  • When the fluid energy convert into kinetic energy due to water hammer, the propagation velocity of pressure wave appear. The propagation velocity of pressure wave(1050 m/s) of very fast could be damage to the pipeline system. If the occurrence of water hammer is due to down-pressure, the faster the air exhaust or supply device is needed. it is high Speed Air Valve. In this paper, Each 3.12, 3.13, 3.72, $3.74kg/cm^2$ pipeline pressure were setting, and then executed pressure rapid drop for obtaining a high Speed Air Valve Operating time and pressure change data. the result was that pipe line pressure stabilization time were each 0.98, 1, 1.22, 1.25 sec. In other words, that pressure drop experimental results pipe line pressure was equal to atmospheric pressure without negative pressure After about one second. The study result would be useful to pipe line system stability design because this data could be foresee pressure stabilization time.

  • Mine closure does often accompany the flooding of mine galleries due to ceasing a pumping operation. When a mine gallery is flooded, rocks around the gallery are fully saturated and the gallery is subject to a water pressure. The uniaxial unconfined compressive strength of a rock depends on its water content and decreases as the water content increases. A water pressure may originate the crack growth of a rock or the discontinuity growth of rock mass. Although the water in a gallery will give some support pressure inside the gallery, the degradation of rock mass properties caused by a water pressure will reduce the stability of the gallery. In this study, 2-dimensional discontinuous and 3-dimensional continuous numerical analyses have been conducted to evaluate an effect that a reduction of rock mass properties around the gallery induced by a water pressure has on the stability of mine gallery. The numerical analyses show that a reduction of rock mass properties caused by a water pressure increases displacements of rock mass around mine gallery. 2-dimensional model is found to give larger values of displacement than 3-dimensional model.

  • In this study, the optimum pump operation technique is suggested to decrease the damage rate of water distribution system. Pump operation system was developed to achieve the effective pump operation. Pressure sensors which can communicate with pumps are installed at the end of water distribution system. Pump operation system can control the pressure of water pump according to data sent from the pressure sensors. Therefore, water distribution system can reduce the pressure and maintain enough pressure which can supply the demand of water users. For proving effectiveness of new system, reliability model was introduced to compare the results of damage rates between the maintaining high pressure and selective pressure in water pump. Unsteady analysis was conducted with several scenarios. And the results were used to calculate the probability of pipe breakage. From the results, it was found that new pump operation system can reduce the energy usage and probability of pipe breakage by applying to pumps.

  • Objective of this study is to investigate the structural behavior of the concrete lining in water pressure tunnel. In many cases, the concrete lining of water pressure tunnel has not considered as a major structure comparing to the other structures, resulting in use of conservative analysis and design. For the detailed analysis of concrete lining of water pressure tunnel, factors such as rock pressure and water pressure have to be considered. In this study, analysis of concrete lining was performed by using beam element method, shell element method and solid element method. Analysis results showed that the tensile stress at crown of concrete lining is greatly affected by the stability of concrete lining and the tensile stress for the concrete lining has to be evaluated for the section where maximum moment is occurred.

  • This study was undertaken to elucidate effects of ingesting small or large amount of tap or iced water on circulation of normal healthy men with the purpose of furnishing basic data for nursing intervention of myocardial infarction patients. The subjects for this study were normal healthy men consisting of 30men and 30women in age from 22 to 30 years. One group consisting of 30men drank 240m1 tap water on day l and 240m1 iced water 24hours later. The other group drank 960m1 tap water on day 1 and 960m1 iced water 24hours later. Blood pressure and heart rate were taken in a sitting position before ingesting water, and immediately after ingesting it and at 2,5,10,15,30 minute intervals thereafter. Changes of heart rate, systolic and diastolic blood pressure after ingesting water were compared with those of preingestive period. The results obtained were as follows : 1. There were no significant changes in blood pressure and heart rater after ingesting small amount of water regardless of its temperature. 2. No significant decrease in blood pressure after ingesting large amount of tap water at all time peroids was noted. 3. A strongly significant interaction effect bet-ween temperature and volume was demonstrated, that is, there was a highly significant decrease in blood pressure and heart rate at all time periods after ingesting large amount of iced water.

  • Water discolouration and increased turbidity in the local water service distribution network occurred from hydraulic incidents such as drastic changes of flow and pressure at large consumer. Hydraulic incidents impose extra shear stresses on sediment layers in the network, leading to particle resuspension. Therefore, real time measuring instruments were installed for monitoring the variation of water flow, pressure, turbidity and particulates on a hydrant in front of the inlet point of large apartment complex. In this study, it is attempted to establish a more stable water supply plan and to reduce complaints from customers about water quality in a district metering area. To reduce red or black water, the water flow monitoring and control systems are desperately needed in the point of the larger consumers.

  • The effects of membrane fouling on the water permeability were examined using the hollow fiber microfiltration (HMF)membrane. A membrane module with a pore size of 0.1 micron was submerged in the permeation tank and water bath. The applied pressure was 12.4 kPa for direct solid-liquid separation of activated sludge. As the concentration of MLSS(880~2180mg/l) of the feed solution increased, the decreasing rates of the water flux increased and the membrane was clogged more rapidly. The water flux through the membrane did not increase effectively even with the increase in the applied pressure(40.0~93.3kPa). When the membrane was cleaned with water, the recovery rate of water flux were larger for lower applied pressure. The results indicated that the process of direct solid-liquid separation using HMF membrane was effective at lower pressure.

  • In this study, a ruture strength of epoxy resin film coated on the leaking spot in waterpipe line was determined, using water pressure, without interrupting water supply. This results could be used for the sealing of water leakage in large size waterpipe lines. An experimental equation {{{{P=Kt^m~ /R^n~ (m=2, n=3.5) }} was also obtained, where P is the rupture pressure, K is constant, t is the thickness and R is the radius of the resin film. From this results, the safe쇼 thickness of the film for a domestic use was calculated with various radii against the maximum pressure.

  • This study were performed to investigated the behavior of excessive pore water pressure with embankment of soft clay. The dissipation behavior of excessive pore water pressure in the improved and non-improved area was used to compare and alyze with lateral displacement , and to investigated the applicability of the methods for stability evaluatio of soft clay. The behavior of excess pore water pressure could be used to the fundamental data for stability evaluation, and the evaluation of the stability of embankment was recommended to use the indlination of curve rather than critical line.

  • Under the attack of storm waves, there are many destructions of coastal structures in the forms of sinking and sliding. There types of destructions will be in close relation to the dynamic behavior of sand bed around the structures. Form this point of view, in this pear, we investigate the characteristics of the pore water pressure and effective stresses in the highly saturated sand bed under oscillating water pressure theoretically. The results indicate that the oscillating water pressure induce the notable drop of strength of and bed around the structure under certain condition.
