An experimental procedure to identify failure modes of impact damage using sensor signals and to analyze their general features is examined. A series of low-velocity impact tests from low energy to damage-induced high energy were performed on the instrumented drop weight impact tester to monitor the stress wave signals due to failure modes such as matrix cracking, delamination, and fiber breakage. The wavelet transform(WT) and Short Time Fourier Transform(STFT) are used to decompose the piezoelectric sensor signals in this study. The extent of the damage in each case was examined by means of a conventional ultrasonic C-scan. The PVDF sensor signals are shown to carry important information regarding the nature of the impact process that can be extracted from the careful signal processing and analysis.

The purpose of this paper is to classify VOC gases by emulating the characteristics found in biological olfaction. For this purpose, we propose new signal processing method based a polymeric chemical sensor array consisting of 4096 sensors which is created by NEUROCHEM project. To remove unstable sensors generated in the manufacturing process of very large scaled chemical sensor array, we used discrete wavelet transformation and cosine similarity. And, to remove the supernumerary redundancy, we proposed the method of selecting candidates of representative sensor representing sensors with similar features by Fuzzy c-means algorithm. In addition, we proposed an improved algorithm for selecting representative sensors among candidates of representative sensors to better enhance classification ability. However, Classification for very large scaled sensor array has a great deal of time in process of learning because many sensors are used for learning though a redundancy is removed. Throughout experimental trials for classification, we confirmed the proposed method have an outstanding classification ability, at transient state as well as steady state.

High dynamic range (HDR) images are becoming pervasive due to capturing or rendering of a wider range of luminance, but their special display equipment is difficult to be popularized because of high cost and technological problem. Thus, HDR images must be adapted to the conventional display devices by applying tone mapping (TM) operation, which puts forward higher requirements for intellectual property protection of HDR images. As the robustness presents regional diversity in the low dynamic range (LDR) watermarked image after TM, which is different from the traditional watermarking technologies, a concept of watermarking activity is defined and used to distinguish the essential distinction of watermarking between LDR image and HDR image in this paper. Then, a novel robust HDR image watermarking algorithm is proposed against TM operations. Firstly, based on the hybrid processing of redundant discrete wavelet transform and singular value decomposition, the watermark is embedded by modifying the structure information of the HDR image. Distinguished from LDR image watermarking, the high embedding strength can cause more obvious distortion in the high brightness regions of HDR image than the low brightness regions. Thus, a perceptual brightness mask with low complexity is designed to improve the imperceptibility further. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm is robust to the existing TM operations, with taking into account the imperceptibility and embedded capacity, which is superior to the current state-of-art HDR image watermarking algorithms.
The evaluation of shear modulus (or shear wave velocity) profile of the site is very important in various fields of geotechnical engineering and various surface wave methods have applied to determine the shear wave velocity profiles and showed good performance. Surface wave methods evaluate the dispersion curve in the field and determine the shear wave velocity profile through the inversion process. In this paper, the automated inversion process using the genetic algorithm is developed for HWAW method which is one of surface wave methods recently developed. The proposed method uses the error function based on the wavelength domain dispersion curve and can determine the reliable shear wave velocity profile not only in shallow depth but also in deep depth. To estimate the validity of the proposed method, numerical simulations and field test were performed and the proposed method was applied to determine the shear wave velocity profiles. Through the numerical simulations and field applications, the promising potential of the proposed method was verified.
Image fusion techniques are widely used to integrate a lower spatial resolution multispectral image with a higher spatial resolution panchromatic image. However, the existing techniques either cannot avoid distorting the image spectral properties or involve complicated and time-consuming decomposition and reconstruction processing in the case of wavelet transform-based fusion. In this study a simple spectral preserve fusion technique: the Smoothing Filter-based Replacement(SFR) is proposed based on a simplified solar radiation and land surface reflection model. By using a ratio between a higher resolution image and its low pass filtered (with a smoothing filter) image, spatial details can be injected to a co-registered lower resolution multispectral image minimizing its spectral properties and contrast. The technique can be applied to improve spatial resolution for either colour composites or individual bands. The fidelity to spectral property and the spatial quality of SFM are convincingly demonstrated by an image fusion experiment using IKONOS panchromatic and multispectral images. The visual evaluation and statistical analysis compared with other image fusion techniques confirmed that SFR is a better fusion technique for preserving spectral information.
The Kunsan basin is a pull-apart basin which was formed during Tertiary. The pre-Tertiary section consists of various rock types, such as meta-sediments, igneous rocks, carbonates, clastics, and volcanics. Tertiary sections are the main targets for the petroleum exploration. In order to determine the optimum processing parameters of the basin, about 12 kinds of test processings were performed. The first main steps for the quality control is to determine the noisy or bad traces by examining the near trace section and shot gathers. The true amplitude recovery was applied to account for the amplitude losses due to spherical divergence and inelastic attenuation. Source designature and predictive deconvolution test were conducted to determine the optimum wavelet parameters and to remove the multiples. Velocity analysis was performed at 1km intervals. The optimum mute function was picked by locating the range of offsets which gives the best stacking response for any particular reflections. Post-stack deconvolution was tested to see if the quality of stacked data improved. The stacked data was migrated using a finite difference algorithm. The migration velocity was obtained from the stacking velocities using the time varying percentages. The AGC sections were provided for the structural interpretation. The RAP sections were used for DHI analysis and for the detection of volcanics.

