Sliced and whole root of rehmannia were dehydrated in a laboratory dryer at 40, 60, 80, and $100^{\circ}C$ to evaluate the kinetic parameters for dehydration of rehmannia. The drying curves of both samples were characterized by a falling-rate drying period only. Sliced rehmannia dried 1.1 to 3.1 times faster than whole root of rehmannia depending on drying temperature. Equilibrium moisture content (EMC) of rehmannia samples at the drying temperature tested were 0.069-0.078 g water/g dry solid, which was coincided with the monolayer moisture content (0.06 and 0.07 g water/g dry solid) evaluated from desorption isotherms using GAB (Guggenheim-Anderson-de Boer) model. A logarithmic model for thin layer drying was applied to evaluate the drying time to reach EMC ($t_{EMC}$) and drying constant (k). The effect of temperature on $1/t_{EMC}$ and k was described by the Arrhenius model with activation energy values of 32.56 and 47.14 kJ/mol determined using the former parameter, and 34.27 and 38.26 kJ/mol determined using the latter parameter for sliced and whole root of rehmannia, respectively.

Optimum conditions for the deposition of N-docosylquinolium-TCNQ ultrathin organic films using the Langmuir-Blodgett etchnique and the molecular orientation and alignment of the LB films were studied. The $\pi$-A isotherm of the N-docosylquinolium-TCNQ was measured at the air-water interface varying with the subphase temperature, subphase pH, compressing speed and amounts of solutions for spreading. The LB film was deposited under the surface pressure of 30mN.m and 45mN/m and other deposition conditions. The molecular orientation and alignment of the LB films were studied by the polarization absorption technique. The $\pi$-A isotherm showed that the stable N-docosylquinolium -TCNQ monolayer was formed on the water surface at the condition of 25$^{\circ}C$,pH 5.6, molecular density of 2.1${\times}$10S014T~2.6${\times}$10S014T/cmS02T. The LB film was deposited under the surface pressure of 45mN/m had better packing density, orientation and alignment than the film of 30mN/m.

We have used a novel liquid surface forces apparatus to determine the variation of disjoining pressure with film thickness for dodecane-water-dodecane emulsion films. The LSFA allows measurement of film thicknesses in the range 5-100 nm and disjoining pressure from 0-1500 Pa. Disjoining pressure isotherms are given for films stabilised by the nonionic surfactnat n-dodecyl pentaoxyethylene glycol ether$(C_{12}E_5)$ and n-decyl-$\beta$-D-glucopyranoside($C_{10}- $\beta$-Glu)$ and the anionic surfactant sodium bis(2-ethylhexyl) sulphosuccinate(AOT) in the presense of added electrolyte. For $C_{12}E_5$ and AOT, the emulsion films are indefinitely stable even for the highest concentration of NaCl tested (136.7 Nm) whereas the $C_{10}-{eta}-Glu$ film shows coalescence at this salt concentration. For film thicknesses greater than approximately 20 nm with all three surfactants, the disjoining pressure isotherms are reasonably well described in terms of electrostatic and van der Waals, forces. For the nonionic surfactant emulsion films, the charge properties of the monolayers are qualitatively similar to those seen for foam films. For AOT emulsion films, the monolayer surface potentials estimated by fitting the isotherms are similar to the values of the zeta potential measured for AOT stabilised emulsion droplets. For thin emulsion films certain systems showed isotherms which suggested the presence of an additional repulsive force with a range of approximately 20 nm.
The characteristics of stearic acid and PDA (pentacosaDiyonicAcid) LB films were studied using the XRD spectra for regularity of layers and ellipsometer for the total thickness of multilayer films. From the experiments of varying the PH and temperature, it was found that the stability of monolayer on the water subphase was very sensitive to its PH and temperature. The optimum condition of PH for the stable stearic acid LB film was 6$\sim$6.5. The PDA LB films were stable at the lower temperature than room temperature: we obtained very uniform PDA LB films at 12$^{\circ}C$.

We fabricated multi-scale such as macro-, micro-, and multi-scale wrinkles by using repetitive volume dividing (RVD) method and thermal curing process. Also wrinkle surface was modified with coating of a self-assembled monolayer (SAM). We measured the contact angle of each wrinkled surface, and observed the behavior of droplets on sloping surface. Through experimental study, we found out that the contact angle was much higher in case of multi-scale and SAM coated wrinkles. And micro-scale wrinkle showed a high contact angle comparing with that of macro-scale wrinkle. Dynamic behaviors of a water droplet like sliding velocity on diverse wrinkled surfaces were dependent on their static contact angles. These results showed that hydro-dynamic characteristics were changed depending on the wrinkle structure and the material forming the wrinkle. These dynamic characteristics can be utilized in bio-chip, microfluidics, and many others in order to control easily chemical reactivity.

