In this article, we investigated the various influencing factors that degraded the lifetime of suspension insulators in 154 kV transmission lines, and showed the possible solutions to avoid such breakdowns. With respect to achieve safety, reliability and aesthetical considerations, the characteristics of transmission and distribution network power cables should be improved. Suspension insulators are particularly important to study, as they have developed to be the main component of transmission lines due to their ability to withstand the electrical conductivity of high-voltage power transmission. Suspension insulators are mostly made from glass, rubber and ceramic material due to their high resistivity. In Korea, porcelain suspension insulators are typically used in the transmission line system, as they are cheaper and more flexible compared to other types of insulators. This is effective from preventing very high and steep lightening impulse voltages from causing the breakdown of suspension insulators used in power lines. Other influential factors affect the lifetime of suspension insulators that we studied include temperature, water moisture, contamination, mechanical vibration and electrical stress.
Multileaf collimator (MLC) is now rapidly replacing the lead ahoy block to shape the radiation treatment field. In addition to its defect of rectangular field shaping and increased penumbra width, it has another possible problem, and that is of radiation transmission between leaves, which needs to be maintained at as low a level as is permissible. The authors measured and analyzed the inter-leaf and cross-leaf transmissions of MLC by Varian Associates Inc, before its clinical application. The inter-leaf and cross-leaf transmissions were calculated by comparing the measured point doses in the polystyrene phantom in the open field and in a total closure of MLC. The beam profile of the inter-leaf and cross-leaf transmissions were depicted by using a water phantom. A photon beam of 6 MV was used in the measurement. The inter-leaf transmission was 1.63∼1.67%, indicating that the shielding effect of MLC is excellent. However, the cross-leaf transmission in the central area was 18.4∼18.7% and this is well over the clinically acceptable limitation of 5%. The beam profile of cross-leaf transmission displayed 80∼90% transmission near the field edge, so that the cross-leaf transmission was 14∼17% in this area. The multileaf collimator has an excellent shi디ding effect and the inter-leaf transmission is negligible so that it can be used in clinic as a good replacement of the conventional lead alloy block. However, care must be taken to avoid the cross-leaf transmission in the radiation field.
This study classifies the fire suppression measures implemented by wooden temples into four types according to availability of the pump trucks (water tanks) at the fire sites. And this study outlines the strategies and methods based on each type of fire suppression measure. The results show that the fire suppression strategy applied in general buildings is also employed in temples where pump trucks (water tanks) and fire-fighting water are available. For temples where trucks and water are not available, the helicopter, water bag, fire suppression strategy focused on water supply link, automatic transmission system of a fire engine's level by using radio communication network, and water bladder are used. In addition, general four-wheel-drive vehicles equipped with fire fighting tools such as motor pump, hose, nozzle, and water bladder should be deployed in fire stations around the temples. A fire suppression strategy using A-type ladders is also required.
Most water tanks operating have been managed by people's five senses. A human material resource have been wasted awfully at this. In the present study, we suggest the wireless integrated system for managing water tank of reducing the wastage human resources and on-line real time managing efforts of water tanks. Water level sensor works the pump sending the data from water tank control to the wireless control on sensing water level. At this time, every kind data which happens in the water tank transmits the line transmission modem. Data to be received from the line transmission modem is stored at the database after we record the logs by each hour. We display the result to the web pages, after checking the pump motion, the pump error, the water level, the solar battery error, the chemicals, and the telephone line to the foundation data to be saved. Furthermore, this paper suggests empirical applications of the proposed wireless integrated system for managing water tank in order to verify its feasibility.
In Floating PV (Photovoltaic) systems, PV modules are installed on water by utilizing the surface of idle water such as a reservoir and multipurpose dam. A floating PV system, therefore, has the advantage of efficiency in national land use and improved energy yield owing to cooling effect compared to on-land PV systems. Owing to the limitation of installation environment for a floating PV system, the system, however, has the disadvantage of an increase in transmission distance of DC (Direct current) cables. A longer transmission distance of a DC cable results in greater power loss due to a voltage drop. This leads to a decline in economic feasibility for the floating PV system. In this paper, the economic analysis for 10 floating PV systems installed in a reservoir has been conducted in terms of a change in annual power sales according to the variation of transmission losses depending on the factors affecting the voltage drop, such as transmission distance, cross-section area of underwater cable, the presence of joint box, and PV capacity.
When sound waves propagate over long distances in shallow water, measured transmission loss is greater than predicted one using underwater acoustic model with the Rayleigh reflection model due to inhomogeneity of the bottom. Accordingly, the US Navy predicts sound wave propagation by applying the empirical formula-based High Frequency Bottom Loss (HFBL) model. In this study, the measurement and analysis of transmission loss was conducted using mid-frequency (2.3 kHz, 3 kHz) in the shallow water of the East Sea in summer. BELLHOP eigenray tracing output shows that only sound waves with lower grazing angle than the critical angle propagate long distances for several kilometers or more, and the difference between the predicted transmission loss based on the Rayleigh reflection model and the measured transmission loss tend to increase along the propagation range. By comparing the Rayleigh reflection model and the HFBL model at the high grazing angle region, the bottom province, the input value of the HFBL model, is estimated and BELLHOP transmission loss with HFBL model is compared to measured transmission loss. As a result, it agrees well with the measurements of transmission loss.

Recently, advances in ZnO based oxide semiconductor materials have accelerated the development of thin-film transistors (TFTs), which are the building blocks for active matrix flat-panel displays including liquid crystal displays (LCD) and organic light-emitting diodes (OLED). However, the electrical performances of oxide semiconductors are significantly affected by interactions with the ambient atmosphere. Jeong et al. reported that the channel of the IGZO-TFT is very sensitive to water vapor adsorption. Thus, water vapor passivation layers are necessary for long-term current stability in the operation of the oxide-based TFTs. In the present work, $Al_2O_3$ and $TiO_2$ thin films were deposited on poly ether sulfon (PES) and $SnO_x$-based TFTs by electron cyclotron resonance atomic layer deposition (ECR-ALD). And enhancing the WVTR (water vapor transmission rate) characteristics, barrier layer structure was modified to $Al_2O_3/TiO_2$ layered structure. For example, $Al_2O_3$, $TiO_2$ single layer, $Al_2O_3/TiO_2$ double layer and $Al_2O_3/TiO_2/Al_2O_3/TiO_2$ multilayer were studied for enhancement of water vapor barrier properties. After thin film water vapor barrier deposited on PES substrate and $SnO_x$-based TFT, thin film permeation characteristics were three orders of magnitude smaller than that without water vapor barrier layer of PES substrate, stability of $SnO_x$-based TFT devices were significantly improved. Therefore, the results indicate that $Al_2O_3/TiO_2$ water vapor barrier layers are highly proper for use as a passivation layer in $SnO_x$-based TFT devices.
Water-vapor permeation through metallic barriers deposited on polymer substrates has been an important technological issue because the performance of the barrier is critical to the reliability of flexible organic devices. For the development of long-lifetime flexible organic devices, two different sets of samples were designed and demonstrated from the viewpoint of the water-vapor transmission rate (WVTR). Aluminum (Al) and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) were chosen for the barrier layer and the polymer substrate, respectively. Two stacking structures, a single-layer (Al/PET) structure and a double-layer (Al/PET/Al) structure, were used for the WVTR measurement. For the single-layer structure, the WVTR decreases as the thickness of the barrier layer increases. Compared to the single-layer sample, the double-layer sample showed superior WVTR performance (by nearly three times) when the total thickness of the Al barrier was greater than 100 nm.
