In this study, we determined distribution status of organonitrogen pesticides such as trifluralin, atrazine, metribuzin, alachlor, malathion, nitrofen, permethrin, cypermethrin, fenvalerate, and parathion accumulated in the fresh water fishes and amphibians. We collected those samples at 31 sites from the basin of major rivers, and separated the muscular tissue as a final sample for analysis. In the pretreatment process, lipid was eliminated by using acetonitrile and n-hexane, and pesticides were reextracted with dichloromethane. The extract was dehydrated and concentrated, and then cleaned it up by passing the Florisil column, and pesticide content was finally determined by using a GC-MS system after introducing isotope labelled references. The accumulation level was observed in the range of $0.17{\sim}6.8{\mu}g/kg$ in amphibians and $0.26{\sim}16{\mu}g/kg$ in fishes including cypermethrin as $16{\mu}g/kg$.
The numerical simulations were performed to analyze the advection-diffusion processes of dredging-induced turbidity plume using RMA2 and RMA4 models in Bunam reservoir, Seosan, Chungnam. Field survey was also performed to measure the turbidity using the multi water quality monitoring system (YSI6600EDS). In the field survey, the vertical and horizontal distributions of the turbidity were measured during the dredging operation in Bunam reservoir. RMA2 model was used to simulate the velocity distributions in both the whole domain and the 2nd part of Bunam reservoir. RMA4 model was also used to simulate the concentration distribution in only the 2nd part of Bunam reservoir, where the dredging work were conducted. The comparison of the simulation results with the field data for the advection-diffusion of the turbidity plume using the concentration ratio concepts shows that the numerical model can be applied to analyze the environmental impact of dredging works.
Objectives The purpose of this study is to investigate the clinical effect of Kami-chungsimyeunjatang on atopic dermatitis and to survey the general characteristics in children with atopic dermatitis. Methods 30 patients suffering from atopic dermatitis were treated with water extract of Kami-chungsimyeunjatang and the clinical evaluation were made by SCORAD index system before and after treatment. We also investigated some characteristics of improvements by using questionnaire. Results 1. Among 30 patients diagnosed as atopic dermatitis, 18 of the people were male(60%) and 12 of the people were female(40%). 2. Among 30 patients diagnosed as atopic dermatitis, 24 of them have family history of allergic disease(80%) and 18 of them have past history of allergic disease(60%). 3. The distribution of nursing method, 13 of them (44%) had powdered milk, 10(33%) of them had both breast milk and powdered milk, 7 of them (23%) had only breast milk. 4. 20 patients(67%) who have atopic dermatitis were less than 1 year old and 6 of them (20%) were between 1 or 2 years old. The initial lesion of 22(74%) of the patients were face and neck. 5. 9 patients(30%) of them answered that the symptoms are getting worse especially during the winter while 8 patients(25%)of them said summer. 6. The mean period of treatment value was $4.6{\pm}2.20$ months. 7. After treatment, there was statistically significant decrease(p<0.05) of extent, intensity, subjective symptoms and total SCORAD index score(p=0.001). 8. After treatment, 28(93%) of the patients were improved. Conclusions Considering the above results, we speculate that Kami-chungsimyeunjatang is effective in the treatment of atopic dermatitis, and further studies are needed with more clinical cases of hematological evaluation.

The spatio-temporal variations of the dissolved methane concentration were investigated and the methane budget was estimated in the Nakdong Estuary in January, September, and November of 2014. Dissolved methane showed seasonal variation (21~874 nM) with high concentration in summer due to enhanced temperature and fresh water discharge. Decreasing trends of dissolved methane from the river to the estuary were consistent in all seasons showing the main source of the estuarine methane is river discharge. However, the decreasing trends were modified seasonally due to the local sources such as organic-rich sediments in intertidal zone or near the estuarine barrage. Dissolved methane concentration in the Nakdong Estuary was high, compared to other estuaries probably due to the well developed wetland in Nakdong-river system and stagnation effect from barrages and dams. Dominant sink for the Nakdong estuarine methane was outflux into the atmosphere. Relatively long residence time (produced by barrier island and estuarine dam) in the estuary might provide the enough time for the outgassing.
Methanol fuel cells having advantages of relatively favorable reaction kinetics and higher energy density have attracted increasing interests as best alternative to hydrogen fuel cell because of H2 production, storage and distribution issues. While there have been extensive research works on developing key components such as electrocatalysts as well as their physicochemical properties in practical formic acid fuel cells, there have also been urgent requests for investigating which fuel sources will be more suitable for direct liquid fuel cells in future. In this mini-review, we highlight the overall interest and outlook of formic acid fuel cells in terms of electrocatalysts, fuel supply and crossover, water management, fuel cell efficiency and system integration in comparison with methanol fuel cells.
The mechanical and thermal properties of solutions of acorn starch were investigated, to determine the effect of sucrose on the retrogradation. The contents of moisture and amylose of purified acorn starch was 9.35, 27% respectively. From the moecular weight distribution, Mw and Mn of acorn starch were 1,220,432 and 137,201 relatively and the polydispersity of acorn starch was 8.8952. The creep compliance of acorn starch with and without sucrose were decreased with increasing sucrose concentration in the short term. The temperatures of DSC curve of 15% acorn starch solution containg sucrose shifted slightly to higher temperatures with increasing sucrose content. The enthalpy change associated with the gelatinization was increased with increasing sucrose content. After 7 days storage, the creep compliance of acorn starch gel with sucrose were shown higher than acorn starch gel. Regelatinization enthalpy of acorn starch/sucrose/water system was decreased with increasing sucrose content and increased with storage time. In addition, the characteristic temperatures such as onset temperature, peak temperature and conclusion temperature was increased by sucrose addition. Retrogradation ratio decreased with increasing sucrose content, thus sucrose inhibit retrogradation in the long term. Sucrose acts as an antistaling reagents and retatards the retrogradation.