Superhydrophobic WOx nanowire (NW) arrays were fabricated using a thermal evaporation and surface chemistry modification methods by self-assembled monolayer (SAM). As-prepared non-wetting WOx NWs surface shows water contact angle of $163.2^{\circ}$ and has reliable stability in underwater conditions. Hence the superhydrophobic WOx NWs surface exhibits silvery surface by total reflection of water layer and air interlayer. The stability analysus of underwater superhydrophobicity of WOx NWs arrays was conducted by changing hydrostatic pressure and surface energy of WOx NWs arrays. The stability of superhydrophobicity in underwater conditions decreased exponentially as hydrostatic pressure applied to the substrates increased3. In addition, as surface energy decreased, the underwater stability of superhydrophobic surface increased sharply. Specifically, sueprhydrophobic stability increased exponentially as surface energy of WOx NWs arrays was decreased. Based on these results, the models for explaining tendencies of superhydrophobic stability underwater resulting from hydrostatic pressure and surface energy were designed. The combination of fugacity and Laplace pressure explained this exponential decay of stability according to hydrostatic pressure and surface energy. This study on fabrication and modeling of underwater stability of superhydrophobic W18O49 NW arrays will help in designing highly stable superhydrophobic surfaces and broadening fields of superhydrophobic applications even submerged underwater.
Moisture sorption characteristics of edible composite films were determined and compared against moisture barrier properties. Edible composite films were Z1 (zein film with polyethylene glycol(PEG) and glycerol), Z2 (zein film with oleic acid), ZA1 (zein-coated high amylose corn starch film with PEG and glycerol), and ZA2 (zein-coated high amylose corn starch film with oleic acid). Z2 film showed the lowest equilibrium moisture content (EMC), monolayer value ($W_m$), water vapor permeability (WVP), and water solubility (WS). Surface structure of Z2 was relatively denser and finer than that of other edible films. GAB $W_m$ and C values decreased, while K values increased with increasing temperature. Correlation coefficients of WS:EMC and WVP:EMC at Aw 0.75 were higher than those of WS: $W_m$ and WVP: $W_m$, respectively. EMC values at Aw 0.75 appeared useful for evaluating or predicting moisture barrier properties of edible films.

The problem of water contamination by long-living cesium and strontium radionuclides is an urgent environmental issue. The development of facile and efficient technologies based on nanostructured adsorbents is a perspective for selective radionuclides removal. In this regard, current work aimed to obtain the nanostructured magnetic zeolite composites with high adsorption performance to cesium and strontium ions. The optimal conditions of hydrothermal synthesis were established based on XRD, SEM-EDX, N2 adsorption-desorption, VSM, and batch adsorption experiment data. The role of chemical composition, textural characteristics, and surface morphology was demonstrated. The monolayer ionexchange mechanism was proposed based on adsorption isotherm modeling. The highest Langmuir adsorption capacity of 229.6 and 105.1 mg/g towards cesium and strontium ions was reached for composite obtained at 90 ℃ hydrothermal treatment. It was shown that magnetic characteristics of zeolite composites allowing to separate spent adsorbents by a magnet from aqueous solutions.
Transition metal oxides formed by a single or heterogeneous combination of transition metal ions and oxygen ions have various types of crystal structures, which can be classified as layered structures and non-layered structures. With non-layered structures, it is difficult to realize a two-dimensional structure using conventional synthesis methods. In this study, we report the synthesis of cobalt oxide into wafer-scale nanosheets using a surfactant-assisted method. A monolayer of ionized surfactant at the water-air interface acts as a flexible template for direct cobalt oxide crystallization below. The nanosheets synthesized on the water surface can be easily transferred to an arbitrary substrate. In addition, the synthesizing morphological and crystal structures of the nanosheets were analyzed according to the reaction temperatures. The electrochemical properties of the synthesized nanosheets were also measured at each temperature. The nanosheets synthesized at 70 ℃ exhibited higher catalytic properties for the oxygen evolution reaction than those synthesized at other temperatures. This work suggests the possibility of changing material performance by adjusting synthesis temperature when synthesizing 2D nanomaterials using a wide range of functional oxides, resulting in improved physical properties.
