the waves in the airglow layers. Our analysis of the Shigaraki data supports recent theoretical studies, according to which gravity waves can be generated from in situ sources, such as mesosphere wind shear or secondary wave formation, in the mesosphere.

  • 인간은 집중할 때 유발되는 특정한 뇌파가 있는 것으로 알려져 있다. 본 논문에서는 인간의 집중과 관련된 뇌파를 분석하는 것을 목표로 하여, 집중을 유발할 수 있는 도구로 시각자극을 설정하였다. 즉 시각자극으로 구성된 과제를 제시하여 피험자가 집중할 수 있도록 하였다. 피험자로부터 유발되는 뇌파는 전극의 위치에 따른 채널별로 계측하였고, 계측한 뇌파는 주파수대역별로 나누어 분석하였다. 그 중에서도 특히 SMR, Mid-beta, Theta파에 해당되는 주파수대역의 파워 스펙트럼으로 분석하였고, 그 특성을 분석한 결과를 제시하였다.

  • In this study, transmission and reflection of multi-directional random waves propagating over multi-arrayed submerged breakwaters are investigated using eigenfunction expansion method. The numerical analysis on the wave energy reflection of submerged breakwaters with various crown widths is carried out. Strong wave reflection is occurred at the Bragg reflection condition of the peak frequency. When relative heights and crown widths of breakwaters are equal to 0.6 and 0.4h, respectively, more than 25% of wave energy is reflected to off shore.

  • 계류된 선박의 시뮬레이션을 위해 조종방정식을 사용하였고, 파 중의 선박에 가해지는 파강제력은 3차원 특이점 분포법에서 얻어진 주파수 전달함수로부터 시간영역해석법을 적용하였다. 운동을 유발하는 입사파의 주기와 동일한 선형 파강제력과 성분파 주파수의 차이에 기인하는 장주기 표류력을 외력항에 고려하였다. 규칙파와 불규칙 중에서의 선박의 거동을 비교하여 계류 중 선박에 발생할 수 있는 SLEW MOTION에 불규칙파 및 비선형 파강제력이 미치는 영향을 고찰하였다.

Downtime cost analysis of offloading operations under irregular waves in Malaysian waters

  • The objective of this study was to evaluate the downtime cost of side-by-side offloading operations in Malaysian waters. With the help of a numerical time domain tool, the structure and cable response of moored FPSO vessel was simulated for heading and beam sea-states under irregular waves. The weather downtime was assessed by comparing the response under operational wave condition with the pre defined industrial safe offloading criteria. Additionally, two cases of cable failure were simulated for each sea-state. The novel study on downtime cost was presented for three different location of Malaysia subcontinent for which the location specific wave scatter diagram facilitated to estimate the probability of occurrence of operational wave condition. It was concluded that an unpredictable increment in wave height by 0.5 m can significantly impact the production cost.

초대형 부유식 해상공항의 파도에 의한 진동응답특성 해석 (Analysis of wave induced vibration of a typical very large floating-type offshore airport platform)

  • The vibration due to progressive ocean waves is analyzed for a typical footing-type offshore airport platform. The platform is modelled as a spring-supported Euler beam and buoyancy change due to wave is considered as excitation force, under the assumption that the wave propagates without distortion by the structure. The results show that the natural frequencies of this structure are distributed very closely and are little affected by boundary conditions and that the response charateristics due to ocean waves are quite different according to the wave frequency. In this study, the wave frequencies are divided into three regions; the resonance region at which the response is governed by the resonance between the natural mode at the wave frequency and the corresponding modal component of the wave excitation force, the bending governed region at which the response is governed by the bending stiffness, and the spring (buoyancy) governed region at which the response is governed by the spring constant ahd therefore is same as the incident wave form.

  • As the economy grows and the population increases, we need to develop our coastal area and make use of it for various purposes. Specifically, investigation of the wave interactions on and around the vertical cylinders is very important in the design of the offshore or coastal structures. The nonlinear potential analysis developed so far, although very useful, has been found to be limited in application, as strong nonlinear waves generated by the interference between multilayered cylinders and wave impact forces by breaking waves can hardly be estimated. In this study, using a 3-Dimensional volume tracking method VOF(Volume of Fluid), based on Namer-Stokes equations, was developed to simulate highly nonlinear effects, such as breaking waves at the interface or complicated interference waves among structures. A numerical method for nonlinear interaction wave and vertical cylinders is newly proposed. The wave forces and wave transformations computed by the newly proposed numerical simulation method were compared to the other researcher's experimental results, and the results agree well. Based on the validation of this study, this numerical method is applied to the two vertical cylinders to discuss their nonlinear wave forces and wave transformations, according to the variations of separate distance of vertical cylinders.
