This experiment was carried out as one of the basic studies to improve the acid resistance of concrete and it was conducted to investigate some relations among physical properties such as basorption, ratio of water to cement, compressive strength, density and ratio of mix to weight losses of mortar when exposed to 0.1 N solution of hydrochrolic acid. The results obtained from the limited data secured so far in this experiment are summarized as follows: 1. The specimens used in the experiment were made of 5 cubic centimeters of mortar having such various ratios of mix by weight as 1 : 1, 1 : 3, 1 : 5, 1 : 7, 1 : 10. 2. Physical tests included compressive strengths at 7 days, 28 days, 3 months, and 6 month, and 5 hour boiling absorption test. 3. In acid test, every specimen was immersed into 0.1 N solution of hydrochrolic acid. The specimens exposed to the acid solution were weighed to determine the weight losses of the acid-corroded at one week interval for 7 weeks exposure, and the old acid solutions were also changed to fresh one when weighed the weight losses by acid attack at one week interval. 4. The correlative relations were found among physical properties and they are expressed by certain formulas as follows; i) Relation between ratio of mix and absorption Y = 1.036x + 13.53 where Y: absorption(%) X: ratio of mix ii) Relation between ratio of mix and ratio of water-cement Y = 0.204x + 0.214 where Y: ratio of water-cement. X: ratio of mix iii) Relation between ratio of water-cement and absorption Y = 5.01x + 12.53 where Y: absorption(%). X: ratio of water-cement iv) Relation between density and absorption Y = 50.6 - 0.0176X where Y: absorption(%). X: density($kg/m^3$) v) Relation between density and ratio of water cement Y = 7.2183 - 0.0033X where Y: ratio of water-cement . X: density($kg/m^3$) 5. After completing the acid exposure test the specimens were corroded and , the per cent ranges of weight losses varies from a minimum of 20.4 per cent at a 1 : 1 mix to a maximum of 92.0 per cent at a 1:10 mix 6. The correlative relations of physical properties of mortar to weight losses by acid attak were found and they are also expressed by certain formulas as follows: i) Relation between weight losses and ratio of mix Y = 8.59X + 8.63 where Y: weight losses(%), X: ratio of mix ii) Relation between wieght losses and absorption Y = 0.121x + 12.43 where Y: absorption(%). X: weight losses(%) iii) Relation between weight losses and ratio of w/c Y = 0.0226X + 0.07 where Y: ratio of w/c X: weight losses(%) iv) Relation between weight losses and compressive strength LogY = 3.6097 - 0.05058X + 0.00022$X^2$ where Y: compressive strength ($kg/cm^3$) X: weight losses(%) v) Relation between weight losses and density Y = 2153.1 - 6.62X where Y: density($kg/m^3$) X: weigh losses(%) 7. In order to make better acid resistant mortar, it could be concluded that a 1 : 3 mix or richer mixes, adequate mixing water to minnimize the ratio of water-cement considering the workability, 16 per cent or less absorption by 5 hour boiling water, 1,800 kilogram per cubic meter or denser density by absolute weight base and 200 kilogram per square meter or compressive strength at 20 day, etc are required so as to obtain acid-resistant mortar. In addition to the above, it might be recommonded to select the fine aggregate and to use better equipments such as a mechanical vibrator, a mechanical mixer etc. in concrete manufacturing works.

At present, the antiwashout underwater concretes are used as popular construction materials in European countries, the United States and Japan. The water-soluble polymers in the antiwashout underwater concretes provide excellent segregation or washout resistance, self-compaction and self-leveling property to the concretes. The purpose of this study is to recommend to optimum mix proportions of antiwashout underwater concretes according to compressive strength of 300kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$ to 500kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$. The antiwashout underwater concretes are prepared with various unit cement content, unit water content, sand-aggregate ratio, unit antiwashout agent and superplasticizer content. And they are tested for flowability, and compressive strength. From the test results, it is possible to recommend the optimum mix proportions of antiwashout underwater concretes according to compressive strengths within the range of 300kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$ to 500kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$.

