Non-dimensional analysis of cylindrical objects freely dropped into water in two dimensions (2D)

  • The dropped objects are identified as one of the top ten causes of fatalities and serious injuries in the oil and gas industry. It is of importance to understand dynamics of dropped objects under water to accurately predict the motion of dropped objects and protect the underwater structures and facilities from being damaged. In this paper, we study non-dimensionalization of two-dimensional (2D) theory for dropped cylindrical objects. Non-dimensionalization helps to reduce the number of free parameters, identify the relative size of effects of force and moments, and gain a deeper insight of the essential nature of dynamics of dropped cylindrical objects under water. The resulting simulations of dimensionless trajectory confirms that drop angle, trailing edge and drag coefficient have the significant effects on dynamics of trajectories and landing location of dropped cylindrical objects under water.

수자원의 경제적 가치를 고려한 유출량의 평가 (A Study on Runoff Discharge Considering Economic Value of Water Resource)

  • 강원도 지역은 매년 다양한 재해를 반복적으로 겪고 있으며 이러한 재해는 이 지역의 지속적인 발전에 장애요인이 되고 있다. 특히 2002년 태풍 루사에 의한 집중호우는 막대한 피해와 더불어 우리사회의 많은 교훈을 남겼다. 본 연구에서는 홍수 유출량을 경제적 관점에서 평가함으로써 수자원 관리의 중요성을 부각하고자 하였다. 그 결과 2002년 루사 당시 삼척시 오십천의 홍수유출에 따른 수자원의 경제적 손실은 약 5천 5백만원이 유실된 것으로 분석되었다.

  • The phenomenon of water tree degradation of underground distribution power cables is taking place in polymeric insulation materials under the existence of water and application of electric stress, but water tree is not easy to observe, o water tree features in power cables are shown after cutting and dying with methyleneblue. In previous method, it is impossible to acquire continuous treeing data, and when the insulation material has been cut, the micro crack(water tree) has been damaged. In this paper, to overcome these deflects, the etching method is made use of making needle electrode about 170[${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$] diameter, and AgNO$_3$(silver nitrate) solution is used as liquid electrode to accelerate the growth of water trees. As a result of this study, water tree is observed in real-time with microscope. Electrical tree owing to water treeing is initiated at low electric field and grown with discontinuous. Namely, water tree is shown up a different characteristics of tree growth.

불규칙 파랑 중 카페리선의 SRtP 소요마력 수치 추정 연구 (Numerical Prediction of the Powering Performance of a Car-Ferry in Irregular Waves for Safe Return to Port(SRtP))

  • This paper considers a numerical assessment of the self-propulsion performance of a damaged ferry carrying cars in irregular waves. Computational fluid dynamics(CFD) simulations were performed to see whether the ferry complied with the Safe Return to Port (SRtP) regulations of Lloyd's register, which require that damaged passenger ships should be able to return to port with a speed of 6 knots (3.09 m/s) in Beaufort 8 sea conditions. Two situations were considered for the damaged conditions, i.e., 1) the portside propeller was blocked but the engine room was not flooded and 2) the portside propeller was blocked and one engine room was flooded. The self-propulsion results for the car ferry in intact condition and in the damaged conditions were assessed as follows. First, we validated that the portside propeller was blocked in calm water based on the available experimental results provided by KRISO. The active thrust of starboard propeller with the portside propeller blocked was calculated in Beaufort 8 sea conditions, and the results were compared with the experimental results provided by MARIN, and there was reasonable agreement. The thrust provided by the propeller and the brake horsepower (BHP) with one engine room flooded were compared with the values when the engine room was not flooded. The numerical results were compared with the maximum thrust of the propeller and the maximum brake horse power of the engine to determine whether the damaged car ferry could attain a speed of 6 knots(3.09 m/s).

건축물에 설치된 물탱크의 지진응답해석을 통한 설계하중 평가 (Evaluation of Seismic Design Force by Earthquake Response Analysis of Water Tanks Installed in RC Buildings)

  • Several water tanks installed in the building were damaged during the Gyeongju earthquake (2016) and the Pohang earthquake (2017). Since a water tank for fire protection is very important component, seismic safety should be ensured. In this study, an interaction between a water tank and a building was studied by the dynamic analysis of the RC building with the water tank. In case the water tank was installed on the roof of the RC building, it was confirmed that it did not significantly affect the response of the building. Based on the result, dynamic response characteristics of the water tank in the building were studied using two SDOF models represented dynamic behavior of the water tanks under earthquake. An earthquake time-history analysis was carried out with variables of aspect ratio of the tank, story of the building, and installed location in the building using three kinds of earthquakes.

  • In this paper describes the research and development of a pipe robot for pipe rehabilitation construction of old water pipes. After the water supply pipe construction, the pipe is leaking, damaged, and aging due to corrosion. Eventually, resistance to the flow of water in lower supply efficiency and contaminated water such as rusty water, finally in various consumer complaints. In order to solve this problem, rehabilitation construction robot technology is required to secure the construction quality of pipe rehabilitation construction and restore the function of the initial construction period. The developed pipe rehabilitation construction robot required a hydraulic actuator for high traction and was equipped with a small hydraulic supply device. In addition, we have developed a hydraulic cylinder and a link system that supports the pipe inner diameter to develop a single pipe robot corresponding to 500 to 800mm pipe diameter. The analysis and experimental verification of the driving performance and unit function of the developed pipe reconstruction robot are explained, and the result of the integrated performance test of the pipe reconstruction robot at the water supply pipe network site is explained.