The complexation and physical characteristics of egg phosphatidylcholine (PC) liposome containing amphotericin B(AmB) were investigated through circular dichrosim(CD) spectra, the size distribution, the turbidity change, and the calcein release. CD spectra of AmB-containing egg PC mxture exhibited a positive peak around 330 nm indicative of complexation of AmB and four negative peaks. The positive peak increased up to $2.2{\;}millidegree/{\mu}g$ AmB as AmB contents increased up to 12% (w/w), suggesting that AmB-phospholipid complexation was promoted by the antibiotics. The effective diameter of liposomesa by dynamic light scattering decreased from 450 nm to 220 nm as the amount of AmB in liposomes increased from o to 30% (w/w). The complexation may be responsible for the reduction in size. On the other hand, at around 1 mN deoxycholate (DOC), the reltive turbidities of 5 and 10% (w/w) AmB-containing liposome suspension were less than 1 probably due to the soblubilization of the complex, while those of pure PC liposome suspension were larger than 1 at the same concentration. Deoxycholate-induced release of liposomes, indicating the intercalation of the drug into the bilayers. Therefore, it is concluded that in AmB/eggPC/water system, AmB-phospholipid complexcoexists with AmB-containing liposomes.
The microencapsulation of nifedipine (NF) with 4 wt% of poly(${\varepsilon}-caprolactone$) (PCL)/polyvinylpyrollidone (PVP) or PCL/polyethylene glycol (PEG) was carried out by solvent evaporation method in oil in water emulsion system to investigate the effect of PVP and PEG addition on drug release behavior of the microcapsules. The PVA (emulsifier) concentration of 1.0 wt% was chosen for the formation of PCL capsule having an average size of $154{\pm}25{\mu}m$ due to nearly spherical shape with a narrow size distribution. As PCL/PVP and PCL/PEG ratios were raised from 10/0 to 6/4, the capsule size increased gradually from $154{\pm}25{\mu}m$ to $236{\pm}32{\mu}m$ and $248{\pm}56{\mu}m$, respectively. The drug release rate of PCL/PVP and PCL/PEG capsules increased dramatically from 0 to 4 h at the beginning and then reached the plateau region from 20 h. As the concentration of PVP or PEG increased, the amount of drug release increased, suggesting that the larger capsule size was attributed to the higher drug content. However, the drug release behavior remained almost constant. The PCL capsules exhibited no evidence of causing cell lysis or toxicity regardless of NF loading, implying that the microcapsules are clinically suitable for use as drug delivery systems.
Long span bridges such as steel cable stayed and suspension bridges are usually more flexible than short to medium span bridges and expected to have large deformations. Deflections due to live load for long span bridges are important since it controls the overall heights of the bridge for securing the clearance under the bridge and serviceability for securing the comfort of passengers or pedestrians. In case of sea-crossing bridges, the clearance of bridges is determined considering the height of the ship master from the surface of the water, the trim of the ship, the psychological free space, the tide height, and live load deflection. In the design of bridges, live load deflection is limited to a certain value to minimize the vibrations. However, there are not much studies that consider the live load deflection and its effects for long span bridges. The purpose of this study is to investigate the suitability of live load deflection limit and its actual effects on serviceability of bridges for steel cable-stayed and suspension bridges. Analytical study is performed to calculate the natural frequencies and deflections by design live load. Results are compared with various design limits and related studies by Barker et al. (2011) and Saadeghvaziri et al. (2012). Two long span bridges are selected for the case study, Yi Sun-Sin grand bridge (suspension bridge, main span length = 1545 m) and Young-Hung grand bridge (cable stayed bridge, main span length = 240 m). Long-term measured deflection data by GNSS system are collected from Yi Sun-Sin grand bridge and compared with the theoretical values. Probability of exceedance against various deflection limits are calculated from probability distribution of 10-min maximum deflection. The results of the study on the limitation of live load deflection are expected to be useful reference for the design, the proper planning and deflection review of the long span bridges around the world.

Morphology and grain size distribution of coastal dunes should be well documented because they are critical to dune's buffering capacity and resilience against storm surges. The nationwide coastal dune survey produced the dataset, including beach-dune topographic profiles and grain size parameters for frontal beaches, foredunes, and inland dunes. This research investigated the dataset to describe geomorphic and textural properties of coastal dunes: foredune slopes, dune heights above approximately highest high water, mean size, and sorting, together with associated variables of coastal setting that influence coastal dunes. It also explores the possibility of a dune type scheme based on gran size trends. The results are as follows. First, the coast in which dunes are developed is the primary control on foredune morphology and sediment texture. Coastal dunes on the east coast were developed more alongshore rather than inland, with gentler slopes on the higher ground and out of coarser sand. The shore aspect contributes to this pattern because the east coast cannot benefit from prevailing northwesterly. Second, grain size trends from beaches through foredunes to inland dunes were little identified. Third, 12 dune types were identified from 69 dunes, showing the indicative capability for the status of beaches and dunes. We confirmed that the dataset could increase our understanding of the overall characteristics of coastal dune morphology and texture, though there is something to be improved, for example, establishing the refined and comprehensive field survey protocol.