Prepacked concrete has recently been used in the special constructions fields such as underwater concrete work, heavy-weight concrete work, underground structure work, partial repair works for damaged reinforced concrete structures. and polymer-modified mortars have been employed as grouting mortars for the prepacked concrete. The purpose of this study is to recommend the optimum mix design of polymer-modified grouting mortars for prepacked concrete. Polymer-modified mortars using SBR and EVA emulsions as admixture of grouting mortars for prepacked concrete are prepared with various mix proportions such as sand-binder ratio, fly ash replacement ratio, polymer-binder ratio. and tested for flowability, viscosity of grouting mortars, bleeding ratio, expansion ratio, flexural and compressive strengths of grouting mortars and compressive and tensile strengths of prepacked concretes. From the test results, it is apparent that polymer-modified mortars can be produced as grouting mortars when proper mix design is chosen. We can design the mix proportions of high strength mortars for prepacked concrete according to the control of mix design factors such as type of polymer, polymer-binder ratio, sand-binder ratio and fly ash replacement ratio. Water-binder ratio of plain mortars for a constant flowability value are in the ranges of 43% to 50%. SBR-modified mortar has a little water-binder ratios compared to those of plain mortar, however, EVA-modified mortar needs a high water-binder ratio due to a high viscosity of polymer dispersion. The expansion and bleeding ratios of grouting mortars are also controlled in the proper value ranges. Polymer-modified grouting mortars have good flexural. compressive and tensile strengths, are not affected with various properties with increasing fly ash replacement to cement and binder-sand ratio. In this study, SBR-modified grouting mortar with a polymer-binder ratio of 10% or less, a fly ash replacement of 10% to cement and a sand-binder ratio of 1.5 is recommended as a grouting mortar for prepacked concrete.
As the weight of trucks increases, the need for concrete pavement also increases. Therefore, the addition of fly-ash may improve the properties of pavement concrete as well as recycle fly-ash. A full factorial experiment was performed using the primary variables, such as water-cement ratio, fly-ash substitution ratio, and maximum size of coarse aggregate, as a preliminary study for optimum mixture design for pavement concrete. The results of preliminary study indicates that the addition of fly-ash is the most important factor determining concrete strength, followed by the maximum size of coarse aggregate and water-cement ratio. It, also, shows the relative importance of fly-ash substitution ratio, compared to the water-cement ratio, and the interaction effects between the primary variables. Optimum mixture designs for pavement concrete incorporating fly-ash, that satisfied the target responses, were proposed in terms of fly-ash substitution ratio, water cement ratio and maximum size of coarse aggregate.
PURPOSES: As a part of our research into repair techniques for roads that have collapsed as a result of a natural disaster, this study set out to find the optimum mix proportion for gravels to be used to restore a damaged area. METHODS: This study considered flow and strength-development characteristics. The experimental variables were the W/C ratio, the usage of the admixture, the types of cement, and the quantity of fine aggregate over three different experimental stages. The compressive strength was measured at 12 hours, one day, three days, and seven days. RESULTS : The flow varied with the amount of fine aggregate and the use of a high-range water-reducing (HRWR) admixture. The compressive strength also varied with respect to the type of cement and the W/C ratios. The strength satisfied the expected requirement of 21 MPa after one day, provided the mix proportion was appropriate. CONCLUSIONS: A gravel-filling high-flow cement-based mortar exhibited strength and consistency with a W/C ratio in the range of 0.40 to 0.45, assuming the use of HRWR at 0.5 to 0.7% and a fine aggregate/cement ratio of 1.0 to 1.5.

The purpose of this study is investigating characteristics of the concrete containing Fly-ash according to different 4 mix design, that is, the first mix design is partial replace Fly-ash of cement, second is partial replace Fly-ash of cement and fine aggregate, third is partial replace Fly-ash of fine aggregate, fourth partial replacement of fine and coarse aggregate. For this purpose, selected test variables were water-binder ratio with two levels of 45%, 50%, and Fly-ash contents with four levels 0%, 10%, 20%, 30%, As the result of this study are as follow. 1) The result of mix design of a partial replacement of cement, the slump-flow value was appeared a promotive effect of viscosity. But in case of the over with Fly-ash 10% and the other mix design was not changed slump value. 2) The unit weight of the mixing rate with Fly-ash 0% was $1.875{\sim}1.884t/m^3$, the other mix design 10% over with Fly-ash was $1.846{\sim}1.615t/m^3$, the difference was appeared less about 15% than that. 3) In design, partial replace Fly-ash of fine aggregate, this compressive strength was appeared that the concrete age after 7 days was higher than in partial replacement of cement, therefore, the default of a concrete with Fly-ash, that is the earlier compressive strength was to lessen, was improved. 4) The thermal conductivity of the all mix design was $0.447{\sim}1.144kcal/mh^{\circ}C$, this value was as good as a lightweight aggregate concrete.