고온에 노출된 실리카퓸 혼입 고강도 콘크리트의 공극구조 변화 (Veriation of Pore Structure of High Strength Concrete Including Silica Fume Exposed to High Temperature)

  • 본 연구는 실리카퓸을 사용한 고강도 콘크리트의 고온하의 압축강도의 저하 및 공극률 변화를 통하여 강도 감소와 공극구조와의 연관성을 검토하였다. 또한, 실리카퓸 혼입의 유무와 각 가열온도에서의 시멘트 수화물의 탈수에 의한 공극특성의 변화에 관한 기초 데이터를 제공하고자 하였다. 연구결과, 실리카퓸의 혼입에 따른 필러효과 및 물-결합재비의 차로 인해 공극률 및 공극분포는 다르게 나타났다. 가열온도가 상승함에 따라 공극률도 점진적으로 증가하는 경향을 보였다. 또한, $600^{\circ}C$ 이상의 고온에서의 경향성은 더욱 현저하였다. 가열온도의 상승에 따라 $0.1{\~}0.5{\mu}m$공극의 증가는 현저하였으며 이는 모세관 공극의 수분의 증발 및 C-S-H계 수화물 및 수산화칼슘이 분해되어 결합수가 탈수한 결과이다. 고열에 의한 신축도 콘크리트 내부의 미세균열을 발생시켜 공극률 증가를 유발한다. 이러한 공극률 증가는 가열온도에 따라 일정한 경향성을 띠므로 화해를 입은 콘크리트의 수열온도 및 국부적인 성능저하를 예측할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

형광입자를 이용한 분리막 표면 검측과 손상 면적 추정 오차에 대한 연구 (Estimation of damage area on membrane surface by application of fluorescent particles as a surrogate)

  • In this study, a novel method was proposed to test the integrity of water treatment system specifically equipped with membrane filtration process. We applied the silica particles coated with a fluorescent agent (rhodamine B isothiocyanate) as a surrogate to detect a membrane process integrity and evaluate the reliability of effluent quality in the system. Additionally, a series of experiments was conducted to evaluate the sensitivity of the method through the laboratory scale experiment. The laboratory scale experiments showed that the feasibility of application of proposed method to detect a breach or damaged part on the membrane surface. However, the sensitivity on predicting the area of a breach was significantly influenced by the testing conditions such as a concentration of surrogate, filtration flux, and detection time. The lowest error of predicting the area of breach was 3.5% at the testing condition of surrogate concentration of 80 mg/L injected with flux of $20L/m^2/hr$ for 10 minutes of detection time for the breach having the actual area of $7.069mm^2$. However, the error of estimation was increased at the small breach with area less than $0.785mm^2$. A future study will be conducted to estimate a damaged area with more accuracy and precision.

고속철도 콘크리트 궤도 매립전 내 침투수의 결빙압에 의한 균열손상해석 (Finite Element Analysis of Concrete Railway Sleeper Damaged by Freezing Force of Water Penetrated into the Inserts)

  • 본 연구에서는 콘크리트 궤도 침목 내에 설치되는 인서트에 예기치 못하게 침투된 수분의 결빙압이 앵커볼트의 인발강도에 미치는 영향을 유한요소해석을 통해 고찰하였다. 3차원 유한요소해석모델은 콘크리트 침목의 현장실험 결과, 도면 및 레일체결장치의 제원 실측치를 기반으로 수립되었으며, 비선형구성방정식과 파괴 모델은 측정된 압축강도로부터 CEB-FIP 1990 모델코드를 이용하여 추정하였다. 해석모델의 적정성은 철도기술연구원에서 수행한 현장 인발시험 결과 및 실내시험 결과와의 비교를 통해 확인하였다. 다양한 인자, 즉 결빙위치, 앵커볼트 초기 체결력의 크기 및 콘크리트 압축강도에 따른 해석을 수행하였으며, 그 결과를 제시하였다. 해석결과에 의하면, 매립전내 침투수의 결빙력은 균열손상의 가장 가능성 있는 직접적인 원인 중 하나로 간주될 수 있음을 확인하였다. 또한, 외측매립전의 결빙력이 내측 매립전 보다 작은 것으로 나타났으나 그 차이는 크지 않았다.

침수피해 정보를 이용한 농경지의 지형학적 침수취약지도 작성 - 진주시를 사례로 - (Mapping of Inundation Vulnerability Using Geomorphic Characteristics of Flood-damaged Farmlands - A Case Study of Jinju City -)

  • The objective of this study was to make a map of farmland vulnerability to flood inundation based on morphologic characteristics from the flood-damaged areas. Vulnerability mapping based on the records of flood damages has been conducted in four successive steps; data preparation and preprocessing, identification of morphologic criteria, calculation of inundation vulnerability index using a fuzzy membership function, and evaluation of inundation vulnerability. At the first step, three primary digital data at 30-m resolution were produced as follows: digital elevation model, hill slopes map, and distance from water body map. Secondly zonal statistics were conducted from such three raster data to identify geomorphic features in common. Thirdly inundation vulnerability index was defined as the value of 0 to 1 by applying a fuzzy linear membership function to the accumulation of raster data reclassified as 1 for cells satisfying each geomorphic condition. Lastly inundation vulnerability was suggested to be divided into five stages by 0.25 interval i.e. extremely vulnerable, highly vulnerable, normally vulnerable, less vulnerable, and resilient. For a case study of the Jinju, farmlands of $138.6km^2$, about 18% of the whole area of Jinju, were classified as vulnerable to inundation, and about $6.6km^2$ of farmlands with elevation of below 19 m at sea water level, slope of below 3.5 degrees, and within 115 m distance from water body were exposed to extremely vulnerable to inundation. Comparatively Geumsan-myeon and Sabong-myeon were revealed as the most vulnerable to farmland inundation in the Jinju.