The patency of small size vascular grafts is poor, and the blood flow characteristics in the artery graft anastomosis are suspected as one of the important factors influencing intimal hyperplasia. Disturbed flow patterns caused by sixte and compliance mismatch generate unfavorable flow environment which promotes intimal thickening. Tapered vascular yuts are suggested in order to reduce sudden expansion near the anastomosis. The photochromic flow visualization method is used to measure the flout fields in the end-to-end anastomosis model under the carotid and femoral artery flow wave form. The results show that flow disturbance near the anastomosis is diminished in the tapered grafts comparing to the tubular graft. As the divergent ang1e decreases, we can reduce the low and oscillatory wall shear stress zone which is prone to intimal hyperplasia. The flow wave form effects the wall shear rate dis- tribution significantly. The steep deceleration and back flow in the femoral flow wAve form cause low mean wall shear rate and high oscillatory shear index.

Recently, biometric systems are of interest for the reliable security system. Iris recognition technology is one of the biometric system with the highest reliability. Various iris recognition methods have been proposed for automatic personal identification and verification. These methods require accurate iris segmentation for successful processing because the iris is a small part of an acquired image. The iris boundaries have been parametrically modeled and subsequently detected by circles or parabolic arcs. Since the iris boundaries have a wide range of edge contrast and irregular border shapes, the assumption that they can be fit to circles or parabolic arcs is not always valid. In some cases, the shape of a dilated pupil is slightly different from a constricted one. This is especially true when the pupil has an irregular shape. This is why this research is important. This paper addresses how to accurately detect iris boundaries for improved iris recognition, which is robust to noises.
As a single arrival traveltime, maximum energy arrival traveltime has been known as the most proper operator for Kirchhoff migration. In case of the model having the simple structure, both the first arrival traveltime and the maximum energy arrival traveltime can be used as the correct operators for Kirchhoff migration. However for some model having the complex and high velocity contrast structure, the migration using the first arrival traveltime can't give the correct depth section. That is, traveltime to be required in Kirchhoff migration is the maximum energy traveltime, but, needs considerably more calculation time than that of first arrival. In this paper, we propose the method for calculating the traveltime approximated to the maximum energy arrival using one-way wave equation. After defining the WAS(Wrap Around Suppression) factor to be used for calculating the first arrival traveltime using one-way wave equation as the function of lateral grid interval and depth and considering the delay time of source wavelet. we calculate the traveltime approximated to the maximum energy arrival. to verify the validity of this traveltime, we applied this to the migraion for simple structure and complex structure and compared the depth section with that obtained by using the first arrival traveltime.

The robust feature vector selection method for the multiple frontal face detection is proposed in this paper. The proposed feature vector for the training and classification are integrated by means, amplitude projections, and its 1D Harr wavelet of the input image. And the statistical modeling is performed both for face and nonface classes. Finally, the estimated probability density functions (PDFs) are applied for the detection of multiple frontal faces in the still image. The proposed method can handle multiple faces, partially occluded faces, and slightly posed-angle faces. And also the proposed method is very effective for low quality face images. Experimental results show that detection rate of the propose method is $98.3\%$ with three false detections on the testing data, SET3 which have 227 faces in 80 images.