Recently, the mortar crack on floor is very serious in construction field, e.g. the crack due to plastic shrinkage and the crack due to drying shrinkage. To prevent this kind of crack, optimum mix proportions not only satisfying the required workability but also minimizing the unit water content were selected. And the expansion admixtures were used to compensate shrmkage of mortar. The water /cement ratio used in construction field is about 64% by the investigation. Even if the water /cement ratio of mortar is reduced, floor mortar is still able to have the required workability by the appropriate use of the fine aggregate with high fineness mo'dulus and superplastizer. The equations hetween mortar flow and water /cement ratio, sand /cement ratio, fineness modulus of fine aggregate were proposed in this study. And the proposed equation may provide available mix proportions of floor mortar.
Lightweight soils are very economical and environment friendly materials that are valuable in field without wasting construction materials, dredged soils and clay/ silty soils during construction. Recently, the research of lightweight soils mixed with recycled material (recycled tire powder, rice husks) have been investigated. In this study the mix design factors (i.e., weight of soil, water content, foaming agent and added water) were analyzed and optimized mix design was suggested using cement content for revealing strength. For the analysis the stress-strain behavior, strength with respect to time, and experimental strength for the component of recycled material were analyzed. Finally, target strength was determined to calculate reasonable and economical mix ratio and the optimized cement content was suggested.

Tailing Material (TM) and Fly Ash (FA) are obtained as waste products from the mining and thermal industries. Studies were carried out to explore the possibility of utilizing TM as a part replacement to fine aggregate and FA as a part replacement to cement, in concrete mixes. The effect of replacing fine aggregate by TM and cement by FA on the standard sized specimen for compressive strength, split tensile strength, and flexural strengths are evaluated in this study. The concrete mix of M40 grade was adopted with water cement ratio equal to 0.40. Concrete mix with 35% TM and 65% natural sand (TM35/S65) has shown superior performance in strength as against (TM0/S100, TM30/S70, TM40/S60, TM50/S50, and TM60/S40). For this composition, studies were performed to propose the optimal replacement of Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) by FA (Replacement levels studied were 20%, 30%, 40% and 50%). Replacement level of 20% OPC by FA, has shown about 0-5% more compressive strength as against the control mix, for both 28 day and 56 days of water curing. Interestingly results of split tensile and flexural strengths for 20% OPC replaced by FA, have shown strengths equal to that of no replacement (control mix).
This study investigates experimentally into the design factors and quality variations having an effect on the properties of the combined high flowing concrete to be poured in the slurry wall of Inchon LNG in-ground receiving terminal. Especially, high belite cement and lime stone powder as cementitious materials and viscosity agent in order to improve self-compaction and hydration heat are used in this study. Water-cement ratio(W/C), fine aggregate volume ratio(Sr) and coarse aggregate volume ratio(Gv) as design factors of the combined high flowing concrete are applied to determine the optimum mix design proportion. Also quality variations for sensitivity test are selected items as followings. (1)Surface moisture(5cases) and (2)Fineness modulus of fine aggregate(5cases), (3)Concrete temperature(3cases), (4)Specific surface(3cases) and particle size of lime stone powder. As experimental results, water-cement ratio, fine and coarse aggregate volume ratio are shown as the optimum range 51%, 43% and 53% separately considering site condition of slurry wall. Also quality factors by sensitivity test should be controlled in the following ranges. (1) Surface moisture :to.67% and (2)Fineness modulus 2.6$\pm$0.2 of fine aggregate, (3)Concrete temperature l0-20t, (4) Specific surface 6,000$\textrm{cm}^2$/g and particle size 9.7$\pm$1.0${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ of lime stone powder. Based on the results of this study, the optimum mix design proportion of the combined high flowing concrete are selected and poured successfully in the slurry wall of LNG in-ground tank.
